Task Card Ideas 1. Science Center Independent Work 2. Memory Game Small Group or Large Group 3. Whole Group Game (SCATTER) Give half of the students a definition card and half a word answer card. Students must mingle around the room to find their correct partner. This encourages content discussions. 4. Use cards with basic game boards. Student may move game piece when question is answered correctly. 5. Interactive Bulletin Board Hang question cards on bulletin board. Students record answers in their science journals during designated transition times. 6. Use cards for a game of Jeopardy. 7. Task Card Bingo When a card is answered correctly, student may place an X or O. 8. Create a word wall with the word cards. 9. Students record answers moving to the next card when a designated sound or motion cues the movement. (SCOOT) 1. Be creative! Allow your students to create game ideas! 3

Water Cycle Task Cards rain, snow, sleet, dew, etc., formed by condensation of water vapor in the atmosphere 1 4

a dispersion, in air, of molecules of water, especially as produced by evaporation at ambient temperatures rather than by boiling 2 Water Cycle the change of the physical state of matter from gaseous phase into liquid phase, and is the reverse of vaporization 3 5

the passage of gases through fine tubes because of differences in pressure or temperature 4 Water Cycle rain water that flows over mountains, hills, and plains as well and with it it takes rocks and other small sediments into a lake or river 5 6

underground water that is held in the soil and in pervious rocks 6 Water Cycle natural water that has not penetrated much below the surface of the ground 7 7

Top 2 Uses for Task Cards by Shelly Anton www.teacherspayteachers.com/store/promoting-success

1. Independent Center Work 2. Memory Game If your game doesn t come with answer cards, create them on index cards. Lay the question cards and answer cards face down to play a memory (concentration) game. Great for small groups. 3. Whole Group Game (SCATTER) Give half of the students a definition card and half an answer card. Students must scatter (mingle) around the room to find their correct partner. This encourages content-rich discussions. Top 2 Uses for Task Cards Teacher Tip: Brain research supports the connection between movement and learning. Evidence from imaging sources, anatomical studies, and clinical data shows that moderate movement enhances cognitive processing. Task cards offer an easy way to allow movement in the classroom while increasing student achievement! 4. Use cards with basic board games or other games. Student may move game piece when question is answered correctly. (Battleship, Chutes 7 Ladders, Don t Break the Ice, etc.) 5. Interactive Bulletin Board Hang question cards on bulletin board. Students record answers in their content area journals during designated transition times. 6. Use cards for a game of Jeopardy or similar quiz show game. 7. Tic Tac Toe When a task card is answered correctly, the student may place an X or O. Tape a tic-tac-toe board on the floor. Students toss bean bags when a question is answered correctly. 8. Create a word wall with the answer cards. 9. Hang task cards along a wall or set one on each desk. Students record answers moving to the next card when a designated sound or motion cues the movement. (SCOOT) 1. May be used repeated practice or for differentiated instruction. Students may be given fewer cards to complete or complete only the odds or evens. Task cards replace worksheets!

Top 2 Uses for Task Cards Cont.- 11. Send task cards home for a purposeful homework activity. 12. Task cards my be used as a formative assessment to guide instruction. 13. Play ANSWERS UP game. Designated student reads a question card. Students record answers on small chalk board or white board. Students show answers when designated students says, Answers up! 14. Transition or Morning Activity (Bell Work) Display one task card each day for students to record answers. 14. Place task cards in plastic eggs or small boxes. Students find boxes and record answers. 15. Use task cards as flashcards with partners or small groups. 16. Use as extra reinforcement for students who complete work early. 17. Create a scavenger hunt. Hide the question cards around the room. Give each student an answer card. They must find the correct question to match their answer. 18. Have students create their own task cards after completing a research project or unit study. 19. Be creative! Allow your students to create game ideas! Notes:
