WINES FROM THE HEART OF RIBERA DEL DUERO

WINES FROM THE HEART OF RIBERA DEL DUERO The region is characterised by a largely flat, rocky terrain and is centred on the town of Aranda de Duero, although the most famous vineyards surround Peñafiel and Roa de Duero to the west. Geologically, tertiary sediments, consisting of gently lenticular layers of silty or clayey sand, alternate with layers of limestone, marl and chalky concretions. The Duero valley, formed during the Miocene period, has a flat, rocky, gently undulating terrain, ranging from 911 m down to 750 m above sea level. The Ribera del Duero has moderate to low rainfall (450 mm per year) and is exposed to quite extreme climatic conditions; long, dry summers with temperatures of up to 40 C are followed by hard winters during which temperatures may fall as low as -18 C. There are also marked variations in temperature within each season. The climate is continental and Mediterranean, with more than 2,400 hours of annual sunlight.

PEÑAFIEL The Winery is located in the pretty Ribera town of Peñafiel, where the Duero and Duraton rivers converge. Peñafiel is watched over by a majestic castle, an official national monument and the main attraction for the visitors to these lands which, as well as being able to enjoy the local gastronomic delights accompanied by the best wines of the Ribera del Duero, can follow one of the best itinearires of museums and tourist sites in Spain.

PINNA FIDELIS appeared in 2001 as the result of an initiative by a group of growers in the Peñafiel distric, a privileged zone within the Denominación de Origen Ribera del Duero. Their concept of a wine cellar is the combination, in perfect harmony, of the traditional way of making wine in the area and a philosophy of innovation in the products, seeking to satisfay the new tastes of consumers of the wines. The facilities wich have been set up in the bodega give you one of the most modern vision currenty to be seen in the Ribera del Duero appellation.

The barrel room, like other parts of the cellar, is equipped with temperature and humidity controls wich, along with the selection of new American and French oak barrels, helps to developed even finer characteristics in our wines, giving them a whole symphony of unequalied sensations and displaying this unique personality that Pinna Fidelis stamps on its wines. The cellar tasks of topping casks and racking continues constantly, and the barrel room is the heart of the bodega, were great wines are raised. Once the time in the cask is complete, the wine is fined with white egg and bottled.

The winemaking philosophy behind all the Pinna Fidelis wines is to reflect the characteristics of a production area in which the particular qualities of a very spaciel climate and soil combine to produce powerful, well structured wines wich are at the same time fine and elegant. The grapes undergo a strict selection process before being left to macerate for between 20 and 35 days. Afterwards, and once the malolactic fermentation is completed, the free run wine goes into oak cask without any prior processing. Pinna Fidelis is supplied by 225 ha of vines wich it checks and controls most rigorously. Harvesting is by hand, with the selection of only the best grapes and under no circumstances picking more than 5000 kg per ha, so as to give our wines all the quality wich the variety is able to provide when picked in the perfect state of ripeness and heatlh. One of the pillar on wich Pinna Fidelis is based, so as to be able to offer such high levels of quality, is to know how to combine the excellent raw material it possesses with the latest winemaking technology, thanks to its state of the art installations.

PINNA FIDELIS ROBLE 2014 WINES FROM THE HEART OF RIBERA DEL DUERO Harvest: Hand-picking of selected bunches. Variety: 100% Tinta del país Alcohol: 13.0%-13.5% Vol. Harvest and Production Harvesting is carefully done by hand. Grapes from our own vineyards are used in production. The fruit is obtained at its ideal point of maturity by rigorous hand-picking in each vine plot individually. After the grape harvest, the wines are left to macerate for 15 days. Then they are fined and bottled. Tasting notes Colour: Clear, brilliant, intense picota cherry red with a fine layer of blueish tinges. Aroma: Intense, very fresh red fruit, strawberry, raspberry. Palate: Light and pleasant. Rounded tan- nins, persistence in good balance with aci- dity. Serving recommendations: serve at a temperature of 15-16oC

PINNA FIDELIS CRIANZA 2011 WINES FROM THE HEART OF RIBERA DEL DUERO Harvest method: By hand, selecting individual clusters. Varietal: 100% Tempranillo. Barrel aging: 12 months (French oak barrels). Alcohol content: 14%-14,5% Vol. Harvest and Production Harvesting is carefully done by hand, selecting the best plots according to soil type, exposure to sunlight, and location. Only the best vineyards at their optimal point of polyphenolic maturation are used. This wine has a highly distinctive character. After the harvest, our must is macerated for 35 days to extract the grape s full potential and to obtain the powerful, elegant wines that characterise Aicara. The wine was placed in barrels made of French oak from the finest coopers, without being clarified or filtered, where it aged for 12 months. We took great care of the wine while it was in the barrels, regularly conducting Batonage, topping it and racking it in the spring and autumn. Finally, the wine was fined to being bottled. Tasting notes Colour: Vivid cherry red core with a thin layer exhibiting purple shades. Nose: Red fruit: raspberry and red currant, and black fruit: blueberry and blackberry, perfectly blended with spices: vanilla and clove from the barrel, light shades of cedar. Taste: Fleshy and smooth, with well blended tannins, long, very pleasant aftertaste and delightfully moreish.

PINNA FIDELIS RESERVA 2006 WINES FROM THE HEART OF RIBERA DEL DUERO Harvest method: By hand, selecting individual clusters. Varietal: 100% Tempranillo. Barrel aging. 18 months.(french 75% an american 25% oak barrels). Alcohol content: 14%-14,5% Vol. Harvest and Production The choice vineyards where the best clusters are selected to make this exclusive wine are carefully harvested by hand. These vines have a very low production, and never exceed 3,000Kg per hectare. This means we obtain fruit with marked characteristics of the production area s terroir. After the grapes were harvested, the must was macerated for 35 days. Then it was placed in barrels made of French oak (75%) and American oak (25%) from the finest coopers, without being clarified or filtered, where it aged for 18 months. We took great care of the wine while it was in the barrels, regularly conducting Batonage, topping it and racking it in the spring and autumn. Finally, the wine was fined with egg white prior to being bottled. Tasting notes Colour: Vivid cherry red core, exhibiting a thin layer of maroon shades. Fullbodied and brilliant. Nose: After breathing in the wine glass, black fruit: black currant, blueberry and blackberry, fruit compote, cacao, chocolate, subtle dark-roasted aroma, pepper and clove. Taste: Powerful, fleshy, round, sweet grape tannins, and smooth.

PINNA FIDELIS GRAN RESERVA 2006 WINES FROM THE HEART OF RIBERA DEL DUERO Harvest method: By hand, selecting individual clusters. Varietal: 100% Tempranillo. Barrel aging. 24 months.(french an american oak barrels). Alcohol content: 15% Vol. Harvest and Production The grapes are manually harvested, selecting the best clusters at their optimal point of polyphenolic maturation. At that moment the grapes have the highest concentration of colour and tannins. The grapes are harvested from unirrigated vineyards which are more than fifty years old and goblet-shaped so the grapes ripen little by little concentrating sweet tannins, aroma and colour, due to their low production. Once the grapes were harvested, the wine was macerated for a total of 40 days, with the aim to intensely obtain all the concentration of the grapes, and to round out and refine the tannin. After completing the fermentation and the maceration the wine was stored in new barrels of high quality French oak. This wine was aged for 24 months in slightly toasted barrels so as to preserve the grape characteristics. During the wine aging process, the barrels were frequently filled and the wine was racked in spring and autumn. Finally the wine was fined and bottled. Tasting notes Colour: Vivid cherry red core, exhibiting a thin layer of maroon shades. Clean, translucent and satiny. Aroma: Complex aroma of high intensity, ripe fruit compote, cinnamon, cocoa, just-roasted coffee beans and high roast coffee. With time, floral aromas of violets can be detected. Palate: Powerful, fleshy, round, sweet tannin, saany and friendly in the mouth.
