Interactive Whiteboard Training

Covering Using the IWB? What tools are available for IWB? How can we create stimulating tasks easily? How can we work with images? What resources are there? Using multimedia, is it good? What is Triptico, how can it help?

IWB s Interactive White Boards (IWB s) are used in a multitude of different ways to enhance the learning environment of children and young adults. The needs of those differ slightly over the spectrum. Nevertheless, interactive use of video and audio provides a great platform to base an engaging experience

Great, so how do I use one? Boards should only ever been drawn on lightly using the SUPPLIED Smartboard pens found in the cradle beneath the board Do NOT use any other type of pen to draw on board and never stick anything to its surface. Operating the board by touch is common, use the same pressure as if you were pushing down a key on a keyboard to interact

Common interactive problems HELP: I m drawing but the ink is appearing elsewhere??!! This usually means that the board has lost its orientation. This is easily sorted and can be done by you. With all the pens seated in the cradle, press down both the buttons on the cradle and hold for 3 seconds

You now have a page that looks like this Pick up one of the pens and press the targets. Each target should make a confirmation ping once pressed. If you go wayward of the target, don t worry press the Esc key on your keyboard and start the process again

Lets practice that

Common interactive problems HELP: I m drawing but my pens keep changing colour or things keep jumping about and clicking by themselves??!! Don t Worry, its not a ghost! You need to lift all the pens out of the cradle and make sure there is no dust or foreign matter in each of the pen seats little eyes. Make sure there is nothing else touching the screen-paper resting on it etc.

Common interactive problems HELP: I m only seeing a blue or black screen projected and my computer is not displayed on board??!! The most likely thing that has happened is that your projector has switched source input. To remedy this, simply switch projector off and then back on again. You can also press source and select PC/Computer and select as input

Common interactive problems HELP: My interactive whiteboard is NOT interactive??!! You will need to manually start the whiteboard service sometimes. This is easy to do. Click on the start orb and select Control Panel, then select SMART board. This will bring up the SMART panel, then select Connection Wizard and follow instructions

Lets practice that

I can fix the problems Now you know how to fix the common issues when operating your IWB. Now there are two modes of operating the inking; using Notebook software installed on your computer or using the Ink layers

Notebook software Your SMART Notebook will look like this. These are the basic commands which we will go through now

Adding content? Hyperlinks Video Audio Pictures

What else can I do?

Did you notice that little bar on the side? Change Pen Colour Highlight on-screen Erase any content drawn Right click ability by tapping on IWB Open SMART Notebook software Display an on-screen keyboard Undo any changes These options can be customised By clicking the cog

That s covered Now for multimedia! Hyper-link to content Drag & drop content directly Create content and then export

Lets practice that

Triptico Create interactive content Lists Word magnets Timers Student selection games Some based on popular game shows

Recap Never stare directly into the beam Never attempt to adjust any of the settings on the projector using remote Never use excessive force through pens on board Never stick items or use normal writing implements on the IWB s

Always contact IT Support if you have an issue e-mail: itsupport@sidmouthcollege.devon.sch.uk Tel: x333 Always make sure you take care of your board Always make sure all the pens and the rubber are correctly positioned Always stand slightly to one side of the board when teaching, this improves visibility for pupils and protects your eyes from bulb glare
