Working at Airbus What to expect

Most roles will be working within a busy production environment. However, we also recruit to a number of other support positions including office based roles. Below we have created some job profiles to show you what to expect when working at Airbus: - Production Areas Before being placed on the shop floor you will be allocated a training programme for up to 12 weeks. This training is carried out at the on-site training facility and covers areas such as health & safety, standard operations and interpreting Airbus drawings. Following this period of training you will be allocated to an area within the factory e.g. A380, A350 and placed on a specific shift pattern (see later section for shift pattern information). Once you are placed in the factory you must attend the pre-shift meeting where your Airbus Process Manager or Team Coordinator assigns the work packages for the day. (All production operations are split into work packages with varying time limits; you will receive full training before being expected to carry out these operations). For your first few weeks on the shop floor you will be paired up with an experienced Operator who will be on hand to answer questions and to supervise your work. All shop floor operators are required to attend a 1A and 1B quality course, at the end of which you will be able to self-certify that your work has been completed to the required Airbus quality standards. Until you have passed your 1A and 1B quality course your work will be checked by someone else. With manufacturing operations being carried out, the shop floor is obviously a noisy environment and hearing protection must be worn at all times, except on the safe walkways. The nature of the work is physical and repetitive and you may find yourself carrying out the same operation for a considerable period of time. If you are required to work in the wing tanks you may find yourself having to carry out production processes whilst in an awkward body position. For this reason regular posture breaks must be taken. Office Areas You will be working in an office alongside Airbus core employees, reporting to your Airbus Task Manager on a day-to-day basis. You will be provided with an Airbus network and email account together with access to any specialist systems required to carry out your job. Depending upon your role, you may be required to travel to other Airbus sites and/or supplier sites, both domestically and abroad.

Probationary reviews You will be subject to a probationary period of 12 months, during which you will be required to complete probationary reviews of your performance with your Airbus Task Manager at 6 and 9 month intervals. This provides an opportunity for you to discuss your performance and identify any areas for development. White collar employees also have the option of an annual performance and objectives review, during which they can discuss their professional development plans with their manager and Blue Arrow HR representative. Working Hours Depending on the shift pattern you work, the normal working week is 35 hours. Below is a summary of the most popular shifts and working times: - Shift Pattern Start Time End Time Weekly Hours Days 07:45 16:00 (11:45 Friday) 35 Double Days* 06:00/13:30 (13:10 13:10/20:40 (20:20 35 Friday) Friday) Nights (Mon- Thurs) 20:45 06:00 35 * Double Day shift alternates weekly; you work one week of earlies followed by one week of lates. Pay All production operatives are paid at the same rate as their Airbus counterparts, however for your first 12 weeks of employment you are paid a training rate of: - Skilled 20,481.12 gross per annum Semi-skilled 17,548.22 gross per annum Following the successful completion of your 12-week training period your salary will increase to the normal rate of: - Skilled 25,601.40 gross per annum Semi-skilled 21,935.28 gross per annum All office-based staff are paid according to the Airbus grading for the position and are not subject to the 12-week training rate. Overtime You will be required to work overtime when necessary; however this is limited to no more than 13 hours per week.

Holidays In a full leave year (1st January to 31st December) a full-time employee is entitled to 175 hours annual leave, plus 8 bank holidays. If your employment commences part way through the holiday cycle, then your holiday entitlement shall be calculated on a pro-rata basis. The client operates fixed holiday periods (shutdown), currently for two weeks in the summer and three days between Christmas and New Year. These dates will be communicated to you upon commencement and must be taken as part of your holiday entitlement. In addition, you will get an additional shift off prior to Christmas. This shift will not be part of your floating entitlement but will be determined (fixed) by the client. The client will announce the fixed date prior to Christmas at the start of the holiday year this will be communicated to you via your payslip. This shift will be paid at normal holiday rate. Pension As part of the wide range of benefits of working with Blue Arrow we are pleased to offer our workforce access to an excellent stakeholder pension plan via our retained Independent Financial Advisors Edgar Brooks & Co. and administered by Standard Life. Uniform All shop floor staff will be supplied with uniform as well as Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). For office based staff uniform is not required, however employees are expected to wear smart clothing. Parking There are several free car parks around the site. For some of these you will need a car park pass. You will be advised as to the nearest available parking to your work area. Blue Arrow Benefits Blue Arrow operate a scheme called My Benefits which offers not only great savings on high street shopping, holidays and leisure activities but will also give you peace of mind against loss of income as a result of an accident at work, whilst you are on assignment with Blue Arrow. My Benefits also includes a personal hospital plan which covers you 24/7 in the UK or abroad whilst on assignment or during a paid holiday.

Childcare vouchers Blue Arrow employees working at Airbus can join a salary sacrifice scheme to save them money on childcare costs. Airbus sports and social club As a Blue Arrow employee working at Airbus you are eligible to join the Airbus sports and social club and/or gym for a very reasonable monthly fee. This gives you access to watch live bands and entertainment, a function room for hire, as well as the health and fitness suite. Discount with Vauxhall As a Blue Arrow employee working at Airbus you are eligible for discounts with Lookers in Chester, details of which are announced periodically. Trade Union representation You can request Trade Union representation through the UNITE office in Flint, who offer a variety of benefits to members upon joining.
