Map Heinävesi - Blue, White and Green Tourist Service Boat Cruises Main Road Heinävesi - Blue, White and Green Train Station Drawing: Pekka Utriainen Distances Helsinki Lahti Jyväskylä Mikkeli Kuopio Savonlinna Joensuu Varkaus 354 km 260 km 170 km 134 km 95 km 85 km 80 km 50 km The municipality of Heinävesi is characterised by an abundance of lakes and green forests. Indeed, over twenty percent of the area, 1318 km 2, is covered by water. There are about 3800 inhabitants. The vast Lake Kermajärvi, right at the heart of the municipality, reflects the beauty of the surrounding nature while the scenery of the national park of Kolovesi is dominated by labyrinthine archipelagos and abruptly ascending cliffs. Open waters can be found on Lake Juojärvi, which is among the ten largest lakes in Finland. The geographical location of Heinävesi is such that the shift from one season to another is apparent. During the summers, one may enjoy the blue glitter of lakes, the rush of rapids and the whisper of the woods. Autumn brings with it a burst of colour and a sense of freshness. The winters are characterised by sparkling white snowdrifts and crisp, frosty days. Heinävesi heartily welcomes the traveller. The community is busy, particularly during the summers when cottage dwellers and tourists swarm the streets. 2 Tel. 1. Lintula Convent +358 17 563 106 2.
