This articles focuses on how to get music onto your ipad and covers the following: Rip a CD. Digitise all your music CD collection and organise it in itunes. Move songs on and off the ipad which can either be your whole music catalogue or playlists of selected songs. Purchase music from the itunes Store.This can be done in ITunes on a computer or directly on your ipad using the itunes app. Music is played back in the Music app. Purchased music is automatically added to itunes on your computer and is also available from the Purchased Tab in the itunes app on your ipad. Purchase music from the Google Play Store. You don't need to have an Android device to take advantage of Google Play. Your itunes library can be uploaded to your Google account and streamed from a browser on your ipad (or computer) or an app like CloudPlay for Google music. On your ipad, download songs from a free music site eg Last.Fm using an app like Mp3 Music Downloader. There are many music downloader apps in the App Store - do a search. Convert a Youtube video. Rip the mp3 track from a music video on Youtube - using the website youtube-mp3.org. do this from your computer and you can add the mp3 file to itunes and then sync it across to your ipad. Add music directly from your ipad -using youtube-mp3.org and Goodreader, Last.fm and mp3 music downloader. You can then export the file to a Cloud service like Dropbox, an external network attached storage or other server. You can play mp3 files dowloaded on your ipad in the inbuilt audio players of the apps - not in the Music app. How to get music onto the ipad - 1

Rip a CD All those CD's that you have collected over the years can now be converted into a digital format and copied over to your ipad. You need itunes to perform this function although you can also find third party software to do the same thing. Download itunes - Windows or MAC. From the Preferences menu, select the General tab and select one of the options under "When I insert a CD". There are also import settings to change the quality of the digital track. This process is called 'ripping'. Once your tracks have been digitised, they will be saved into the Music library of itunes. See the video: Configure the settings and preference in itunes 11. The Advanced preference pane is where you can change the location of your itunes library. Eg; store all your itunes media on an external hard drive instead of your computer's hard drive. Create a playlist in itunes. A playlist is a selection of custom-ordered songs created in itunes For instance, if you wanted to just hear every version of "The House of the Rising Sun" that you have in your itunes library, no matter what artist performed the song, you could create a playlist for this and then listen to those versions in order. You could also create a playlist of Christmas songs, or love songs, or movie soundtracks. Playlists can be created from any audio content in itunes and given whatever order of playback you want. you copy the playlist to your ipad when you sync the computer and the ipad. Insert the CD into your computer to start ripping 1. Insert a music CD into your computer s media drive. By default, itunes will launch, the CD s name will appear in itunes Source list and be selected, and the CD s track names will appear in itunes main window. If the CD s track names don t appear it either means that your computer isn t able to communicate via the Internet (which is how itunes obtains album, artist, and track names) or the CD is one that s not recognised by itunes (a mix tape CD a friend has created, for example). For those CDs that don t have track names automatically added, you can click on individual titles and add names manually. 2. Also, by default, a window appears that reads: Would you like to import the CD name of CD into your itunes library? Click Yes to import all the individual tracks on the CD or No if you d prefer to not import the tracks at all (or do it at another time). If you click No and later wish to import the tracks from the CD, select the CD in itunes Source list and at the bottom-right of the itunes window click on the Import CD entry. itunes will begin ripping the CD and adding the tracks to the itunes library. 3, If you d like itunes to rip just selected tracks, uncheck the tracks that you don t want to rip. Purchase music from the itunes store This can be done using the itunes app on your ipad or from accessing the itunes store in itunes on your computer. How to get music onto the ipad - 6

The itunes app on the ipad 1. Select the Music Tab. 2. There are Genres of music to filter your search or a more specific search for a song, artist, group, genre. (3) 4. Top Charts is another way of filtering songs, Albums and Artists. 5. The Purchased Tab provides access to all media you have bought from the itunes store - music, movies, books and TV shows. You can always download again any prior purchase if you delete it from your ipad. How to get music onto the ipad - 7

Purchase music from the Google Play Store You need a Google account and then sign up for Google Play. Select the Music tab. The Google Play store has music you can purchase and store in your itunes library. Whilst the Play store is predominately for Android devices, it is still useful for the ipad and other ios devices. Google Play helps you bring your itunes library to your Android devices. You can upload up to 20,000 of your songs from your computer to Google Play for free. Once you ve uploaded your music, it's instantly available on the web and your Android phone or tablet. There is now an ipad app to play Google Play music. Download it from the App Store: CloudPlay. See more in the section: Storing your music. To buy music from the Google Play store, you need to set up a Google Wallet. This will require a credit card or debit card. There are no gift cards available in Australia for Google Play. If you are concerned about providing a credit card or you don't have one, obtain a pre-paid Visa card from Australia Post - Load and Go prepaid reloadable Visa card. A Google Play purchase The purchased music is located in your Google Play library - online. You can listen online in your browser, via a Google Play app from the App Store. You can also upload your entire music collection (up to 20,000 songs for the free access) from itunes. to keep your music collection in itunes up to date, you can download the songs you purchase in the Google Play Store to your computer. Google Play Music Manager The Google Music Manager is a program you download and install on your computer. It allows to upload and download your music. So, you could download the songs you purchase from the Google Play store and drag them into your itunes library to keep that up to date. Google Play Music Manager - MAC version You can select the Upload button to upload all your existing music to your Google Play account (Remember: you can upload 20,000 songs in the free version). Advanced Tab Download music from the internet - Convert a Youtube video You can download music from the internet - either directly from the browser on your computer or using an app like mp3 music downloader or Goodreader on your ipad. Convert the video to an mp3 - using a computer In your browser, go to youtube-mp3.org and paste in the Youtube URL. Then click: Convert Video. Click the download link and save the mp3 file to your hard drive - then drag it into itunes to add it to your itunes library. How to get music onto the ipad - 13

Convert a video to an mp3 - using your ipad This step uses the following apps on your ipad: Youtube and Goodreader. Download and install them if you need to. 1. In Youtube, search for a video and then tap the Sharing button and select: Copy Link. 2. Open Goodreader, Select: Browse the Web and enter the address: youtube-mp3.org. Tap Go on the keyboard. Paste your Youtube link and tap: Convert Video. Tap the download link when the video is converted. Tap: Download Linked File. The downloaded file will be located in your Downloads folder in Goodreader. How to get music onto the ipad - 15

As an example, let's upload the mp3 to Dropbox. 1. Select: Manage files 2. Select the song (s) you want to upload. 3. Tap: Upload 4. Tap the server you want to upoload the file to - in this case, Dropbox. Syncing music When you first connect your ipad to your computer, Apple guides you through the setup, but at some point you will want to be familiar with the options available to you when syncing itunes on ipad, which is basically the only way you manage most of your ipad s contents, including music, contacts, photos, apps, and ebooks, and keeping it updated. Syncing. A definition. "Sync" is short for synchronise. When you sync a device, such as a phone or ipad you synchronise it with data on your computer. This is typically done by connecting the device to your computer via a USB connection. For example, you might sync songs, videos, and other data using Apple itunes. When you sync a device with your computer, it typically updates both the device and the computer with the most recent information. It will also remove entries that have been deleted on either the device or the computer since the last sync. of managing your music collection on your computer and syncing all of your library or selected songs, playlists, artists and genres to your ipad. It all depends on how much space you have on your ipad. Download music using an app on your ipad: mp3 Music Downloader This is a free ipad app - so it is ad supported. You can download music from any free music site. It also has a browser so you could also convert the youtube video to an mp3 instead of using Goodreader. The Home page provides some instructions on how to use the app as well as links to some free music sites and free audiobooks. You can create playlists, move songs, play songs. The only problem is that, (as far as I can see), there is no way to get the downloaded music out of the app and onto your computer. Goodreader, on the other hand, whilst it's not a dedicated music player, can still do everything mp3 music downloader can do. The difference is that Goodreader can export files to a range of servers and cloud services. You can therefore maintain your music library on your computer and upload your music to Google Play.
