CELEBRATE 60 YEARS WITH BREKKE TOURS! It has been a privilege to be a part of the world of travel for the last six decades! There have been many changes; however, the joy of introducing our clients to foreign travel, and in many cases, connecting them to their heritage, remains the same. As we reflect on the past and look toward the future, we extend a sincere thank you to our faithful and loyal supporters, as well as our travel partners and dedicated staff! Our continued emphasis of quality, creativity and Scandinavian expertise was recognized in 2015 when Hurtigruten (the Norwegian Coastal Voyage ) presented Brekke Tours with its award for Inspiring Partner of the Year for North America. Brekke Tours looks to a future of continued excellence in service to its clients. If you have Scandinavia on your mind, we invite you to consider participating in one of our escorted tours. Based on experience and careful planning, Brekke Tours offers a variety of itineraries focusing on various regions and/or themes. In addition to breathtaking scenes of natural beauty, sights and activities are included in our packages which will provide insight into the local culture. Our tour directors will also share extensive information to enhance and enrich your journey. With our focus on connecting families to their heritage, the new 2016 itinerary, Norwegian Family Adventure, is ideal for introducing your children and/or grandchildren to Norway. For those who prefer to travel with a more intimate group, please note the tour departures designated as small group tours. If you are interested in promoting a tour to your family, group or organization, please contact our office for assistance in designing an itinerary based on the needs of your group, be it a family reunion, a specific area of heritage or a particular theme. If you are looking for a worry-free vacation with an educational focus, please join us as we explore Scandinavia in 2016! A LOOK BACK... Brekke Tours traces its origin to 1956 when Arne, a student from Norway, organized his first tour to Europe for his students, while serving as head of the Norwegian Department at Luther College, Decorah, IA. This activity continued while studying for his PH.D in the field of comparative Germanic and Indo-European languages at the University of Chicago. Arne s position as Associate Professor at the University of North Dakota increased his focus on cultural bridge-building with Scandinavia. In recognition of his work to foster connections between the people of Norwegian ancestry and their homeland, Arne was awarded the St. Olav Medal from the Norwegian Government in 1977. Collaboration with Sons of Norway and Norwegian Bygdelag groups continued to expand interest in travel to Norway and beyond. The business eventually introduced large numbers of Scandinavian-Americans to their areas of heritage. A variety of specialinterest groups originating in Scandinavia created a need for westbound tours. In addition to helping Scandinavian- Americans travel back to the lands of their ancestors, Arne helped the Chester Fritz Library at UND to establish a collection of bygdebøker (books on Norwegian local history and genealogy). This collection is now approaching 1600 volumes and covers practically all of Norway. For more information about the Arne G. Brekke Bygdebok Collection, please visit: library. und.edu/special-collections/bygdebok/. If you would like help with researching your family s history, please contact our office. Air Transportation Price is based on scheduled transportation in economy class and nonrefundable airfare on one of our preferred airline partners (if requesting a specific carrier, an additional charge may apply) from the city specified in the itinerary. The tour package price reflects airfare currently in effect & is subject to change until ticketed. Inquire about airfare options from your home city. Passengers coming from different cities, booked or deposited at different times, may be booked on alternate routings/different flights. Passengers are responsible for charges due to delays on domestic flights (purchased as separate tickets) in connection with an international flight. If using frequent flyer miles, participants must book directly with the carrier. Purchase of domestic ticket to connect with international flight: It is recommended that you do not purchase airline tickets until the land portion of your tour is guaranteed to operate. If booking a domestic flight to connect with the trans-atlantic flight, an overnight (at least for eastbound travel) or an early flight (with at least one backup flight available) is recommended. Also note: Carriers will not necessarily allow passengers to check bags through to the final destination with multiple tickets. Thus passengers will only be able to check the bag to the destination on the first ticket(s). The passenger must collect the baggage at baggage claim for their first ticketed destination, and then re-check their baggage with the down-line carrier for the next flight. Various baggage restrictions may also apply subject to carrier guidelines. Brekke Tours is not responsible for: any costs/fees relating to airline delays, rescheduling or cancellation. Fuel Surcharges and Taxes Your initial billing will include the current estimated charge based on your flight itinerary. Final charges for fuel and taxes will be assessed in your statement prior to final payment. Land Costs The tour price is based on a minimum of 20 participants for small group tours and 30 participants for other tours. The trip will be feasible with fewer than the minimum, but if the minimum number of participants is not reached, the price may increase or services may be modified to accommodate a smaller group. All rates are based on tariffs in effect at the time the tour was planned and are subject to increase in the event of currency fluctuation. Land Transportation First-class private motorcoach. Other transportation and/or accommodations as indicated. Luggage Size and weight limitations for carry-on and checked baggage on international, inter-european flights and domestic flights vary from airline to airline and are subject to change, so please check with the applicable carrier prior to departure. On the land portion, due to limited motorcoach capacity, we allow only 1 suitcase and 1 carry-on per person. Luggage handling at hotels for 1 suitcase is provided. Airport porterage is not included as security regulations require that travelers handle and be responsible for their own luggage. No responsibility is accepted for loss of or damage to baggage or any of the traveler s belongings. Baggage insurance is recommended. Special Requests Special hotel and flight requests, such as double bed, room near elevator, room on lower floor, meals, seating on aircraft, etc., should be submitted in writing with final payment. Such requests, however, are outside of our control and therefore cannot be guaranteed. Please note: A quote does not constitute a reservation.
