Voice over IP Applicatio Note Overview Voice traffic is typically routed over a dedicated lie. The Hypercom voice over IP (VoIP) solutio trasmits voice over the low-cost Iteret versus a more expesive dedicated lie. May Iteret service providers (ISPs) are available, over 2600 today. VoIP is a router-based ifrastructure ad provides the potetial of cosolidatig voice ad data traffic. IP telephoy applicatios are: Phoe-to-Phoe, or Voice Gateway Operatio: These applicatios route calls over a Frame Relay or IP, use a compressed packetized voice chael, ad provide echo cacellatio. Fax-to-Fax, or Fax Gateway Operatio: These applicatios route fax over a Frame Relay or IP ad provide termiatio for fax modems of 2400 bps to 14.4 Kbps. Phoe-to-PC, or Gateway Operatio: These applicatios covert IP voice packets for trasmittio over Legacy telephoe etworks. Voice over IP Applicatio Note Network Maagemet IENView is the etwork maagemet tool from Hypercom that is used to cofigure ad moitor the VoIP process. IENView is a GUI-based applicatio that rus i Widows 9X ad NT eviromets. The cofiguratio maagemet icludes automatic route discovery, detailed port cofiguratio, ad call pla cofiguratio. Digit traslatio, a dialed-digit isertio ad removal feature that is similar to a PBX, is part of call routig. Routig cofiguratio ad TDM bus assigmets are simplified with the use of voice mappig. Call accoutig records are ow captured, icludig start time, ed time, ad duratio of each call. The call records ca be set to exteral Statio Message Detail Record (SMDR) locatios or priters o the etwork. Statistical moitorig icludes truk use ad use. The problem maagemet features iclude error logs, lik status, call trackig, error statistics, ad etwork maps. Diagostics have bee improved with the availability of call evet tracig. A call pla cotais a directory of all voice resources withi a etwork ad defies how calls are routed. A call cotroller i each ode directs outgoig calls based o the iformatio stored i the call pla. A call pla maages voice call routig i a Hypercom etwork. The call pla cotais logic that dyamically lears the most frequetly used prefixes. Wheever a ew statio umber is added to the etwork, the umber is automatically leared, which dramatically reduces the umber of times a call pla must be loaded ito a etwork. Depedig o the call selectio, a call ca begi as either digital or aalog voice ad be completed as digital or aalog voice. Digital voice is received from a PBX, compressed, the set over the IP etwork to the receivig ode. Aalog voice is received from a PBX or hadset, digitized, compressed, the set over the IP etwork. The receivig call cotroller directs the compressed voice to the correct voice compressio resource defied i the call pla.
