Navigate to your CM_App folder on the CM hard drive and copy RICHTX32.OCX, then paste in C:\WINDOWS\SYSWOW64, or C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 if SYSWOW64 does not exist. 4. Please refer to page 16 of this guide, Apply Read/Write permissions to the CM hard drive. E. MS Office FileType Fix Says I must be an admin to run (Windows Vista / 7 / 8) 18

Click My Computer and navigate to CM hard drive > CM_App folder. 2. Right click on ftfix.exe and choose Run as administrator. F. How do I repair and compress my CM core database? Contact your Brigade POC or email JROTCcmhelp@gmail.com for help to repair and compress your database. G. Apache OpenOffice conflicts with MS Office Some computers are running OpenOffice instead of MS Office. The CM needs MS Office installed in order to view the lesson materials. Even after uninstalling OpenOffice problems persist and CM does not open documents correctly and MS Office File Fix utility does not seem to help. 1. After uninstalling OpenOffice you need to re-establish the file association to MS Office. 2. Hit Start-->Run and type the command-line switch below into the box and hit Enter (or click OK). Note that there is a space before the slash: a. For Word, type: winword /r b. For Excel, type: excel /regserver c. For PowerPoint, type: powerpnt /regserver d. General Firewall notes In order for the CM Tech support team to provide assistance via remote access, they will need to use the TeamViewer application. By default TeamViewer uses only the outgoing port 80 (HTTP) - no firewall configuration is necessary. Alternatively you can open port 5938 (TCP) for outgoing connections. 19

Computer Configuration and Setup Issues This section of the manual deals with errors that require installing or configuring software or hardware. If any of the following error messages display when you try to run the Curriculum Manager, then go to the section listed in the table for instructions on how to fix. This message displays when you first Launch the CM application or when you display a CPS slide or CPS Game Complete Step A (page 22) This message displays when you open a Keyword game from the Keyword slide in a presentation Complete Step B (page 23) This message displays when you display a slide that has Flash animation content embedded Complete Step C (page 24) 20

This message displays when you display a slide with Flash animation content embedded Complete Step D (page 26) This message displays when you try to open the CM Reporter or the CM Question Editor Complete Step E (page 26) This message displays after you have downloaded a CM Patch and the Update tries to run a Prelogin task Complete Step E (page 26) 21

A. CM v2 cannot find the CPS IR receiver while CPS work fine with the receiver If the CPS clickers do not work, it might be because the einstruction Device Manager is holding on to the IR receiver and not sharing with other programs. Fig. 19 Macro Settings 6. Click OK then close PowerPoint D. PowerPoint error Some controls on this presentation can t be activated When navigating to slides with flash content you get an error Some controls on this presentation can t be activated. They might not be registered on this computer. You must install the latest Flash plug-in to fix this. CM Startup menu >Required Plug-ins > install Flash under Adobe and follow the installation prompts. E. When I launch CM Reports and Question Editor or when there s a Pre-login task found I get an error The most common cause of this error on Windows XP and Vista is missing the.net framework 3.5 Service Pack 1. The.NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 can be downloaded from Microsoft. A link to that download is found under the CM Startup menu > Required Plug-ins. If the.net Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 is installed and you still have issues launching reports and question editor, your CM core database might need to be repaired and compressed. See page 19 for help. 26

F. Antivirus and internet security programs The preferred Antivirus program to use is McAfee which you can download from the JROTC Portal. Login to the Portal and then click on Automation>Download Center. AVG If you are using the AVG Antivirus program, it may cause CM to run slow; slides may take a long time to load. This happens because AVG actively scans each file (slide, document, audio, movie, etc ) as it is opened, which delays its display in CM. To resolve this issue: 1. Open AVG. 2. Open Link Scanner and turn off the settings. 3. Open Resident Shield and turn off the settings. Norton If you use the Norton Antivirus program, it may delete the CM Start menu (CM_Start.exe) off the CM drive. This happens when the new SONAR Norton component mistakenly identifies the startup menu as a security threat and removes it. To resolve this issue: 1. Restore the CM_Start.exe from Norton quarantine. 2. Make sure the box exclude from future scans is checked. G. Wireless Troubleshooting 1. Click on Start, then Control Panel Fig. 20 Control Panel 27

2. Click on System and Security, then Administrative Tools 3. Click on Services Fig. 21 System and Security Fig. 22 Services 28

4. Scroll down to WLAN AutoConfig Fig. 23 WLAN AutoConfig 5. Right Click WLAN AutoConfig, Click on Properties. Make sure Startup Type is set to Automatic (If not scroll to Automatic). Ensure Service Status is set to Started (If not click Start button) Click Apply and OK. Fig. 24 WLAN AutoConfig Properties 29

6. Right Click My Computer, Click on Properties Fig. 25 Properties 7. Click on Device Manager (Upper Left). Under Network Adaptors should show some type of Wireless card for your brand computer Fig. 26 Device Manager 30

8. Right click on card, Click on Properties. Ensure says device is enabled otherwise click Enable Device Fig. 27 Properties 9. If Wireless card is not present go to http://support.dell.com/. Click on Drivers and Downloads Fig. 28 Dell Support 31

10. Either enter Service Tag from bottom of computer or Click Select from List of Devices and select Model Fig. 29 Select Model 11. Select Network. Download file for Network Driver for Wi-Fi cards. Initial selection should include Wi-Fi utility Fig. 30 Download Files 32

12. Click Download and Install. The wireless utility and drivers will install and it will now show under device manager and will also be active for the respective computer. H. How do I safely remove the hard drive? 1. Double-click the Safely Remove Hardware icon in the Task Bar at the bottom right of your computer screen. Fig. 31 Safely Remove Hardware Icon 2. In the Safely Remove Hardware window, click USB Mass Storage Device, then click the Stop button. Fig. 32 Safely Remove Hardware Window 3. The Stop a Hardware device window appears. Click the USB Mass Storage Device then click OK. 33

Fig. 33 Stop a Hardware Device Window 4. The Safe To Remove Hardware message will appear indicating it is safe to remove your device. You may now disconnect the USB cable from the computer. I. USB Guidelines You can... Fig. 34 Safe To Remove Hardware Indicator NOTE: Always use the safe removal procedure for your operating system when disconnecting the drive. You can connect or disconnect the drive while the computer is on. You can optimize drive performance by disconnecting other USB devices when using your Iomega drive. The performance of all USB devices decreases as additional USB devices are connected. You can avoid some system lockups by waiting at least 30 seconds after connecting or disconnecting any USB device. Do not connect, disconnect, or use any other USB device during this time. 34

DO NOT... Do not connect or disconnect any USB device while the drive is transferring information. Data loss will result! Do not use USB extension cables with your CM drive. Data loss might result. Do not connect the drive to a hub; connect only to the computer. Do not connect USB and FireWire cables at the same time. J. Microsoft PowerPoint 2013 Issues Microsoft PowerPoint 2013 has a problem displaying slides with active content (videos, animations, etc.). Until Microsoft releases a fix for the PowerPoint 2013 we recommend installing Microsoft PowerPoint 2010 alongside PowerPoint 2013.
