HSPA CHESS - HISTORY 2006/7 Performing Arts Faculty purchase 6 Chess Sets/Boards for the School and a modest number of Chess enthusiasts form the 1 st HSPA Chess Club in the Library no great heights are reached at representative level and the Club soon goes into hibernation. Some years go by with no official Chess Club action although a small number of Yr 12 (Girls mainly) meet in relative secrecy at lunch in the Chess friendly Maths room of Mrs Hoskins. 2013 The HSPA Chess Club is resurrected under Mr Collins and Mr Bonjekovic in FT10 in the Science Wing it is immediately inundated with keen students and the New Era of HSPA Chess is born!

School Based Chess Competitions These are held in the Secondary Chess Club FT 10 and the Primary Chess Club DG 3 (Thursdays) The Championships held so far include: Secondary 2013 A Grade (Invitation basis - Top players only) 2014 A Grade (Invitation basis - Top players only) 2014 Open (does not include the A graders is for boys and girls) 2014 Girls (Restricted girls only comp) Primary 2014 A Grade (Invitation basis - Top players only)

Winners names are also engraved on a large Perpetual Trophy which is on permanent display in a prominent spot in our Main Office Foyer. A similar format is expected to follow in the case of the recently run Primary Open Comp.
