VitIculture, winery Assistant and wine sales certificate programs Drink in one of the best parts of the Okanagan with a career in the flourishing B.C. wine industry. Get your start with the Viticulture, Winery Assistant or Wine Sales certificates at Okanagan College. In just a few months, you will gain the skills and knowledge needed to either farm a vineyard, work in a wine cellar, or work in wine sales. We believe learning should be hands-on and connect you with what s really happening in the wine industry. That s why our programs, taught by experienced professionals, include fieldtrips, guest speakers, a vineyard, wine shop or winery work experience placement and sensory wine tasting. Our certificate programs prepare you for entry into the wine industry, and our graduates have gone on to become award winning winemakers and vineyard managers with national and international experience. Today, our alumni can be found in many of the province s bustling vineyards and wineries.
VITICULTURE CERTIFICATE PROGRAM In the Viticulture Certificate program you will gain the skills and knowledge to farm a vineyard or seek employment in viticulture. The program is comprised of 267 hours of classroom instruction and 40 hours of work experience at a vineyard. The program is offered part-time or full-time. WINE 21 Introduction to Grapes and Wine VIT 22 Introduction to Grape Growing VIT 23 Vineyard Management VIT 04 Operation, Management and Safety of Vineyard Equipment VIT 13 Practicum You will learn: The scientific principles underlying grape growing for the purpose of wine production The various influences on grape quality Terminology Vineyard management including human resource and financial management Vineyard equipment operation, maintenance and safety
WINERY ASSISTANT CERTIFICATE PROGRAM In the Winery Assistant Certificate program you will gain the knowledge and skills to work alongside the many master winemakers in our region. The program is offered part-time and is comprised of 258 hours of classroom instruction and 50 hours of practicum in a winery. Wine Sales Certificate Program In the Wine Sales Certificate program you will gain the knowledge and skills to work in the exciting sales side of the wine industry. The program is offered part-time and is comprised of 147 hours of course work and 30 hours of practicum in the industry.
