Introduction Agored Cymru Qualifications Agored Cymru is the Welsh awarding body specialising in meeting the distinct needs of learners, employers and communities. We exist to create flexible learning opportunities and reward achievement to help people of every age and level achieve their full potential. All our units and qualifications are credit based, and flexible enough to meet the needs of learners in any setting from schools to FE and from offender learning to training in the workplace. With over 20 years of experience of designing inclusive learning, our team of specialists provides support in developing accessible and quality assured curriculum. We are a charity and social enterprise: we work collaboratively with partners to maximise the impact of learning in meeting the diverse needs of communities and employers in Wales. Because we work exclusively in Wales, we are ideally placed to respond to the demands of our learners and centres. Our qualifications are uniquely tailored to the needs and priorities of individuals, communities, employers and the aims of a modern Wales. We are the Welsh awarding body, working for the benefit of Wales: our dedicated team of specialists is committed to promoting the Welsh language by encouraging assessment through the medium of Welsh. We offer our recognised centres the opportunity to deliver effective lifelong learning, widen opportunity and enable progression within current education and training frameworks. At all times, we are committed to providing a high quality, responsive service to all our centres and learners. Agored Cymru Qualifications: are charged at certification, which means you only pay for units achieved by learners; are available through the medium of Welsh, including certification; enable accreditation of component units to recognise continuing professional development (CPD), where full qualifications are not required; meet the needs of learners in Wales by developing qualifications that respond directly to the Welsh agenda; provide a range of flexible and responsive provision, designed to help learners achieve their potential; 3 are designed to suit the needs and priorities of individuals, communities, employers and the national aims of a modern Wales.

Qualification Information Qualification Overview Agored Cymru s Entry Level Diploma in Hospitality Industry Skills provides a complete introduction to the wide ranging skills required necessary to succeed in this vocational area. The qualification includes topics traditionally associated with this industry including food preparation, food safety and customer service as well as other equally important skills such as working as a team and study skills. Its wide ranging coverage at an accessible level makes it a valuable stepping stone into the level 1 Professional Cookery Diploma and the level 1 Professional Food & Beverage Service diploma. Students who successfully complete the qualification would also have a foundation of skills and knowledge that employers require. This would enable them to enter industry and progress their learning under the guidance of more experienced colleagues and, if appropriate, through a level 2 apprenticeship programme. Entry Requirements This qualification is classified as suitable for pre-16 learners. Centres planning to offer qualifications to learners under 14 must review the fitness for purpose and appropriateness of the qualification for the younger learner. Potential risks such as health and safety, legal or moral issues should be considered in relation to the maturity of the learner and the suitability of the qualification to meet their needs, experience, development and progression. Delivery Languages This qualification is initially available in English and / or Welsh. If this qualification is required in other languages, please contact the Business Development team at Agored Cymru. BDTeam@agored.org.uk Offering the Qualifications This qualification is only available through Agored Cymru recognised centres. If you would like to find out more about either becoming a recognised centre or working in partnership with a recognised centre, please access the become a centre area of the website or contact a member of the Business Development team for more information. The delivery and assessment of the qualification should be carried out within a professional catering environment possessing appropriate facilities. 4 Staff delivering the qualification must have experience in hospitality. They must have a minimum of 5 years experience in teaching the subject or have skills at level 2 or above in the relevant vocational area.

Qualification Information Progression Opportunities Level 1 VRQ Level 1 NVQ Level 2 NVQ within an apprenticeship. Embedding Education for Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship (ESDGC) Agored Cymru is committed to the embedding of ESDGC within learning in Wales. ESDGC recognises that everyone s actions are interlinked: the decisions and lifestyles of learners impact on the lives of other people throughout the world. By integrating ESDGC within the curriculum, Learning and Development practitioners can present impartial and practical views that allow learners to make informed choices. ESDGC is not an additional subject : it should be integrated into all areas of the curriculum wherever possible. There are seven interconnected key themes that have been identified within ESDGC: further information can be found on the Welsh Government website. Each unit includes suggestions for embedding the different ESDGC themes. Please note that this is for guidance only and is not intended to restrict the ways in which ESDGC can be incorporated. Funding and Charges Current funding information is available at the Database of Approved Qualifications in Wales (DAQW). http://www.daqw.org.uk The current cost of each Agored Cymru qualification depends on the number of credits it contains. A minimum charge of 5 applies to any award of 1 credit. More information can be found on the charges section of the Agored Cymru website. A discount may be available for organisations registering learners for the full qualification from the outset. For further information regarding discounted charges and incentives please contact a member of the Business Development team on BDTeam@agored.org.uk 5
