Barbara Fritchie Restaurant Serving Frederick since 1910 Welcome To the Barbara Fritchie Restaurant, Which Was Founded in 1910 by Ammon E. Cramer as Barbara Fritchie Chocolates, Originally Located Across from the Barbara Fritchie Museum at 154 W. Patrick Street. In the 1940's, Cramer Opened the Barbara Fritchie Restaurant and Candy Factory on Route 355 in Two Large Quonset Huts. Then on October 13,1959 They Broke Ground on the Current Location and Opened in 1960,still Making Their Own Candies. There Are No Longer Barbara Fritchie Candies Made, but the 35 Foot Tall Steel Candy Cane Standsout Front Today as a Frederick Landmark. Barbara Fritchie Became Famous by the John Greenleaf Whittier Poem, Where He Describes Her Flying the Flag in Defiance of Confederate Troops Marching down Patrick Street. "Shoot, If You Must, this Old Gray Head, but Spare Your Country's Flag", She Said. That Same Patriotic Spirit Can Still Be Seen Today by All the Flag Displays.
