vineyards 1. Casablanca / The main geographical feature of this valley is the influence of the sea, entering from the Pacific Ocean and producing a morning mist that acts as a temperature moderator. This characteristic favours the best possible development of the vineyard, while requiring special treatment in order to achieve the desired ripeness. The varieties that grow best in this zone are Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir. 2. Maipo / This valley is the one with the greatest wine-producing P a c i f i c O c e a n tradition in Chile and is the most famous worldwide. It has a temperate climate with a dry, hot summer. It is a zone that is almost frostfree and the rainfall is concentrated between April and September. The soils are alluvial in origin, stony, with good drainage and average fertility. Its climatic conditions favour the development of red wine varieties, mainly Cabernet Sauvignon. The constant desire to find areas that best reflect the aromas and flavours of each of our grape varieties has led us to diversify our fruit production between different valleys within Chilean territory. 3. Rapel / The valley has a warm climate with a high concentration of rainfall in the winter months, frosts in spring and high temperatures in the summer. Its climate helps red varieties to develop best. Although most of the planting corresponds to Cabernet Sauvignon, the main varieties identified with this valley are Merlot, Carmenère and Syrah. Casablanca Valley 4. Curicó / This zone has a sub-humid Mediterranean climate, P a c i f i c O c e a n Maipo Valley Rapel Valley Curicó Valley Maule Valley influenced by the Pacific anticyclone. It is characterised by its strongly marked seasons, with rainy winters and dry summers, cloudless and sunny. The breadth of the thermal range, so necessary to obtain optimum quality, spans 20 C, allowing the adaptation of a number of varieties. The wines have a high concentration of fruit, with Sauvignon Blanc being the most representative. 5. Maule / The climate of this region can be defined as sub-humid Mediterranean, though it is recognised as the valley with greatest climatic diversity of all the different areas. The rainfall is heavy and concentrated in winter and temperatures tend to be low, with greater thermal variation between day and night. The soils are alluvial and volcanic in origin. The main varieties are Cabernet Sauvignon and Carmenère.

winery Location: Rapel Valley, 122 kilometres south of Santiago. / Reception lines: a selection table with two lines, connected to crushers and heat exchangers. / Presses zone: pneumatic and hydraulic presses with a total capacity of 300 tons per day. / Bottling line: two multi-format lines, capable to bottle 5,000 bottles per hour. / Installed capacity: 11.5 million litres in stainless steel tanks and 800 thousand litres ageing in American and French oak barrels. / Ageing capacity: ageing cellars with room for 1 million bottles. / Laboratories: for analysis and microbiology, with stateof-the-art instruments to ensure the quality of our product.

winemaking We have always sought to produce wines with identity, with results that are specific to the vintage and enhanced by their particular terroirs. All of this is supported by our knowledge, experience and technology acquired over the years. The results are a reflection of the management of production processes carried out with commitment and delicacy, in order to respect the originality of each variety. We are constantly developing new techniques, such as high-density planting, hitherto unknown in Chile, incorporating genetic material tested with local and imported clone selections, judicious use of water in irrigation, vineyards managed with organic procedures, good agricultural practices and strong social responsibility. A strong sign of our innovation was the discovery and development of the Casablanca Valley as a producer of Premium wines, and this will be enhanced with the new vineyards. Innovation in styles, the development of archaeological oenology, stability in production and the constant quest for diversity in colours and flavours has led us to be recognised for our quality and ability to combine terroir, crops, oenology and certification with the development of international markets. Winemaker Director

For several years we had been searching for a production area in the Casablanca Valley to reinforce one of the great cornerstones of our brand identity. The aim was to have an estate with a variety of soils and mesoclimates, in order to grow different varieties and clones, making it possible for us to obtain the best out of the Valley. D B E L É N P R O J E C T C A S A B L A N C A VA L L E Y

The location of the estate, situated in the chain of hills belonging to the Coastal Range, makes it possible for us to develop the ideal terroir, guaranteeing a climate with the influence of the sea, which is a classic feature of Casablanca. Its geological origins have given rise to four main series of soils and two combinations of these, providing sufficient edaphological diversity to allow for different varieties. The topography of mountains and level ground offers very varied exposure to the sun and different altitudes for planting, resulting in highly suitable mesoclimates for each of them. In addition, it has a large lake on one side which offers the possibility of draining the waters and at the same time produces a high relative humidity that will allow us stable production of wines affected by noble rot. ANALYSING THE ESTATE SCIENTIFICALLY, ELEVEN DIFFERENT TERROIRS WERE IDENTIFIED. THIS GAVE US ABSOLUTE CERTAINTY AND CONFIDENCE THAT WE WOULD REACH ALL THE OBJECTIVES WE HAD SET OURSELVES. THE DEVELOP- MENT OF HIGH-DENSITY PLANTING WITH THE MATERIAL SPECIFIED GIVES US FUR- THER ASSURANCE OF OBTAINING WINES OF THE HIGHEST EXPECTED QUALITY.

1. Our Vineyard The Belén Estate is situated in the heart of the Casablanca Valley, in the sector known as Lo Ovalle. It consists of 130 hectares, which were planted in two stages, the first in 2004 and the second in 2005, both between the months of October and December. The vineyard has a density of 10,101 plants per hectare, with a distance of 1.5 metres between rows and 0.66 metres along the row. 2. Physical Characteristics of the Estate Temperature / Typically, the winter is cold with an average maximum of 15 C and minimum of 2 C During the summer, there is a very wide thermal range, with the average minimum being 9 C and the maximum, 30 C There are also considerable differences in temperature between the slopes and the level sector, where the frosts always occur. Water / The estate did not have sufficient water for irrigation, so water rights were bought from a neighbouring farm. The well is situated 1.8 kilometres outside the boundaries of the estate, and the water is transferred from there by underground conduit to the first irrigation hut. Soils and Levels / In general the soils are medium-to-heavy in texture. In the case of the hill-sides, they are typically loose clay. There is a difference in levels between 274 metres in the low sector and 385 metres in the high sector. 3. Study for the Design of the Plantation Various studies were carried out in order to obtain the best possible information for designing the plantation. Among these, it is important to draw attention to the following: Satellite Image / This was used to visualise the surroundings of the estate, the topography, vegetation and nearby water sources. Aerial Photograph / This shows the spatial location of the estate, making it possible to determine the plant cover, the geological forms, the drainage network and points of reference such as roads, constructions, etc. Topographic Map / This made it possible to find out the different heights of the country on the basis of the contour lines. Using this, the determining factors of the climate in the vineyard were defined and zones that were at risk from frost were marked. Sun Exposure Map / By using this map it was possible to find out the zones of sunlight and shade, a very important factor when deciding which variety to establish within the estate, and also to find out the temperature differences that may be encountered.

5. High-Density Planting This concept establishes a close relation between the density of planting and the quality of the grape. This is why we have concentrated on developing high-density plantations that are unique in Chile, in order to produce wines of exceptional quality in each of the segments. High density makes it possible to explore greater volumes of soil, make better use of the available humidity and have a larger number of elements to capture radiant energy. 6. Micro-terroirs After an analysis of different research studies, it was scientifically concluded that there are eleven different micro-terroirs in existence. These were named after the native trees growing in each individual area, such as Boldo, Quillay or Maiten. This allows us to work each of micro-terroirs independently, taking careful consideration of the variety planted and it s potential. By doing this we are able to obtain different types of wines with specific characteristics, an identity of their own and a quality that is consistent over time. 7. Technology and Agricultural Practices Irrigation / The irrigation system is by drip feed, in which there is a droplet for each plant with a flow rate of 2.8 litres per hour. There are also almost 14,000 linear metres of pipeline per hectare, which is used for irrigation and frost control. Frost Control / Frosts occur in the level sectors and control is carried out by sprinklers. Each one sprays a rain of 3 millimetres per hour, allowing one degree of temperature to be controlled for each millimetre of water sprayed. Pruning / Depending on the yield that one wishes to obtain per hectare, one needs to use the pruning system that will leave more or less buds per shoot. In this case, in order to obtain a low yield, the simple Guyot system is used, which involves mixed pruning on a short trunk. In other words, the stock is made up of an elongated trunk carrying one shoot with two buds and a stem whose length will depend on the strength of the vine stock.

The facilities at Belén offer the visitor an exciting way of discovering the landscape. Both the general lay-out and the design of each architectural element allow us to see things differently; they transform the place for us into something even more attractive, valuable and interesting. This is why the design seeks a way of being in the place that invites one to look closely at the multiple details that do not appear at first glance. The buildings are a delicate combination of architecture and nature, producing exceptional balances. The simplicity of their forms, the mimesis of colour and the manner of implantation mean that the gaze always returns to the landscape. The buildings are never the whole instead they blend with the landscape, without hiding their geometric essence. They are situated delicately on the ridge where the mantles of vineyards meet the native vegetation of the hillside, in a position with a commanding view over the valley. 36 It is only in special years that Late Harvest can be produced. The combination of rain that affects the harvest late harvest during the ripening and gathering of the grapes, followed by cold, misty days, permits the slow development of noble rot (botrytis). This, together with late harvesting, helps deliver the unique flavour of this wine that is characterised by its intense aromas, luscious sweetness and superb concentration of flavours. Winemaking Concept / Prepared with grapes affected by noble rot, harvested late and selected by hand. In the winery a second selection takes place, first by clusters, to separate out those that have grey rot, and then grape by grape. The botrytis occurs mainly because of the rainfall and morning sea-mists. Style / The wine offers a golden yellow colour with greenish tones, together with a particular sweetness and aromas of vanilla and honey.
