2 Workshop Objectives Help better prepare anticipated graduates for Commencement 2012 by providing resources and information so that they have a successful and informed CSUF graduation experience.

8 VIDEO ORIENTATION

9 Commencement Video-MANDATORY The commencement video is a short 5 minute video that all graduates must view in order to receive Commencement tickets. The video provides an overview of commencement festivities and can be watched from any computer by visiting: Each graduate planning to attend commencement ceremonies must view the orientation video, answer the questions, and print out the confirmation page before picking up guest tickets. Tickets will not be released to the graduate until the system has received notification that he/she has completed this requirement. Each Graduate MUST have his/her TitanCard in order to pick up tickets. If you have lost or misplaced your TitanCard, you will need to pick up your tickets at the TitanCard Office located on the first floor of the Pollak Library. Colleges of Education, Engineering & Computer Science, Mihaylo College of Business and Economics, and Natural Sciences and Mathematics graduates will be required to view the video when they print out electronic tickets. Since it is part of the process of printing out tickets, these graduates do not need to view the video until that time.

11 GradFest GradFest is a one-stop graduation shopping experience that provides students with the opportunity to take care of all their graduation needs including: Purchase cap and gown Pick up Commencement 2012 tickets / name cards / parking permits Arrange photography appointments Order commencement announcements Purchase a class ring Join the CSUF Alumni Association Traditionally, the busiest hours during GradFest are 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. There will be an Express Lane at the main entrance of the GradFest Tent for students who ONLY need to pick up commencement tickets, name cards and parking permits.

14 Commencement Ticket Overview COMMENCEMENT TICKET INFORMATION Tickets are not required for the 8:00 a.m. university commencement ceremony. Tickets are required for all college graduations. For most graduations, each graduate will receive eight free tickets for their guests. *Children over 2 years of age require a ticket at commencement. Graduates are guaranteed tickets through Friday, April 27. TitanCard required to pick up tickets. No TitanCard? Pick up your tickets at the TitanCard (first floor of the Pollak Library) Watch mandatory commencement video. Visit the commencement website for details regarding extra ticket distribution at the TitanCard Office from May 2-4, Visit the CSUF Graduation Facebook Group to advertise the availability of and/or need for extra tickets.

15 Electronic Ticketing Distribution FOUR COLLEGES ONLY: Graduates from the College of Engineering & Computer Science, the College of Education, the Mihaylo College of Business and Economics, and the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics will only be able to get their tickets electronically this year. Link available on commencement website after 4/2/2011 Graduates may print out their tickets between April 2-27, 2012 after they have viewed the Graduate with Titan Pride mandatory orientation video. After April 27, tickets will no longer be available, except for an extra ticket distribution from May 2-4 for venues that have not completely filled and can accommodate more guests. Visit the commencement website for details regarding the issuance of extra electronic tickets from May 2-4, Warning: Each ticket will have its own unique scanning pattern. Once a ticket has been scanned, it is no longer usable. Duplicating tickets will only mean that some guests will be turned away from commencement venues because their tickets are not valid.

HOW TO PICK UP TICKETS: 1) Gradfest on April 3-5, 2) April 2-April 27 at the TSU Information Desk; and 3) TitanCard Office. After April 27, tickets will no longer be available, except for an extra ticket distribution from May 2-4 for venues that have not completely filled and can accommodate more guests. 19 Commencement Parking/Permit Graduates will be given 2 commencement parking permits. * Graduates in the four colleges using electronic tickets can pick up two commencement parking permits at GradFest (April 3-5) or at the TitanCard Office located on the first floor of Pollak Library (April 2-27). *There is not a separate location for graduates to park. Graduates are encouraged to carpool with their guests using the 2 parking permits. Semester parking permits will not be valid during commencement. On-campus parking is restricted to carpools of 3 or more people. Non-carpools and those without a permits will be directed to nearby off-campus parking including Troy High School, Western College of Law & Hope International University. Disabled parking in Lot A with DMV placard/dp plate.

21 Commencement Ceremonies Cal State Fullerton s commencement exercises consist of two ceremonies: the University Commencement Ceremony and the College Graduation Ceremony. They are both formal events. 1. The University Commencement Ceremony will begin at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday and 8:00 a.m. on Sunday. Graduates should arrive no later than 7:00 a.m. and line up at the track North of the Titan Gymnasium. This ceremony should last approximately an hour and a half. The University Commencement Ceremony will take place on the lawn North of the Titan Gym. The University Commencement Ceremony involves the President of the university and his cabinet, well-known keynote speakers and the conferring of degrees by Interim President Hagan. 2. College Graduation Ceremonies begin about 9:30 a.m. Graduation date, procession time, and location are organized based on your college. To find the date and location of your graduation ceremony, visit The College Graduation Ceremony recognizes each graduate and calls them to the stage to receive Certificates of Participation in the 2012 Commencement Ceremonies.

22 Commencement Ceremonies, continued Commencement 2012 Keynote Speakers - Saturday, May 19: John Berry - Sunday, May 20: TBD College Graduation Ceremony Information A Graduate Name Card will be distributed with the guest tickets and parking permits at the ticket distribution sites in April. The card should be completed and brought to the college graduations. Please print all information legibly and phonetically if needed. Once on the platform at the college ceremony, graduates will hand this card to the reader for their names to be announced. Certain colleges and departments host receptions following the college graduation ceremonies. Please visit to learn if your college or department plans to have a reception and the location of said reception.

24 Cultural Recognition Ceremonies Each year, the University hosts cultural commencement ceremonies. These events complement the University Commencement by adding a unique multicultural dimension that celebrates our diverse student population and honors our graduates and their families. Leadership for these ceremonies is provided by faculty and staff associations, student leaders, clubs and organizations, and cultural resource centers. All graduating students are welcome to participate. 25 HONORS CONVOCATION May 18

26 Honors Convocation Honors Convocation celebrates the achievements of those graduating Summa Cum Laude, President Scholars Graduates, CSUF Honors Program Graduates and those students receiving special awards at graduation. Invitations will be sent in late April should you be a recipient. Participating students, faculty, and staff must wear appropriate academic regalia (caps and gowns). Honors Distinction - Cum Laude, Magna & Summa Cum Laude: GPA Magna Cum Laude: GPA Summa Cum Laude: GPA *GPA determined at the end of the fall semester before graduation. If graduates are unable to attend Honors Convocation, medallions can be picked up in their Dean s Office.

27 COMMENCEMENT DRESS ATTIRE

28 Commencement Dress Attire Students must purchase their cap, gown, and tassel in order to participate in commencement ceremonies. This academic regalia will be available for sale at GradFest and Titan Shops beginning in April. Students may choose to borrow a previous graduate s cap and gown as long as the cap and gown are provided by the same vendor as in previous years. Titan Shops is currently using Jostens as the cap and gown provider. Tassel: It is important for students to purchase their tassels and/or hoods according to their majors. Titan Shops staff can assist graduates in determining the correct tassels and/or hoods to purchase. Students are advised to dress comfortably and appropriately during commencement weekend. Comfortable shoes are highly recommended as there will be considerable walking and the graduates' chairs are on the lawn.

29 DIPLOMA 9 Weeks After Date of Graduation

30 Diploma Certificates of Participation are presented at the college/department graduation ceremonies. Diplomas will be ready approximately 9 weeks after the effective date of graduation and will be mailed directly to each graduate. Please make sure the Graduation Unit has your current address on file. Padded diploma cases are available for purchase at Titan Shops. If you are a double major, both degrees are listed on one diploma.
