Asl, Undergrdute Coordintor, Burson 220, ksl@uncc.edu Progrm Requirements: The Deprtment of Chemistry offers two BS degree progrms pproved by the Americn Chemicl Society (ACS) nd two non-acs-certified BS degree progrms, which provide the bckground necessry for creer in industry or for grdute studies in chemistry nd relted fields. In ddition, BA degree in chemistry is vilble for students who pln to pursue creer in chemicl industry, secondry eduction, or professionl studies in res such s phrmcy nd optometry. Degree requirements for the BS, BA, nd BS + MS degree progrms re vilble online. A minimum chemistry GPA of 2.0 is required in the BS nd BA degree progrms. The BS degree is very structured nd the BA degree is reltively structured. Credit Hours Chemistry 32-48 hours Hours depend on degree nd concentrtion. Required courses in the mjor will count towrds university Generl Eduction requirements for Nturl Sciences, Orl Communictions nd Writing Intensive in the Mjor requirement. Required courses in the relted work will count towrds university Generl Eduction requirements for Mthemtics. Generl Eduction* Relted Work Foreign Lnguge 21-24 hours Hours do not include those requirements which re stisfied within the mjor. Trnsfer students with n ssocite s degree re exempt from most Generl Eduction, but must complete Writing Intensive in the Mjor requirement. 14-20 hours Mthemtics nd Physics courses My be stisfied by second mjor or minor. Consult with n dvisor. 0-8 hours Must demonstrte competence t the 1202 level in lnguge in non- Romn lphbet; competence cn be demonstrted by trnsfer courses, plcement exm, or courses t UNC Chrlotte. Electives 20-53 hours As needed to complete 120 hours totl. * The stndrd Generl Eduction requirements consist of 43 credit hours. However, in virtully ll cses students tke courses tht re required for the mjor or relted work in the mjor tht lso fulfill Gen Ed requirements. This block therefore lists Gen Ed hours students will hve to tke in ddition to the required courses in the mjor.
