Installing the VMware View client to access MOVE Purpose: The purpose of this document is to guide you through the installation of the VMware Horizon View Client and accessing the MOVE environment. Pre requisites: 1) Student or Staff MIDAS Account 2) Internet Connection Preferably Broadband or High speed. Installing the VMware View client 1) Point your internet browser to http://move.odu.edu 2) Click on Install VMware Horizon View Client
3) Download the VMware View Client for your version of Windows, Apple, ios, or Android. If you are unsure which bit level of windows you have please follow these direction below to determine which version you have. Windows Vista or Windows 7 View the System window in Control Panel Windows XP 1. Click Start, type system in the Start Search box, and then click system in the Programs list. 2. The operating system is displayed as follows: o For a 64-bit version operating system, 64-bit Operating System appears for the System type under System. o For a 32-bit version operating system, 32-bit Operating System appears for the System type under System 1. Click Start, and then click Run. 2. Type sysdm.cpl, and then click OK. 3. Click the General tab. The operating system is displayed as follows: o For a 64-bit version operating system, Windows XP Professional x64 Edition Version < Year> appears under System. o For a 32-bit version operating system, Windows XP Professional Version <Year> appears under System. 4) Once you have determined that you have a 32 bit or 64 bit machine please download the appropriate client by clicking the Go to Downloads link to the right * If you are running Mac OS X Snow Leopard (10.6.8), Mac OS X Lion (10.7), Mac OS X Mountain Lion (10.8), Max OS X Mavericks (10.9., follow the download link for VMware Horizon View Client for Mac 5) Once you are at the download page click the Download link. 2
6) Click Run to start the client installation. * If prompted by the UAC/Universal Account Control please click Yes to continue with the installation.* If you have an old version of the client installed on you will be prompted to remove the old client. Please click OK to allow the newer client to install. 7) Click Next 8) Accept the VMware End User License Agreement by clicking the box next to the I accept the terms in the License Agreement then clicking Next. 3
9) Accept the defaults in the Custom Setup screen. Click Next 10) Set the default View Connection Server to move.odu.edu. Click Next 4
11) At the Enhanced Single Sign On: Accept the defaults. Click Next 12) At Configure Shortcuts: Accept the defaults. Click Next 13) At the Ready to install the Program Screen: Accept the defaults. Click Install 5
14) When installation completes click Finish. 15) If you are upgrading your client you will be prompted to reboot. When prompted click Yes to restart your workstation. If you are not prompt please continue to the next step. 16) Start the VMware View client by clicking on the VMware Horizon View Client on your desktop or from your start menu. 6
17) To connect to MOVE click the move.odu.edu cloud icon. 18) Review and Accept the University Usage Agreement. Click Accept to continue. 19) Enter your MIDAS ID and Password then click Login. 20) Select the Desktop Pool you need to connect to. By Default Select the General Lab Software Pool by double clicking it. You will be presented with the desktop pools that you are allowed to access. A Pool is a collection of virtual computers that you will be able to connect to and use. By default you will 7
have the General Lab Software pool which will provide you access to the same software found in the ITS Computer labs and will provide you the capability to print to the lab printers and access to your shared class folders the second is the ArcGIS pool. The other pools that are available to you are for specialized pools for Different Colleges and or applications. Please feel free to use them and explorer. If you would like to customize your user experience you can change you Display settings to match your monitor setup. These are the options available: Dual Monitors (Multi Monitor), Full Screen, or Custom if you would like to set a specific resolution. Click the Setting Options located at the upper right corner of the Window. 21) Once you are connected to MOVE you will be presented with the Windows Desktop and will able to use the desktop. Helpful Hints Once you have logged into the MOVE Environment. Here are some helpful hints to help you navigate the system in the Virtual Machine. 1) If you need to press CRTL+ALT+DEL you can use either CRTL+ALT+INS or use the tool bar at the top of the screen and click on Send CRTL+ALT+DEL 2) The VMware View client is also available for ios and Android Devices. 3) To print a document from MOVE select either the ODU B&W Printers or ODUWPMFDa How to Connect USB devices in the VMware Horizon View Client 1) Connect your USB device to your computer and verify that it has successfully connected. 2) Locate the VMware Option bar locate at the top of the View client Window 8
3) Click on the USB Device Menu Option Selecting Automatically Connect at Startup it will automatically connect all USB devices or select the specific device you wanted connected to your session. 4. You will see a notification in the Lower Left Corner that the device drivers are loading. 5. Once all the device have been installed you will receive a stating the device is ready for use If it is a USB drive you can verify its connection under Windows Explorer. Please keep in mind your files are located remotely on your USB drive and depending on the size and your internet speed may have a slight delay. If you are experience delays in opening and saving a file, we recommend copying the file directly to remote desktop then copying it back to your USB drive when you are finished. If it is a large file we recommend the use of cloud storage such as Google Drive to store and access file remotely. If you have your own cloud storage provider you can access it through the browser Pharos Printer Rule of Thumb This is the rule thumb to help you choose which queue to print to. If you need to send a print job to any of the major open labs (Learning Commons, Webb Center, BAL, and Resident Halls) or in the main labs at the Higher Educational Center (VBHEC, PHEC, Tri Cities) select the ODUWPMFDa print queue then select the printer you want to send your job to. The names of printers are labeled on the side of the printer. If you are sending a print job to a smaller lab with a smaller printer or to the stand alone wireless printers use ODU B&W printers. 9
