It also provides access to the rainforest of Central Africa and its forest elephants and lowland gorillas. Most itineraries require an overnight in Nairobi, and one of the best places to stay is the suburb of Karen where you can also visit the Karen Blixen Museum, Giraffe Manor or the Daphne Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage during feeding time in the afternoon. House of Waine Nestled in the leafy surrounds of Karen Forest in the outskirts of Nairobi, is the elegant House of Waine - a fine establishment that provides its guests with a tranquil atmosphere and superb accommodation. House of Waine s 11 suites are individually styled and feature a large marble en-suite bathroom (with a separate shower and bath), satellite television, personal bar and mini safe. Amboseli, Kenya Have you ever dreamed of waking up in your safari tent, and seeing the snows of Kilimanjaro from your bed? Amboseli National Park is where you can do just that. The camps we use are set on large private reserves that lie adjacent to the national park and allow you to do non-park activities such as walking safaris, night drives, and visits to Maasai communities and group ranches. You can also take game drives inside the park for views of some of the biggest bull elephants you have ever seen, all framed by Kilimanjaro in the background. Satao Elerai Satao Elerai Camp is located in a quiet, unspoiled, unique setting on a 5000-acre private conservation area seven miles southeast of Amboseli National Park at the foot of Mt. Kilimanjaro. The camp looks down onto the Amboseli National Park in one direction and up to Mt. Kilimanjaro in the other direction. Satao Elerai has five lodge-style suite rooms and nine deluxe mountain facing tents, both designed to ensure that your stay will be in complete luxury. Large, comfortable beds and quality linen combine to ensure that you will sleep through the night in total comfort in front of Mt. Kilimanjaro. Each tent has its own en-suite bathroom with solar hot showers and a toilet with a view. Raised cedar-wood floors, acacia poles and makuti (thatch) roofing complement the surrounding environment. Large balconies with relaxing day beds combine to offer the perfect place to lie as you take in the ambience when relaxing. The elegantly furnished suite rooms have large sliding doors that open out onto your own private verandah overlooking the plains below and Amboseli National Park. Elephants, giraffe s and zebra are seen most days from the comfort of your room. Designed using natural rock and acacia wood, the bathrooms have their own naturally crafted bathtub and shower which is unique to Elerai. One of the biggest advantages of Satao Elerai Camp is that it is located on its own private conservation area: Clients have the chance to view wildlife in private surroundings. Nairobi Mt. Kenya/Laikipia Scheduled Light Aircraft Transfer (30 minutes) Mt. Kenya/Laikipia, Kenya This is an up and coming wildlife area of Kenya. The Laikipia National Park was created on November 8, 2011 and is a very new national park. It is an open savanna ecosystem that supports a wide diversity of species, from the endangered Grevy s zebra and elephant to the patas monkey, Somali ostrich, and Beisa oryx. It is also central to many surrounding private ranches such as the Ol Pejeta Ranch and the Segera Ranch, where you can enjoy safaris unaffected by national park restrictions. Lewa Safari Camp Lewa Safari Camp is based within the private 65,000-acre wildlife conservancy of the Lewa Wilderness Trust in the Laikipia region. The conservancy is home to about 10 percent of Kenya's black rhino population, and the single largest population of Grevy's zebra in the world. Lewa re-invests all the profits generated from tourism (including profits from Lewa Safari Camp) into its core programs. Each of the 12 tents has a thatched roof, verandah and full en-suite bathroom. The central areas have exquisite gardens with a large sunny verandah and swimming pool to enjoy during the day, and cozy log fires in the lounge and dining room for the more chilly evenings. Activities include escorted game viewing drives in a four-wheel-drive vehicle, escorted horseback rides amongst the plains animals, and local walks. You can learn to read animal spoor and approach game on foot for exciting pictures. The four-wheel-drive safari vehicles are open-sided with an overhead canvas awning to provide shade. There is a prehistoric site on the ranch where rough-hewn Acheulian hand axes can be found scattered on the ground, perhaps a half million years old. There is also a picturesque waterfall on the property, where you can ramble among the rocks or enjoy a relaxing afternoon reading or bird watching. Included: Accommodation, meals, house soft drinks, beers, wines & selected spirits, shared scheduled day & night game drives, off-road game viewing, guided walks, bush picnics & sundowners, limited laundry, shared Lewa airstrip transfers, Lewa Conservancy Fees Available at an Additional Cost: Luxury wines & spirits, visit to Il'Ngwesi cultural boma (minimum 2 guests), horse rides, camel rides, massage and spa treatments, exclusive use of vehicle (subject to availability), late departures (check out time remains 10:00am), curio shop items, scenic helicopter tours Amenities: Cell Phone Coverage, Ensuite Bathrooms, Laundry Included, Local Drinks Included, Pool, Recharge Facilities, Wi-Fi 24 SEP 2016-26 SEP 2016 Masai Mara Mt. Scheduled Light Aircraft Transfer (30 minutes) Nairobi Masai Mara Scheduled Light Aircraft Transfer (1 hour) Masai Mara, Kenya There is a very good reason the Masai Mara is such a popular safari destination. It is hands down the best place to see wildlife in Kenya. It is also stunning. The Mara River winds through vast, open short-grass plains and the Oloololo Escarpment provides a breathtaking backdrop. Flat-topped acacias occasionally dot the landscape, and ballooning over this area will give you silent, low-level views of hippos, buffalo, giraffes, elephants and, of course, herds of wildebeest and zebra that you will never forget. The reserve is actually a continuation of the plains of the Serengeti as they cross the border from Tanzania into Kenya. Mara Plains Mara Plains Camp is located on the northern border of the Masai Mara Game Reserve in the 30,000-acre Olare Orok Conservancy. Rarely a night passes without lions roaring nearby, while leopards are regularly found to wander through the camp and cheetahs have established territories on the savannah nearby the main area. Mara Plains Camp is a small, high quality, seven-roomed camp under canvas and on raised decks with sweeping views across Kenya s notable savannahs. The camp is secluded, and it isn t until just before you cross the memorable and grand swing bridge steps that it reveals itself. Once across the river, and under the cool shade of the trees, there is a lovely open grass area leading to the main area. Mara Plains Camp is centered around three open-air marquis tents connected together in a pod concept. There are two lounges, one with a small library and writing area. A main dining room with a grand wood table and magnificent chandelier host breakfast and some dinners. Also raised on decking, and blessed with sweeping views, the central area brings together the whole camp. As the evening ends, move to the open-air campfire and listen as the resident lion prides begin their night s exploits. The camp caters for only 14 guests in seven uniquely designed octagonal canvas rooms. Each is raised on decks, and opens on three sides to the outside. Floor-to-ceiling net walls and the marquis ceiling make for very open-air and inviting environs. The rooms have a dressing area as well as private verandas with seating and exquisite views. The en-suite facilities consist of a double-basin vanity, flush toilet and shower. Complementary refreshments and snacks are served on all our drives and include tea and coffee on the morning drive and the traditional "sundowner" cocktail in the late afternoon. Special meals and dietary requirements can be catered for on request. Mara Plains offers early morning and late afternoon and night game drives, hot air balloon safaris (at extra cost), authentic local village visits and unrivalled access to superior wildlife habitats.
