Follow these instructions to access your Public/Private folders from home. Please Note: If you are having connectivity issues after installing or upgrading VPN, please refer to Troubleshooting Connectivity Issues on Page 6. If you have a Mac, see separate instructions: Installing VPN for Mac. Step 1 Install VPN Install the VPN (Virtual Private Network) client Palo Alto GlobalProtect on your PC. 1. Open your web browser and type in or copy-and-paste the following website in the address bar: https://vpn.bvsd.org 2. You will be prompted for your BVSD name and password: Name: firstname.lastname (BVSD username) Password: (BVSD password) Click Login 3. Click on Download Windows 32 bit or Download Windows 64 bit, depending on which version of Windows you have. To verify your version of Windows, go to Start > Control Panel > System. 1
4. A File Download window will open. Click Run to begin download: 5. On the Security Warning window, click Run: 6. The GlobalProtect Setup Wizard will open. Click Next: 2
7. Leave the default information in the next window and click Next: 8. Click Next again to confirm installation, which will begin. Click Yes if you are asked to allow the program to be installed on your computer. 9. Click Close on the Installation Complete window: 10. Close your web browser. 3
11. In the GlobalProtect window, type in the following: Username: firstname.lastname (BVSD username) Password: (BVSD password) Check Remember Me (if unchecked) Portal: vpn.bvsd.org Click Apply 12. You will receive the following message when you have successfully Connected to VPN: 13. If you are Not Connected, click File and select Connect. You may have to try this more than once. If you still can t connect, restart your computer and try again. 14. A shortcut to GlobalProtect will be placed on your desktop so that you can quickly connect to VPN in the future. You will not be prompted for your credentials after GlobalProtect has been installed. Just double-click the GlobalProtect icon on your desktop to connect. Alternatively, you can right-click the GlobalProtect icon on the lower right of your screen and left-click Connect. Please Note: Remember to ALWAYS Disconnect your VPN connection before logging off, restarting, or shutting down your computer 4
Step 2 Access Public/Private Folders from Home 1. Click the round Start button (bottom left corner of screen), enter Server Name (see list below) in Search bar, and press Enter: For Ed Center server: For Elementary School server: For Middle School server, including K-8s For High School server: 2. Double-click the folder with your School Name or Dept. Name. 3. If you are a school staff member, double-click either the admin or instruct folder. 4. Scroll to find the folder with Your Name, and double-click to access your Public/Private folders. If you want a shortcut of your folder on your desktop, right-click the folder with Your Name, select Send to, and click Desktop (create shortcut). 5
Troubleshooting Connectivity Issues ISSUE #1: I m getting the OnDemand mode error when trying to connect. Resolution: Try connecting again: 1. Right-click the GlobalProtect icon on the lower right of your screen and left-click Connect. You may have to try this more than once. 2. If you still can t connect, restart your computer and try again. ISSUE #2: I can t connect after upgrading and restarting my computer (or other reason). Resolution: Enter your username, password, and settings again: 1. Right-click the GlobalProtect icon on the lower right of your screen and left-click Open: 2. Click View and select Advanced View: 6
3. Click the Settings tab and enter the following: Username: firstname.lastname (BVSD username) Password: (BVSD password) Check Remember Me (if unchecked) Portal: vpn.bvsd.org Click Apply 4. Right-click the GlobalProtect icon on the lower right of your screen and left-click Connect. ISSUE #3: I can t stay connected. Resolution: Make sure that you have the latest VPN client installed: 1. Right-click the GlobalProtect icon at the bottom right of your screen and left-click Check Version: 2. If you get the upgrade pop-up, click Yes and follow the prompts. 3. After the upgrade is finished, restart your computer 7
4. Right-click the GlobalProtect icon on the lower right of your screen and left-click Connect. 5. If you still can t connect, then follow the instructions in ISSUE #2 above. 6. If you still can t connect after following the instructions in ISSUE #2 above, then uninstall/reinstall GlobalProtect. Go to Start > All Programs > Palo Alto Networks > GlobalProtect > GlobalProtect Uninstaller. Then reinstall by starting the instructions on page 1. 8
