SUPPORTED OPERATING SYSTEMS ios 7.1 or higher FEATURES Allows you to easily access, transfer, share, and backup information. Organize your files quickly and easily. Protect your files during transfer with secure folders. Transfer contacts from one device to another. INSTALLING THE IMATION LINK APP 1. Open Apple App Store, then search for Imation LINK. OR Go to www.imation.com/linkapp 2. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the app. MIGRATING FROM IMATION POWER DRIVE LT APP? We saved all of your content previously stored in Local. Just look under ios Device LINK App Folder View. See Accessing files for other options. 3
1. Tap OPENING THE IMATION LINK APP OR Connect your Imation LINK device. Note: When connecting the LINK device when the app is not open, the prompt appears. Select Allow to manage storage on your device. 4
IMATION LINK MAIN MENU The Imation LINK main menu displays the areas where your files can be transferred and stored. ios Device LINK Device Tap to expand menu options for files stored inside the LINK App or Camera Roll on your device. Tap to expand menu options for files stored on your LINK device. Settings Tap to expand and find information about this app. CAUTION: If the Imation LINK App is uninstalled from your iphone, ipad or ipod, all content (including photos, videos, and music) stored in the LINK App will be deleted. Camera Roll storage is not affected. It is recommended to use this folder for temporary storage only. ACCESSING FILES Note: It may take a while to load your files the first time you access them in the Imation LINK App. After thumbnails are generated they will be cached for faster access. 5
PHOTOS 1. If your photos are saved to your: iphone, ipad or ipod, tap ios Device, Camera Roll, then All Photos or ios Device, LINK App, then All Photos. LINK device, tap the LINK device you want to use, then All Photos. 2. To find a photo: Tap Tap Tap (View in List) to view your photos as a list. (View in Grid) to view your photos as a grid. to sort photos by name or date. Tap, then enter a file name to search for in the current view. 3. Tap a photo to view it. 4. To view all your photos as a slideshow, tap (Slideshow), adjust your slideshow options, then tap Start Slideshow. When you are finished, tap the screen to stop the slideshow. Note: The slideshow will start with your first photo or the photo you are viewing full screen. VIDEOS 1. If your videos are saved to your: iphone, ipad or ipod, tap ios Device, Camera Roll, then All Videos or ios Device, LINK App, then All 6
Videos. LINK Device, tap the LINK device you want to use, then All Videos. 2. To find a video, tap, then enter a file name to search for in the current folder. 3. Tap a video to play. Note: Tap Done to stop the video. MUSIC 1. If your music is saved to your: iphone, ipad or ipod in-app storage, tap LINK App, then All Music. ios Device, Note: Apple does not allow the Imation LINK App to access music in the itunes storage on your phone. Only music files on your LINK device or copied from a LINK Device to LINK App storage will be accessible. LINK Device, tap the LINK device you want to use, then All Music. 2. Tap the tabs to sort your music by: Artist Album Song Playlist Genre 7
3. Tap the song that you want to play. 4. To control playback: Tap or Tap Tap to play or pause the song. to skip to the previous song. to skip to the next song. Use your iphone, ipad or ipod s controls to adjust the volume. Tip: You can also control playback from your app s main menu. 5. To create a playlist, touch Playlist, then, enter your playlist name, select Save, select songs, then tap Done. 8
FOLDERS 1. To open the folders on your: iphone, ipad or ipod s memory, tap App, then Folder View. ios Device, LINK LINK Device, tap the LINK device you want to use, then Folder View. 2. To find a folder or file: Tap to sort by name or date. Tap, then enter a file name to search for in the folders and files currently listed. Note: The search function will only search what is currently open. To search for content inside a folder it must be open. 3. To create a new folder, tap, enter a name, then tap OK. 9
MOVING OR COPYING FILES PHOTOS, VIDEOS, OR MUSIC 1. Locate the file that you want to transfer. See Accessing files for more information. 2. To select the file, touch and selection circles appear. Tap to select individual files. Note: Once the circles display for a photo, video or file, the Select All option will appear at the top of the screen. Tap to select all files listed. Then tap individual files to de-select any files you do not wish to copy or move. You may also tap to de-select all files. 3. Tap, then tap Copy to (create a copy in a new location) or Move to (to save the current file to a new location). 10
4. Select where you want to save your file, then tap Copy or Move. Note: See Emailing and sharing files on social media or cloud storage for more information about sharing files. ios Device LINK device Storage inside LINK App on your iphone, ipad, or ipod Your Imation LINK external storage device. Securefolder Encrypted files stored on your Imation LINK external storage device. 5. When your file is finished copying or moving, tap OK. 11
BACKING UP AND IMPORTING CONTACTS CREATING A BACKUP Note: All contacts are saved in a single VCF file. You cannot save individual contacts. 1. Tap ios Device, then tap Contacts. 2. Select Export. 3. Select your LINK device. Note: Selecting a different location will save a copy of your contacts in your iphone, ipad or ipod s internal memory and will not back them up to another device. 4. Select the folder you want to save your contacts in (if needed), then tap Export. 5. Tap OK when the message appears. 12
6. Tap OK when your export is complete. Importing contacts Note: You must export your contacts to create a backup file before they can be imported. See Creating a backup for instructions. 1. Tap ios Device, then tap Contacts. 2. Select Import. 3. Select the location where your contacts are saved, tap the Contacts file, then tap Import. 4. Tap OK when your import is complete. Note: All contacts in the backup file will be imported. You cannot select individual contacts. 13
BACKING UP YOUR ENTIRE PHOTO/VIDEO COLLECTION Note: To back up your contacts, see Backing up and importing contacts. PHOTOS OR VIDEOS Note: Your LINK device must be connected to your iphone, ipad or ipod to back up your photos and videos. 1. Tap ios Device, then tap Camera Roll Backup. 2. Tap the LINK device you want to use. 3. Tap Skip existing files to ignore photos and videos you previously saved to your LINK device, then tap Start Backup. OR Tap Overwrite existing files to save over photos and videos you previously saved to your LINK device, then tap Start Backup. 14
4. Tap OK when your backup is complete. You can access the files in the Backup folder in the Folder View. See Accessing files for more information. 15
ENCRYPTING YOUR FILES To encrypt files on your LINK device, save them to the securefolder. These files have AES 128 encryption and must be copied or moved out of the folder to view or edit. CAUTION: Files encrypted with the Imation LINK App can only be decrypted with the LINK App and are not readable on a personal computer. WARNING: If you forget both your password and the answer to your security question, your encrypted files cannot be recovered by any means. Saving encrypted files for the first time 1. Locate the file that you want to securely store. See Accessing files for more information. 2. To select the file, touch and selection circles appear. Tap to select individual files. Note: Once the circles display for a photo, video or file, the Select All option will appear at the top of the screen. Tap to select all files listed. Then tap individual files to de-select any files you do not wish to copy or move. You may also tap to de-select all files. 16
3. Tap, then tap Move to or Copy to. 4. Tap securefolder. 5. If you are saving a file to the securefolder for the first time, enter a password twice. 6. Select a security question from the list, enter your answer, then tap Save. 17
7. Select a location in the securefolder (if needed), then tap Move or Copy. 8. When your file is finished copying or moving, tap OK. Encrypting additional files 1. Locate the file that you want to transfer. See Accessing files for more information. 2. To select the file, touch and selection circles appear. Tap to select individual files. Note: Once the circles display for a photo, video or file, the Select All option will appear at the top of the screen. Tap to select all files listed. Then tap individual files to de-select any files you do not wish to copy or move. You may also tap to de-select all files. 18
3. Tap, then tap Move to or Copy to. 4. Tap securefolder. 5. Enter your password, then tap OK. Note: If you forget your password, tap Recover password to enter the answer to your security question. Your password is displayed. 6. Select a location in the securefolder (if needed), then tap Move or Copy. 7. When your file is finished copying or moving, tap OK. Accessing encrypted files Files cannot be viewed in the securefolder. Files must be copied or moved out of the folder to view them. 1. Tap the LINK device you want to access, Folder view, then tap securefolder. 19
2. Enter your password, then tap OK. Note: If you forget your password, tap Recover password to enter the answer to your security question. Your password is displayed. 3. 6. When your file is finished copying or moving, tap OK. 7. Navigate to view the saved file. See Accessing files for more information. Removing files from the securefolder 1. Locate the file that you want to remove. See Accessing encrypted files for more information. 2. To select the file, touch and selection circles appear. Tap to select individual files. Note: Once the circles display for a photo, video or file, the Select All option will appear at the top of the screen. Tap to select all files listed. Then tap individual files to de-select any files you do not wish to delete or move. You may also tap to de-select all. 3. To move your file, tap, then tap Move to, select where you would like to save your file, then tap Move. OR To delete your file, Tap, then Delete. 4. When your file is finished moving or deleting, tap OK. 21
Changing the securefolder password 1. Remove all files from the securefolder. See Encrypting your files for instructions. 2. Move a file back to the securefolder. You are prompted to enter a new password and security question. See Saving encrypted files for the first time for instructions. 22
EMAILING AND SHARING FILES ON SOCIAL MEDIA OR CLOUD STORAGE Note: To share files on social media, you will need to be signed into your social media account through your iphone, ipad or ipod. 1. Locate the file that you want to share. See Accessing files for more information. 2. To select files, touch and selection circles appear. Tap to select individual files. Note: Once the circles display for a photo, video or file, the Select All option will appear at the top of the screen. Tap to select all files listed. Then tap individual files to de-select any files you do not wish to copy or move. You may also tap to de-select all files. 23
3. Tap, then select Mail, desired social media, or cloud storage account from the list. From this menu you can also copy files into the Camera Roll on your phone or tablet. Note: You cannot share songs to Facebook or Twitter accounts. 4. Follow the on-screen prompts to share your file. 24
DELETING FILES 1. Locate the file that you want to delete. See Accessing files for more information. 2. To select files, touch and selection circles appear. Tap to select individual files. Note: Once the circles display for a photo, video or file, the Select All option will appear at the top of the screen. Tap to select all files listed. Then tap individual files to de-select any files you do not wish to copy or move. You may also tap to de-select all files. 3. Tap, then tap Delete. 25
TROUBLESHOOTING iphone, ipad or ipod will not recognize the LINK device. Try closing the app, clearing any running apps, then re-opening it. Try restarting your iphone, ipad or ipod. I forgot my password to the securefolder. Enter the answer to your security question. If you forget both the password and answer to the security question, files in the securefolder are not accessible. My Imation LINK App keeps crashing. Make sure your LINK device is securely in place. Uninstall, then reinstall the app. Note: This will erase all files stored in the LINK App folder. Camera Roll is not affected. I cannot get a file to play or open. The file may be corrupt or damaged. If you have just tried transferring the file, try transferring the file again. The file may be encrypted. See Accessing encrypted files for more information. The file format may not be supported. Go to support.imation.com for a list of supported file types. 26
