Matrix Technical Support Mailer 159 SNMP configuration in ETERNITY Dear Friends, This mailer tells us how to configure SNMP in Matrix ETERNITY. In this MTSM we will see the procedure to configure different SNMP parameters. Introduction: Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) is a standard protocol used to manage devices on IP network The SNMP architecture mainly consists of three key components: 1. SNMP Agent: Already provided built in with Matrix ETERNITY 2. SNMP Manager: Monitor and control managed devices. It generates SNMP requests and receives SNMP responses 3. Management Information Base (MIB): It is a commonly shared database between the agent and the manager The version and revision of the ETERNITY system must be V12R1 and above for SNMP to work SNMP uses UDP (User Datagram Protocol) as the transport protocol for passing information between managers and agents. The agent listens on UDP port 161 for requests from manager and manager listens on UDP port 162 for notification from agent SNMP version supported on Matrix ETERNITY: 1. SNMPv1 2. SNMPv2c 3. SNMPv3 Here we have shown SNMP configuration for all 3 protocols. However, you can use either of the three protocols
SNMP manager installation: Here we will use SNMPB software as an SNMP manager. It is open source software so you can download and use the software free of charge: Download link: http://sourceforge.net/projects/snmpb/ Install the software in your PC after download and open it. Click on shortcut on desktop to open software SNMPB software opened
