2 When you first enter a classroom, you ll most likely want to start by turning on the projector and projecting your computer desktop. You can switch to another source to project if desired. Please take the following steps to get started. Step 1: Turn on the projector a. Locate the projector remote b. Hold down the POWER or ON button for 3 5 seconds c. The projector will warm up and project in about 20 seconds Step 2: Start projecting the computer desktop a. Make sure the computer is powered on. Example of a projector remote control b. If you don t see the computer desktop on the projector screen, press the SOURCE button on the projector remote repeatedly until you see your computer desktop projected on the big screen. c. If there is no SOURCE button on the remote or the SOURCE button doesn t work, try step 2b with either the RGB, SOURCE, or COMPUTER 1 button on the remote until you see the computer s desktop projected on the screen. Step 3: Choose your source to project a. Locate the switch box either on top of the instructor station or in the cabinet below the instructor s station. b. The switch box will have several switches that are labeled with the sources you wish to project. You will have all or some of the following: CPU (computer); VCR (or VCD/DVD); or Document Camera. c. On the switch box, press the button of the source that you wish to use and then use the controls on that that source to play your media. * Note that sometimes the DVD/VCR player and other components will have their own remote control *

3 Hardware Every classroom should have some or all of the following hardware available for instructional use. Projector The projector will project one of the following sources computer desktop, VCR, document camera on the main screen in the front of the room. To turn on the projector, point the projector remote at the projector or screen and press the POWER or ON button for approximately 3 seconds If you do not see your computer s desktop on the projector screen, try pressing either the SOURCE, RGB, COMPUTER 1 or VIDEO button on the projector remote repeatedly to cycle through the different available sources until your desired source appears on the screen. Computer The computer s desktop can be projected on the main screen in the front of the room. It can be used to display web based resources, presentation software (i.e. PowerPoint), DVD s, CD audio, and almost anything that can be viewed on the computer s desktop. Locate the switch box (if one is present) and choose computer as your source Internal Computer CD/DVD player If playing a CD or a DVD from the computer, both the projector and the computer must be powered on. Volume for the computer can be adjusted by: a. increasing the volume on the amplifier box (if present) b. adjusting volume on the desktop speakers (if present) c. adjusting the computer s master volume (see page X) VCR or VCR/DVD Player To use the VCR or VCR/DVD player: 1. Power on the projector and the VCR or VCR/DVD player 2. Locate the switch box (if one is present) and choose VCR as your source 3. Power on the amplifier (if one is present) 4. Insert VCR tape or DVD into the player 5. Press the SOURCE, RGB or VIDEO button on the projector remote control until the VCR/DVD displays on the main projector screen 6. Volume can be controlled by adjusting the INPUT 1 or INPUT 2 volume dial on the sound amplifier.

4 Document Camera The document camera is to a tool that allows the presenter to project printed materials, objects, and transparencies on the main projector screen. Before proceeding, make sure you: power on the document camera before opening any software. place your document or item on the flat surface face-up in the middle of the camera. There are two different ways to start the document camera, depending on which type is in your classroom. 1. Look for an icon on your computer desktop entitled SDP 950 or SDP Viewer. If you find one of these icons, double-click it to start the document camera. The document camera displays the image through the computer desktop, so make sure that the computer is selected as the source. The display must be set to 1024px X 768px or higher!! 2. If you see no software icons for SDP 950 or SDP Viewer: locate the switch box and choose Document camera if it is one of the choices. If you still don t see the document camera on the projector, press SOURCE, RGB, COMPUTER 1 or VIDEO on the projector remote control until your item displays on the projector screen. SMARTBOARD A SMARTBOARD is an interactive whiteboard where your finger is like the mouse and the SMARTBOARD is like the computer. On a basic level with a SMARTBOARD you can: Interact with web sites and programs directly on the SMARTBOARD Make notes on other programs/applications (Web, Word, PowerPoint) to save for later Write and save lecture notes as you would on a whiteboard, save them, and make them available to students at a later time Much more! Please contact Carl Jones at (217) or carl.jones@llcc.edu for additional training and ideas. To start your whiteboard: 1. Turn on your projector and get your computer desktop projecting. 2. Bring up the web site or program to use. Using your finger, you may now interact with the web site or program and carry out the same commands you would on the programs. Additionally, you can now use the SMARTBOARD markers to create and save digital notes you have made on computer programs or web sites.

5 Audio You will have either desktop speakers or speakers that are mounted on the wall or ceiling ofthe room. Most instructor stations also have a sound amplifier which must be powered on to hear sound from your sources. If you are having audio issues: Make sure your amplifier is powered on and sound is turned up. Make sure the sound on the computer is not muted (you ll know the sound is muted if the speaker icon on the taskbar has a red circle with a line through it. Enabling the computer s sound (by disabling mute) 1. Double click the speaker icon in the lower right hand corner on the computer s task bar. 2. Make sure the mute all and any other mute boxes are unchecked. 3. Adjust the slider bars on master volume and wave so that they are 1/2 to 3/4 of the way up. Note: If double clicking the speaker icon does not work, you may have to right click the icon and choose adjust audio properties. From the screen that appears, make sure that mute is NOT checked.

6 Devices Below are examples of the kinds of PROJECTOR remotes you may find in LLCC classroom. Please note the POWER, VIDEO, SOURCE, RGB buttons. RGB Video Power Video Power Source RGB Projectors must be turned off when you are finished!!! Hold down the POWER button for about 5 10 seconds, choose YES if prompted to do so, and then press ENTER or OFF on the remote. Some remotes require pushing the OFF button twice. Watch the screen and follow the commands if prompted to do so. Power An examples of a switch box that allows you to pick the source you want to project.
