Here in the wilderness three cultures meet, Finnish, Swedish and Saami (Lapp). A thrilling different part of Scandinavia, known as Lapland. On an island in the river Muonio, looking out over two countries, lays Rajamaa. We have fully equipped chalets and a little restaurant. Here, some 200 km above the Arctic Circle, Lapland is at its best and cleanest, with deep forests, mighty rivers and the mountains rising at the horizon. Old paths and small roads wind through the forests and along rivers. From the hills You have breath-taking views of the wilderness. Birds, flowers, animals, the whole nature is significant for Lapland. Many northern species are only found here in what is known as the western-most part of the enormous Taiga. The season goes from mid-june to the end of September. From blooming meadows, over summer s midnight-sun, the autumn colours of "Ruska", to the frosty coming of the winter. Here You can enjoy the clean untouched Lapland, its nature, people and their rare culture. During some days You will, far away from the everyday worries, experience the genuine fascinating Lapland where man still lives in harmony with nature. 2 2 Day 1 At the airport in Rovaniemi, our bus is ready to take us through Lapland. We head westward towards the Muonio River until we reach Rajamaa. We install ourselves in the nice fully equipped chalets, and then gather in the main building for a drink of welcome. We get to know each other and check the program of the week. Dinner at the restaurant. After dinner there will be a presentation, in words and showing unique pictures by the Swedish photographer Staffan Widstrand. Today we present the first of The big four, the Scandinavian big predators, the very shy Lynx. Day 2 After breakfast we go with mini-bus to Pallas in Finland. The first trekking-tour goes on the mountains in the Pallas-Ylläs National Park. Soon we will pass the tree-line and come up on the open mountain. Lunch-package will be eaten high up on the mountain with a splendid view over the surrounding forests in three countries. After coming down again we watch the picture show at the information centre for Lapland nature. Dinner at the restaurant. After dinner we continue to present, in words and unique pictures, The big four, the Scandinavian big predators. Today the mysterious Wolverine. Day 3 After breakfast we go by bus to the village of Yli-Muonio, in Finland, to start our canoe trip. We paddle along the mighty River Muonio, with Finland on the left side and Sweden on the right. Passing meadows and hills we reach the ancient cemetery of Akanmella. We make a stop by this historically interesting place, before we continue down the river. Lunch by the campfire, or in some old farmer s cabin. We continue along the river and spot the church-tower in Muonio, and then we are close to our goal. We will get our mountain-bikes in Muonio and bike back over the border-bridge to Rajamaa. Dinner at the restaurant. 3 3 Day 4 After breakfast we start our biking tour. We will make our first stop by the church in Muodoslompolo, and then bike around the Lake Naankijärvi, where we make a lunch break. We then follow the hills Mellavaara and Muoniovaara, with beautiful views over the River Muonio. We bike down to Muonio village where we leave the bikes and go by minibus back to Rajamaa. Dinner at the restaurant. After dinner we continue to present, in words and unique pictures, The big four, the Scandinavian big predators. Today the King of the Forest the Bear. Day 5 After breakfast we go, by bus, to Peltovuoma in Finland to meet the Eira family. This Saami family lives in between modern life and an ancient form of rein-deer herding. We will get to hear about the rare culture, about old days and today s work with the animals. Jouni Eira will show us how he works and we will walk out to try and find the heard. We eat a lunch inspired by Lapland before we drive back to Rajamaa. Dinner at the restaurant.

5 5 Day 6 After breakfast we start the Porrasmaa- Saarikoskenvaara- tour. Along paths we make our way up to the high hills. We can see examples of 100 years of forest work along the way. From the top we will see Rajamaa deep down in the river valley. The lunch will be eaten along the way. We walk into Mukkaharjut, a magic landscape formed by the inland ice. Our hotel is a big log-cabin for forest workers, heated by fire and with water from the lake. We prepare the supper and heat up the sauna. Day 7 After breakfast we start back north again. We pass by Hiekinniitty, an ancient reindeer summit place of the forest-saamis. We cross an area dominated by reindeer and moose, and also bear. The lunch is eaten by the camp fire, and then we walk back to the big river again. Dinner at the restaurant. Day 8 After breakfast transfer to Kittilä airport. Included: Transfer from/to Kittilä or Rovaniemi airport, Kolari train or Pajala bus station. 7 night s accommodation in well-equipped chalets. Lapland full-board Breakfast, lunch-package and dinner. From dinner day 1 to breakfast day 8. Drinks not included. Guide. All activities and transports according to program. The participants are to bring proper personal equipment, like walking boots and smaller rucksack. The program can be changed according to weather conditions aso.
