Working at Unipart What made you choose Unipart Rail for your apprenticeship? I chose Unipart Rail for my apprenticeship because the structure and environment of the apprenticeship was well suited to myself and what I wanted to do. I liked the idea of being able to work and get paid with a comprehensive training structure that allowed me to develop a range of skills. What kind of things did you do for your training and how do you think it benefited you? My training consisted of going to a local training school for around 6 months to develop basic electrical/electronic knowledge, fitting skills and a day release at South Cheshire College for two years to learn the theory of Electronic engineering. After the initial 6 months I returned to the Unipart Rail site and started a rotation of the various sections to get training on different products. Name - Dan Gilmore Position - Production Planner/A1 Assessor Year Joined - 2007

What is your favourite thing about working for Unipart Rail? At Unipart Rail there is such a wide and varied age group which incorporates a transverse skill set, enabling you to advance your skills. The environment is enthusiastic to apprentices with a friendly and helpful approach to all. What kind of opportunities and extra training have you been given whilst at Unipart Rail? I have been given the opportunity to become an assessor for NVQs which has enabled me to complete and assess NVQs in an electrical/electronic engineering field. I work now as a Production Planner, working through my apprenticeship and being able to develop my knowledge of products has enabled me to work towards a management position.
