Introduction Thank you for instaing Doxiion. Doxiion document fie conversion software is a free document format converter for Windows. It can convert document fies between doc, txt, docx, rtf, htm, pdf and more. With Doxiion you can quicky and easiy convert your document fies into the formats you need, reduce fie size for sending via emai or storing on a CD as we as quicky convert to the format needed for other software appications. Features Loads a variety of different document fie formats. Quicky converts to a variety of output formats. Aows drag and drop of both fies and foders. Supports command ine too. Getting Started Cick on the "Add fie(s)" button in the toobar and seect documents to convert. Then seect the format to convert to from the Output Format ist, and cick the Convert button to convert your documents. Doxiion is designed to earn from you as you go. Doxiion remembers your settings the first time you do something, so when you repeat actions converting documents wi be faster for you. 3
How to use Doxiion Using Doxiion is easy. The basic steps are: 1. Add fies to convert 2. Specify a ocation to save converted fies 3. Specify the conversion format 4. Convert fies 5. View or ocate converted fies Each of these steps is detaied after the image. 4
1. Add fies to convertthere are two easy ways to add the fies you need to convert to Doxiion: Cick the Add Fie(s) button on the toobar. This wi open the "Locate document fie(s)" diaog. Browse the fie(s) you want to convert and cick the Open button to add them to Doxiion. Drag and drop fies from Windows Exporer into the Doxiion ist view When a fie has been added to Doxiion for conversion, it wi appear in the conversion ist with a document icon next to it. Once it has been converted, it wi remain in the ist, and the icon wi dispay a green checkbox on it if the conversion was successfu, or a red 'x' if it was unsuccessfu To deete a fie from the ist, seect it by cicking on it and then cick the Remove button in the toobar. Note that you can add mutipe fies with different formats to the conversion ist, and convert them in one batch. 2. Specify a ocation to save converted fies The "Output foder" abe dispays where the converted fies wi be saved. By defaut, it dispays the ocation used from the ast session. To specify a new ocation, cick the Browse button to the right of the Output foder address fied. Locate the desired output foder and cick OK to seect it. To aways save the converted fies to the same ocation as the source fie, cick the arrow in the right side of the address fied to expose the drop-menu, and seect the option [same as source fie]. 3. Specify the conversion format The "Output format" abe dispays the seected format you are converting to. To change the output format, cick the output format to open the drop-menu, and seect the format you want to convert to. 4. Convert fies When you are ready to convert the fies in the conversion ist to the specified format in the specified ocation, cick the arge Convert button in the ower right corner of the program window. Note that if any of the fies in the conversion ist are seected, cicking the Convert button wi convert ony the seected fies. To convert the entire ist, make sure none of the fies are seected. To deseect items, cick a portion of the ist that does not contain any fies for conversion. 5. View or ocate converted fies After you have cicked the Convert button, to view the converted fie, cick the Open output foder button ocated just to the eft of the Convert button in the ower right area of the program window. This wi open up the ocation of the most recenty converted fie(s). 5

Pease do further operation in Pixiion after the operation in Doxiion. That is to say, you cannot see the converted resut in the output foder if you do not operate Pixiion after the operation in Doxiion. 7
Conversion Errors and Information Viewing Extended Conversion Information If you attempt to convert a fie and something goes wrong with the conversion process, a short message wi be dispayed in the Extended Information coumn in the conversion ist in the Doxiion main window. This message gives a brief summary of the specifics of the probem. If fie conversion competed without error, the Extended Information coumn wi dispay the name of the converted fie. Overwriting Fies To specify what Doxiion does when a fie aready exists during conversion, view the Options ~ Overwrite topic in the Program Options section of this manua. 8
PDF Formatting PDF fie formatting The PDF format, whie very usefu for its abiity to be read on neary any device, has some severe imitations. Doxiion wi attempt to convert the text content, but there are cases where the content cannot be converted accuratey due to imitations that can vary from document to document. A Few Exampes Many PDF writers do not actuay keep spaces, tabs, ine breaks, and coumns. Instead they store words, or even etters, individuay, aong with the ocation on the page where the word or etter is supposed to go. Most document formats store a tabe as a set of tabe ces, each containing text. PDF stores tabes instead as text in front of a picture of the ines making the tabe. Some PDFs store text, not as actua text, but as pictures of text. (Doxiion is not an Optica Character Recognition product, and so must eave these as images.) 9
Burn to Disc If you want to make a quick backup of your origina fies before converting them, seect them in the ist and cick the 'Burn to disc' button in the toobar. This wi open Express Burn Disc Burning software, which is an easy-to-use burning program you can use to burn data to any disc type. Document Password PDF Password - PDF specification aows owners to specify up to two passwords for a document to protect and encrypt it: an owner password and a user password. Opening the document with the correct owner password (assuming it is not the same as the user password) aows fu (owner) access to the document. Opening the document with the correct user password (or opening a document that does not have a user password) must foow the user access permissions(e.g. copy and print) specified in the document by its owner. Doxiion Document Converter needs access permission for copy or extract page contents from the document according to PDF specification. Therefore, Doxiion requires to enter an owner password if the PDF document does not have "copy" permission, athough PDF readers can open it. Doxiion does not pop up this diaog if the PDF is not encrypted or disabed "copy" permission. 12
Scanned Document Preview This diaog aows users to preview a images in a scanned document and shows some information of each image in order to et users decide whether a images are converted to text using OCR technoogy. You can use the navigation buttons, which incude Go to the first image, Go to the previous image, Go to the next image and Go to the ast image to go to any image to preview it. 13
Document Settings This diaog aows you to set the page margins for the output fie. Inches / cm - Aows you to seect the units of measure for the page margins. Top / Bottom / Left / Right - These options are the page margins to be used when the output document is constructed. 14
Using the Doxiion Command-ine Too The Doxiion command-ine too aows you to use Doxiion to convert fies from the Windows command ine. This can be used to et other software convert fies with Doxiion or to automate batch conversion. The Doxiion executabe is usuay ocated as "C:\Program Fies\NCH Software\Doxiion\Doxiion.exe" Usage: Doxiion.exe [options] [fies to add] "Options" is where you can issue a series of commands to Doxiion. The options are: -convert - convert a fies oaded into Doxiion. -addfoder [FOLDER_NAME] - add a foder of fies into Doxiion. -format [FORMAT_NAME] - specify the output fie format to convert the oaded fies to. The format names are the fie extensions for each format (e.g..doc,.rtf). -outfoder [FOLDER_NAME] - specify the output foder to store the converted fies. Do NOT end the foder path with a backsash '\' character. -overwrite [OVERWRITE_FLAG] - specifies what to do when the converted fie aready exists. The fags are "PROMPT" (Prompt for What to Do), "ALWAYS" (Overwrite the Fie), "NEVER" (Don't Convert the Origina Fie), "CANCEL" (Abort A Conversions). -cear - cear the Doxiion fie ist window. -hide - hide the Doxiion window. -show - show the Doxiion window. -exit - exit Doxiion. "Fies to add" is where you type in the fies you want to oad into Doxiion. A typed fienames must use the fu fiepath of the name, and be circumfixed with quotation marks. Program Options - Options ~ Overwrite Overwrite Seect the course of action to take when the destination fie aready exists whie converting fies. The options are: Prompt for what to do - aways dispay a prompt asking whether you want to overwrite the fie or not. Overwrite the fie - overwrites the existing fie with the fie being converted. Don't Convert the Origina Fie - does not overwrite the existing fie with the fie being converted. Abort conversions - cances current fie conversion and aborts a subsequent conversions as we. Append number to fiename - appends a number to the fiename of the converted fie using a format that you can seect. The format must incude the strings "%fiename%" and "%number%", but they may be in any order you ike. You can add extra characters into the string and those characters wi aso appear in the converted fie's fiename. 20
Program Options - Options ~ Conversions This diaog contains options reated to converting fies. It is divided into "Formats" and "Errors" sections. Formats Specify what to do if the fie being converted is the same format as the output format. The options are: Copy fie directy to destination foder - copies the fie to the destination foder in its origina non-converted form. Do not convert - do not convert the fie at a, and continue converting other fies in the ist. Notes: The options in "Formats" wi aways be over-ridden by the options specified in the "Overwrite" tab if conficts arise. Errors Specify what to do if there is an error produced with the fie being converted. The options are: Prompt for what to do - prompts whether you want to continue converting other fies or abort converting atogether. Ignore error and continue converting other fies - continues converting other fies even if any particuar fie produces errors. Abort conversions - cances current fie conversion and aborts a subsequent conversions as we. Notes: If errors are produced on any fie, they wi be reported in the "Extended Information" coumn for that fie in the fie ist. OCR (Optica Character Recognition) Doxiion provides OCR component to aow users to convert high-quaity image of text into pain machine-encoded text. For exampe, some documents are from scanners as PDF or image. There is an option to make OCR confirmation quiet or not. 21
Program Options - Options ~ Other This diaog is for more genera options that can't be grouped into a specific category. Confirmation - Seect this option to produce an "Are You Sure?" prompt when removing fies from the fie ist. Notification - Seect this to get notification when conversion is done. When the conversion competed successfuy, Doxiion wi pay a sound; A diaog wi aso pop up to aow you to open the output fie or foder if you check Prompt for opening output fie or foder after successfu conversion. 22
Program Options - Options ~ Right Cick This diaog aows you to set options for the Windows Exporer right cick context menu (the menu that appears if you right cick on a fie in an Exporer window). Add Doxiion to the Windows Exporer right-cick menu - This option wi add Doxiion to the right cick menu of an appropriate document. Enabe right-cick option # - These options aow you to add up to three defaut formats to the right cick context menu for quicky converting documents. 23
