6 WHAT IS TEFL? TEFL stands for Teaching English as a Foreign Language, and is a popular career path for those looking to teach English as a foreign language (EFL) in the UK and abroad. EFL teachers can come from any background, native or non-native English speakers, and do not need existing teaching English experience or qualifications. Once qualified, EFL teachers can teach English both in the UK and overseas. THE PRODUCT and the market The UK-TEFL Franchise uses the proven UK-TEFL classroom course model. These intensive 2 or 3 day courses will enable your students to qualify with a certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language. Courses can be run over a weekend or during the week. Courses can be public courses where anyone can join, or private courses run for groups such as schools, Universities or community groups. A broad range of people attend UK-TEFL courses and it is difficult to pin down exactly what a typical customer would look like. However we have found that our training is particularly popular with gap year students, career breakers, qualified teachers and those nearing retirement age. Most of our customers use the qualification to live and work overseas, although a significant number also remain in the UK to volunteer or work in their local community. 5

10 SAMPLE TURNOVER The figures below show typical annual franchise turnover for franchisees running 12, 24 or 52 courses per year. 11 INVESTMENT AND EARNING POTENTIAL The UK-TEFL Franchise fee starts from 15,000, please speak to the Head Office team for the accurate fee for your area. The UK-TEFL Franchise fee includes the exclusive right to operate UK-TEFL courses in your area, as well as full training and everything you need to run UK-TEFL courses. Management fees are payable. UK-TEFL LTD FRANCHISE PROSPECTUS Franchisees should have a minimum of 5,000 in liquid working capital to cover advertising and startup costs during the first year. This gives your new business the very best chance of success. Your earnings as a UK-TEFL Franchisee can vary enormously, since you are free to choose how many courses you run within your area. It s also possible to earn additional revenue through our TEFL Shop items, like books, teaching aids and exclusive manuals that have been written for UK-TEFL. If you re ready to take the next step in becoming a UK-TEFL Franchise Network franchisee: Complete the enclosed application form. This places you under no obligation. Fill in the application form and start your adventure today Next, we invite you to come and meet us. At this informal meeting, we ll ask you to sign a non-disclosure agreement, which means we can tell you all about how UK-TEFL Franchise Network works. If we all decide to proceed, we will invite you to observe a UK-TEFL course to understand the product you will be selling, and how the course model works. After observation, we will ask for a deposit which will secure the agreed territory, until you are able to sign the franchise agreement (FA). At this point, you may need to arrange funding. You will sign the FA and the balance of the franchise fee will be payable. Once the balance has been paid, you will then be expected to attend a full UK-TEFL standard course (2 days), if you haven t previously. You will then attend an initial two-day training programme in Lytham, at which point you will receive your full franchise package. A further two training days must be attended in your first year. 11
