Summer Camp Parent Package Age Overrides/Camp Transfers Sometimes you need a little flexibility. For age override requests and camp transfers please contact recinfo@barrie.ca. Please note: cancellation of a camp prior to the start of the program is a possibility, if requested. In these cases you are eligible to receive a full refund minus a $15.00 administration fee. Again, please contact recinfo@barrie.ca for further information. Quality Supervision Our staff to participant ratios reflect our commitment to quality program supervision. Preschool programs operate with a ratio of 1 leader for every 6 children and all other camps operate with a ratio of 1 leader for every 10 campers. These ratios are supplemented with support from our Leader In Training program, mediators and volunteers from the community. All staff are certified in First Aid, CPR C and require a criminal reference check. In addition they are trained to interact with children in a positive and developmentally appropriate manner. All camps follow the Parks and Recreation Ontario HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development. Fair Play in Camps... Fun for Everyone The goal of City of Barrie Day Camps is to ensure all campers have a rewarding, memorable, safe and fun experience while participating in our program. Providing a safe environment is a collaborative process. We ask that parents/guardians share the following camp rules/guidelines with their child/ren: Respect others and their property Hands off No bullying behavior Listen to the Leaders Stay with the group Use appropriate language HAVE FUN!

If the above guidelines cannot be met, our Fair Play Follow Up process may be implemented. Parent conferences may be required to address concerns at any step in this system. ** Physical aggression towards another person or oneself may require a temporary or full suspension from camp(s).** Camper Pick Up, Drop Off and Safe Arrival Campers 10 yrs and under MUST have adult supervision at all times during morning drop off and afternoon pick up. Please ensure that regular escorts and emergency contacts are recorded with your registration. Only those adults listed will be permitted to pick up your child(ren) and will be required to show proper identification upon pickup (i.e.- drivers license). Please notify us if your child will NOT be attending camp that day, or of any change in your child s pick-up routine by calling 705-792-7908 - this is our Safe Arrival Hotline. Children are NOT allowed to leave the program without written consent from a parent or guardian. Inclusion Services City of Barrie summer camp programs are dedicated to providing an inclusive environment and welcome participants of all abilities to register. 1:1 inclusion leaders and/or adapted camps are available, spaces are limited so please book early. Personal support staff welcome. Employment Opportunities Students grade 10 and up are encouraged to apply for positions. Applicants must be turning 16 yrs by the end of the calendar year and a full time student. The application deadline is January 31 st. Seasonal positions available include: Jr Leader Leader Leader/ Lifeguard Inclusion Facilitator Supervisor Camp Coordinator Qualifications required include Standard First Aid and CPR level C. Applications are available at all Recreation Centres, City Hall- 8 th floor and online on at www.barrie.ca (employment page). Camp Hours and Extended Care Camp begins at 9:00am and ends at 4:00pm each day. Parents may drop off their child(ren) in between 8:30am-9:00am and pickup in between 3:45pm-4:15pm without additional charge. If you require our extended care service you may sign up for this program at your local community centre (front desk). Times and rates are as follows: AM Care Only (7:00am-8:30am)-- $20.00/wk PM Care Only (4:00pm-5:30pm)--$20.00/wk AM/PM Care Only (See above times)-- $35.00/wk Refunds, Withdrawals & Cancellations All camp program cancellation requests must be forwarded to Recreation Information at 705-739-4287 or recinfo@barrie.ca. In your message please include the name of participant, home phone number and barcode of the program. Transfers are subject to availability and appropriate placements. Advising an instructor, Client Service Staff or simply not attending camp is not considered notice of cancellation. If you cancel your child s camp by the end of the second day of camp you will be refunded your money minus a $15.00 administration fee and the cost of the first 1 or 2 days. No refunds will be issued after the second day of camp. Camps may be cancelled due to low registration. If this is the case you will be offered a full refund or transfer based on availability Waitlist Waitlists work! Camp staff review waitlists on a daily basis and do our very best to accommodate as many campers as possible, while still maintaining the integrity of the program. We encourage you to use our waitlist system as we will do our best to accommodate your preferences whenever possible. Day Trips and Outings Some City of Barrie camps will have the opportunity to attend day trips. These camps/outings include the following: Active Youth- this camp will go to Tyndale Park for archery, canoeing and beach volleyball. Campers will also experience Tree-Top Trekking at Horseshoe Valley and will go to Sunnidale Park for leadership/team building activities.

Leadership Trek- this camp will be going to Sunnidale Park towards the end of the week for outdoor leadership/team building activities. Girls In Action- this camp will go to Tyndale Park for archery, canoeing and beach volleyball. Volleyball Camp- this camp will be going to Centennial Beach/Park for beach volleyball and swimming towards the end of the week. Bus Safety Please review bus safety with your child if they are in a camp that offers day trips and outings that require bus travel. Here are some key points to address: Never run to or from the bus Wait for the bus at a safe place away from the road, stay with your camp Listen to the driver Walk up the steps, one at a time, using the hand rail Never push or shove hands to yourself! Sit facing the driver, feet in front of you Keep the aisle clear at all times Keep your hands inside the bus at all time Listen to your leaders Camp Swimming All children wishing to swim in the deep end are required to complete the facility swim test (1 width of the pool with face their face in the water). All swim tests will be administered by the lifeguards with the assistance of camp staff. If a child is unable to complete the swim test or requires more strength to be independent while in the water they will have the option of either wearing a life jacket or using the small pool during swim time. Parents are encouraged to chat with their child(ren) about swim time rules and safety before coming to camp. After Camp Swim Lessons Immediately following camp at East Bayfield CC and Holly CC the City of Barrie offers summer swimming lessons! Special 1 week lessons begin at 4:15pm. Camp staff will escort your child to the change room where they will get ready for a 30-45min swimming lesson. Parents must pick up their child immediately following the lesson on the pool deck. See the swimming section of your spring/summer recreation guide for specific details.

What to Wear and What to Bring Lunch, snacks and lots to drink **Please no nut products** Sunscreen (apply at home and pack in bag) A hat Closed toe/heel shoes A bathing suit, towel, and water shoes (if at a camp that swims daily) Special items your supervisor may have mentioned (ie- white T-shirt, sporting equipment) Sun Safety The risk for sunburn and ill effects from heat exposure can be high in children. Please help us keep your child safe by providing them with sunscreen daily. If your child has heat sensitivities, please speak with their camp Supervisor first thing Monday morning. Inclement Weather Heat or rain won t stop the fun! All camp programs continue during inclement weather. Programs either have onsite facilities or campers may be transported to a nearby location at the discretion of staff. Please dress your child appropriately for the weather and label ALL camper items including clothing, towels and bags. Should inclement weather be forecast, please call the inclement weather hotline at (705) 739-4215 for more information about its effect on outdoor based camps. Illness, Allergies and Medications Health and safety is our number one priority. Please ensure the camper information section of your registration is fully completed and that we have up to date information about medications, medical conditions, doctors name and an emergency contact that can be reached during the hours or 7:00am - 5:30pm. Lunch and Snacks Camps have become a nut aware environment. We therefore request all parents to avoid sending peanut or nut products to camps. Please send energizing foods including fruits, vegetables, low sugar drinks and lots of water! Photos and Consent The Recreation Services department occasionally takes photographs of our day camps to promote City of Barrie programs. If you have any concerns regarding this please contact your camp supervisor. Individuals who wish to take pictures of their own families are asked to refrain from doing so until parent viewing opportunities/showcases. Lost or Stolen Articles The City of Barrie is NOT responsible for lost or stolen articles. Please label ALL camper items including clothing, towels and bags. At the end of the week found articles will remain at their facility with the exception of satellite locations such as Tyndale Park, Burton Ave Church, Unity Christian School, The Barrie Sports Dome, Eastview Arena, Dorian Parker Centre and the Barrie Community Sports Complex. Please see below the list of lost item pick up locations for satellite facilities. Preschool Camps Kinder Fun The perfect introduction to camp! Our littlest campers will enjoy theme based activities, crafts and make new friends. This camp offers a morning and afternoon option to work with every schedule. All participants must be independent when using the washroom. My Pre Dance Get read to dance! Campers will enjoy learning basic dance steps each day along with crafts, games and everything fun! Parents will be invited to watch a showcase of what was learned at the end of the week. Little Green Thumbs Perfect for the nature lover! Campers will take a closer look at the world around them and grow their own garden. They ll get their hands dirty, play games, make crafts and have lots of fun! Imagination Station Creative play is what this fun camp is all about! Campers will have fun singing, being silly and enjoying the world of make believe! Theme days and dress up complete this fun week. Outdoor Camps Earth Challenge- We prefer to remain at Tyndale Park so please dress your child appropriately, however if the weather is bad we will move the campers to another location to enjoy their day. Your child will be bused to the alternate location and then bused back to Tyndale in time for pick up at the end of the day. We will not call parents if we move however the inclement weather hotline will be updated to accommodate early pickups. (705) 739-4215 ** Please note that camps running out of the Barrie Community Sports Complex will be outdoors for the majority of their day.** Active Camps Active Youth- this camp is very active and on the go. Please reference the Day Trips/Outings section for a comprehensive list of where campers will be headed throughout the week. Girls In Action- this camp will experience fun and exciting events such as swimming, dance, fitness, archery, canoeing, beach volleyball and more. Participants will dabble in activities geared towards finding a hobby/interest that they can love for years to come. Please reference the Day Trips/Outings section for a comprehensive list of where campers will be headed throughout the week. Basketball Camp- this camp will participate in a variety of basketball related skills/drills and will experience competition in a positive/healthy environment. Whether you re a star on the court or a superstar coach, this camp has everything for the basketball enthusiast. Emphasis will be placed on fun, team work and good sportsmanship. This camp will be supplemented with general activities such as swimming, games, songs, etc.

Bike Camp- get ready to bike your day away in this highly active camp. Participants will set out a journey all around town, stopping at various destinations along the way to play games and have fun. Volleyball Camp- new to volleyball or a seasoned veteran, this camp has something for everyone. Participants will learn skills and drills while also making time for general camp games, crafts, swimming etc. Emphasis will be placed on fun, team work and good sportsmanship. Campers will head to Centennial Beach during the latter part of the week to try their hand at Beach Volleyball and go for a swim. Soccer Camp- this camp has something for everyone, from beginner to expert. Participants will learn how to dribble, pass, shot, head and scooooore all while simultaneously making time for general camp games, crafts, swimming etc. Emphasis will be placed on fun, team work and good sportsmanship. Baseball Camp- campers will work on skill development and daily scrimmages while also participating in special events and friendly competitions. Please provide your own hat and glove. Emphasis will be placed on fun, team work and good sportsmanship. Tennis Camp- this camp will experience a variety of tennis related skills, drills and matches during the morning and general camp activities such as games, swimming, etc in the afternoon. Participants are required to bring their own tennis racquets. Non Traditional Sports Camp- has your son or daughter tried their hand at ALL of our sports based camps? Then this program is for them! Campers will try a variety of non-traditional sports and activities including pickle ball, badminton, dodgeball, ultimate frisbee and more! Emphasis will be placed on fun, team work and good sportsmanship. Super Sports Camp- this camp gets to try it all! Basketball, volleyball, soccer and more! Campers will try their hand at a variety of sports while also playing games, singing songs and having fun. Don t forget the bathing suits--this camp swims every afternoon. Participants will be split by age. Water Adventurers- This camp will swim twice in one day so don t forget to pack two of everything! The morning swim time will be spent learning basics of swimming while the afternoon is all about fun, fun, FUN! Participants must be able to swim 25 meters independently and will be required to wear a PFD if unable to complete this swim test. Dance Camp- this camp will work towards creating a group dance by the end of the week and will dabble in ballet, jazz, contemporary, hip hop, etc. Dancing will be interspersed with general camp activities such as games, crafts, swimming and more! Dodgeball Camp- dodge, dip, dive, duck and dodge! Learn the 5 d s of dodgeball as well as many other interesting rules, strategies, tactics and styles of the game. Dodgeball is not just for gym class anymore it s a sport! This camp is perfect for that child who has tried it all and needs a fast paced/high energy environment.

Gymnastics Camp- this camp will experience a variety of gymnastics related activities such as floor, balance bean, vault and bars in a fun a positive recreational environment. Emphasis will be on enjoyment and learning new skills. This is not a competitive gymnastics environment. Passive Camps Art Camp Perfect for the child who loves to draw and create. Learn about cartoons and work with collages while drawing and painting masterpieces with guidance from a local professional artist. This camp will enjoy swimming on specified days over the summer. Computer Camp This is the best of both worlds! Campers will spend half the day working on computers and the other playing some fun games and activities. Campers can learn computer basics or for the more advanced camper website design, photo editing, flash games and more! Camp Cuisine This camp is perfect for the budding chef in your life! Campers will learn some delicious recipes along with basic kitchen skills. Families will get the chance to enjoy them at a special event on the final day. Craft Camp It doesn t get more crafty than this! Participants will spend their days creating using various supplies like recycled materials, beads among others, they will be given an open forum to be as creative as they wish. Director s Cut For the budding director in us all, this camp focuses on creativity in animation. Campers will have a hand in creating their movie every step of the way. No matter if they choose Lego Stop Motion Animation, Film Making or Digital Comic Books they will be able to show their short in a private screening by the end of the week! Leadership Camps and Volunteerism Leadership Trek- please see day trips/outings section Leaders In Training- this program will assist those individuals looking to gain leadership/volunteer experience. Participants will have one week of in class training and 1 week (35-40hrs) of volunteer placement within a camp setting. Many individuals who are currently employed as a City of Barrie day camp leader have taken this course. It is recommended that individuals have completed grade 9 prior to signing up, however not mandatory. Individuals MUST be turning 14yrs by the end of the calendar year in order to register for this camp. Holidays During the summer camp season there will be two exclusion dates. The first is Wednesday July 1 st (Canada Day) and the second is Monday August 3 rd (Civic Holiday). Please note that during these two dates there will be NO camp activities operating.

Not all camps swim daily so please check with your supervisor regarding swim time. 2:30pm-2:45pm SNACK Camps have become a nut aware environment. We therefore request all parents to avoid sending peanut or nut products to camps. Please send energizing foods including fruits, vegetables and low sugar drinks. Lots of water! 2:45-3:30pm SPECIAL EVENT Many camp staff will try to end the day with a bang! Often times there will be special events such as large group games, scavenger hunts, obstacle courses etc, to make the day a memorable one. 3:30pm-3:45pm Campfire Wrap Up/Journals A great way to wind down is to chat with friends about all the fun you had together. Campers and staff will end their day by reflecting on their time together and preparing for their next day of exciting activities! 3:45-4:15pm Clean Up/Home Time/Circle Games
