We offer an exciting range of leisure and special interest programmes, as well as those designed to help you start or develop your career. From vehicle restoration to cookery, arts and craft to IT or accountancy to flower arranging - there s something for everyone. WHAT DO WE PROVIDE? Whether it s to develop new hobbies, improve academic and employability skills, meet likeminded enthusiasts or keep their minds and bodies active, learners return year after year to NHC for our: Flexibility: we run programmes during the day, in the evenings and at weekends. Location: our programmes are run at accessible and conveniently located venues. Expertise: programmes are delivered by engaging, professional staff with a wealth of experience. Support: you learn in an informal, supportive environment within modern, purpose-built facilities. Add-ons: additional learning activities can include gallery, museum visits and group meals. Affordability: our fees are competitively and realistically priced. PROGRAMMES Introductory programmes: these programmes are a great way of learning something totally new for fun or with a view to progressing to a qualification later on. Introductory programmes do not have exams, and most programmes run once per week. Leisure programmes: increase your understanding of a chosen subject for pleasure. These programmes do not have exams and most are run once per week. Qualifications: these are accredited programmes that lead to a qualification and are designed for people with some prior knowledge of a subject who wish to become proficient. BUSINESS Level 5 ILM coaching & mentoring 19/01/ 1,000 This programme will help you to gain a detailed understanding of the coaching role, the knowledge and skills required to implement a programme of coaching or mentoring for individual clients and the opportunity to put this into practice. CIPD foundation level March Programmes run on Thursdays, with daytime & evening options available 1,300 The foundation CIPD qualification provides practical skills development of the fundamental elements of HR. It is suitable for those considering entering the profession. CIPD qualifications are the only nationally and internationally recognised qualifications for the HR profession. CIPD intermediate level March Programmes run on Tuesdays, with daytime & evening options available 2,370 The intermediate CIPD qualification provides management and advisory skills development relating to the policies, practices and processes of HR. It is for you if you are already working in a related field and are seeking to develop to a business partner or HR manager role. CIPD qualifications are the only nationally and internationally recognised qualifications for the HR profession. AAT level 1 29th January This is an 8 week programme, Fridays 9am - 12pm 750 The level 1 AAT programme offers skills for entry level accounting roles. It gives you a solid introduction to accountancy and bookkeeping. AAT level 2 26th January This is a 25 week programme, Tuesday evenings 6pm - 9pm 1,800 The introductory certificate in accounting prepares you for junior and entry level accounting roles by giving you a solid foundation in finance administration - covering areas such as double entry bookkeeping and basic costing principles. To further develop your skills you can go on to study the intermediate and advanced programmes and achieve the AAT accounting qualification. The roles you are qualified to perform after completing this qualification include accounts administrator, accounts assistant and payroll officer. AAT level 3 This is a 35 week programme, Wednesday evenings 6pm - 9pm 2,000 Further enhance your skills and prepare for the next step in your career with our intermediate diploma in accounting. On this programme you ll master more complex financial processes, including final accounts for sole-traders and partnerships, costs and revenues and professional ethics. This programme is perfect for anyone interested in a career in bookkeeping, or who wants to go on to become a fully-qualified accountant. To further develop your skills you can go on to study the advanced programmes and achieve the AAT accounting qualification. The roles you are qualified to perform after completing this qualification include accounts assistant, accounts payable clerk and assistant accountant.
DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY & IT Level 1 IT award 1st March Six weeks Every Tuesday & Thursday 250 Discover how to use software packages including Word, Excel and PowerPoint and gain a qualification at the same time. Suitable for those with prior computing experience. Digital photography for beginners 2nd March 15 weeks If you are a budding photographer who would like to learn how to best capture a variety of subjects this programme guides you through the steps to take a great photograph. Digital photography next steps 29th February 10 weeks If you would like to further improve your photography abilities and explore different camera settings, this programme will help to advance your skills. Photoshop for beginners 1st March 15 weeks Learn to use Photoshop software to enhance and transform your images. Photoshop next steps 3rd March 15 weeks Learn to further techniques through Photoshop software to enhance and transform your images. CREATIVE Cut flowers for pleasure 4th February 10 week programme 100 This programme teaches you to arrange cut flowers in a range of styles including some wiring and gift wrap. No experience required. Traditional floral design level 1 5th May 15 week programme 225 On this programme you cover the basic theory and different traditional flower designs emphasising colour, line and texture. This enables you to create free standing floral designs for events. Dressmaking for beginners Nobel School 2nd March 15 week programme This programme is for those who are new to dressmaking. Learn how to use a sewing machine, and produce a garment from scratch. Dressmaking for improvers Nobel School 3rd March 15 week programme This programme is for those with prior dressmaking knowledge, who wish to extend and develop their skills further.
CULINARY Carry on cooking 21st April 15 week programme Thursdays & Fridays Discover and create delicious dishes from around world and improve your cooking skills. Cake decorating for beginners Nobel School 20th April 10 week programme 100 This programme provides an introduction to cake decorating, including the basics of icing and modelling. Cake decorating for improvers Nobel School 3rd February 5 week programme 50 Improve your cake decorating skills with this programme, where you create detailed flower work and edible cake toppers. Perfect for those with prior cake decorating knowledge who wish to develop their skills further. Indian cookery 1st February & 3rd February 10 week programme 100 This course provides an introduction to cooking fresh, authentic Indian dishes. This is a 10 week programme, with two separate programmes running; one on Mondays and one on Wednesdays. Mediterranean cookery 2nd February 10 week programme 100 This programme provides you with an introduction to Mediterranean cookery. You can discover the traditional flavours of the Mediterranean, using key ingredients such as olive oil, fresh vegetables and fruits, garlic and wine. Flavours of the Orient 4th February 10 week programme 100 This programme provides you with an introduction to the dishes of the Orient, whilst working in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. BRITISH SIGN LANGUAGE Introduction to BSL 28th January 10 week programme 100 British Sign Language (BSL) is a visual means of communicating using gestures, facial expression, and body language. BSL is used mainly by people who are deaf or have hearing impairments. This programme is a great means of introducing you to a second British language.
ELECTRICAL & CONSTRUCTION Electrical installation level 2 W/C 25th January 1,500 This qualification provides the essential knowledge and practical skills you need to start a career as an electrician*. This programme allows you to develop and practise practical skills. This is an evening programme, two three hour evenings per week for one year and one term. Site carpentry level 2 City & Guilds March 1,500 This CSkills qualification for carpenters covers the essential knowledge and practical skills required for you to move into the site carpentry industry.* This is an evening programme, two three hour evenings per week for one year and one term. Plumbing level 1 City & Guilds W/C 25th January Free for 16-18 1,500 for 19+ This programme provides the basic knowledge and practical skills required for you to begin your education in plumbing.* This is a full time programme, five days per week for six months. Electrical installation level 3 City & Guilds April 1,500 This programme covers the underpinning knowledge and practical skills required for students to move into the industry on the second stage towards becoming a qualified trades person*. This is an evening programme, two three hour evenings per week. Electrical installation level 2 City & Guilds April 1,500 This programme covers the underpinning knowledge and practical skills required for students to move into the industry on the second stage towards becoming a qualified trades person* Electrical installation level 3 City & Guilds NVQ W/C 25th January 2,000 This programme is for electricians who have completed the level 2 programme and are working as electricians who wish to gain the full level 3 NVQ. You must be working within the industry to gather evidence and build a portfolio of evidence. The cost of the programme pays for the AM2 3 day practical assessment. At the end of this programme, learners gain full professional tradesperson status. This is an evening programme with on-site assessment, five evenings and portfolio work. *learners will need to complete a level 3 qualification & NVQ at a later date for the full professional trade s person status
HEALTH & SOCIAL CARE Level 1 BTEC health & social care & April This programme is for you if you are considering a career in care and would like an introduction to the basics. This is a one year programme. Level 2 health & social care, or clinical healthcare & April 1,000 This vocational programme is for you if you have three to six months experience and wish to develop your skills in care or health care. It offers a first step to progress your career in the sector. This is a one year programme. Level 3 health & social care, or clinical healthcare & April 2,225 If you have one year or more of experience in the sector, or wish to develop into a more senior role, this vocational programme is for you. This is a one year programme. Level 1 Introduction to childcare & April This programme is for you if you are considering a career in early years and childcare. This is a four month programme. Level 2 early years or supporting teaching and learning in schools & April 1,000 This vocational programme is for you if you have three to six months experience and wish to develop your skills in either early years (0-5) or key stage 1 onwards. It offers a first step to progress your career in the sector. This is a one year programme. Level 3 supporting teaching and learning in schools & April 2,225 If you have one year or more of experience in the sector, or wish to develop into a more senior role, this vocational programme is for you. This is a one year programme. Level 3 early years educator & April 2,999 A 4-6 month study programme for those wishing to register with Ofsted as a childminder or nanny. Level 3 award in preparing to work in home-based childcare & April 200 This programme is for you if you are wishing to register with Ofsted as a childminder or nanny. This programme will last for four to six months. Paediactric first aid & April 75 Gain a qualification in paediatric first aid. Learn how to deal with accidents and emergencies involving young children and infants,
MOTOR VEHICLE & ENGINEERING Classic car restoration 7th January (evening) 11th January (morning) 350 This programme helps you to improve or gain skills in classic car restoration. You have the opportunity to metal finish small to medium dents, fabricate vehicle sill sections and wings, understand the principles of lead loading and develop skills in classic vehicle welding. The programme is delivered in the new practical workshop. This will be a one three hour session per week over 10 weeks. Classic car paint restoration 7th January 350 This programme helps you to improve or gain skills relevant to classic car paint refinishing. The programme consists of you having the opportunity to develop skills and knowledge in preparing classic car body shells for paint spraying. The programme is delivered in the new practical workshop using the latest vehicle spray booth technology. This is an evening programme, one three hour evenings per week, over ten weeks. Level 1 award in welding skills 6th January 450 The programme consists of you having the opportunity to study practically three independent welding qualifications awarded by EAL in level 1 M.I.G, T.I.G and M.M.A welding awards. The programme is delivered at the skills centre in the state of the art practical workshop. This is an evening programme, one three hour evenings per week over 10 weeks, and will run every Wednesday throughout the academic year, on a roll-on-roll-off programme. IMI level 1 diploma in vehicle maintenance & repair 25th January Free 16-19 19+ 1,500 This programme covers the underpinning knowledge and practical skills required for you to move into the industry. The programme develops your skills in vehicle servicing and maintaining vehicle components. This is a full time programme, that will run for five days per week for six months. IMI level 1 diploma in vehicle accident body repair 25th January Free 16-18 19+ 1,500 This programme covers the underpinning knowledge and practical skills required for you to move into the industry. The programme develops your skills in vehicle body repair principles. This is a full time programme, five days per week for six months.
SKILLS FOR LIFE Functional skills English January (evening & morning) 16-18 & adults: fully funded except 30 materials charge This part time functional skills English programme allows you to upgrade your skills for progression onto a vocational programmes or improved skills for employment. Daytime or evening courses are offered at and consist of a two-hour session each week, for up to 32 weeks, combined with 1 hours of flexible learning that is carried out in the skills base. By the end of your programme you will undertake an English functional skills exam at the appropriate level for you. Functional skills maths January (evening) 16-18 & adults: fully funded except 30 materials charge This part time functional skills maths programme allows you to refresh or upgrade your skills for progression onto a vocational college course or improved skills for employment. Daytime or evening courses are offered at and consist of a two-hour session each week, for up to 32 weeks, combined with 1 hours of flexible learning that is carried out in the Skills for Life Skills base. By the end of your course you will undertake a Maths functional skills exam at the appropriate level for you. English as a second language ESOL Entry level 1 January (term time and evening) 16-18: fully funded except 30 materials charge Adults: part time evening 1.5hrs delivery and 1.5hrs directed study Tuition fee = 250 Additional fees = 95 Adults: part time day 3hrs delivery and 3hrs directed study Tuition fee = 450 Additional fee = 95 Please call for guidance on overseas fees Part time course which focuses on improving communication skills in English, if English is not your first language, and if you are settling into the UK. Daytime or evening courses are offered at. The evening course consists of a 1.5hour session each week, for up to 32 weeks, combined with 1.5 hours of flexible learning that is carried out in the Skills for Life Skills base. The daytime course consists of a 2 x 1.5hour session each week, for up to 32 weeks, combined with 2 x1.5 hours of flexible learning that is carried out in the Skills for Life Skills base. By the end of the course it is hoped you will undertake a Cambridge assignment in ESOL.
