2 Plumpton College Why study a vocational course at College? Plumpton College has many years experience working with schools and other organisations providing opportunities for those who can benefit from vocational/technical routes from age 14. You will gain an increase in confidence and vocational skills. You will also understand how the training and qualifications can help to start a career and find a way into the world of work. Equipment and clothing you will need All courses require PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and corporate College clothing. Full details are available on the College website: How to apply What is expected of you? Motivation in your chosen area Commitment to your chosen course, a mature attitude and full attendance Applications must be made through your school. Those who are home educated or not attending a school should contact Val Orchin ( , val.orchin@plumpton.ac.uk) to discuss your application. If you are currently at school, you should: Talk to your Tutor/Teacher about applying. Complete an application form, available at school or download from College website. Ensure the form is signed by your parents/ guardians and your school. Ensure that your school sends the application to Plumpton College. Progression Opportunities 16+ Level 2 Vocational Courses at College (Full Time) Work Based Learning Apprenticeship (College Day Release) Level 2 Level 3 Vocational Courses (A Level Equivalents) at College (Full Time) You can progress to Age Level 1 Vocational College Course + English & Maths GCSE s at school When you achieve Level 2 Vocational College Course + English & Maths GCSE s at school You can study Vocational Courses at Plumpton College alongside GCSE s at School, Academy or 6th Form College Information for the Home Educated We welcome applications from Home Educated Students from 14 years plus. You can access the following government funded courses: One or more day release vocational courses (see pages 3, 4, 5 or 6) providing they are on separate days. An additional day to include Functional Skills, Maths and English together with Science and other activities for study at either Plumpton or Ivyland Farm (Netherfield). 2

Small Animal Care Level 1 Certificate or Level 2 Extended Certificate Groom a small animal Working as part of a group Assist with the care of animals Assist with the movement of animals practical tasks, questioning, assignments, and online tests. Outdoor Adventurous Activities at Your School Offers at school Plumpton College can offer the following Outdoor Sports related development activities at your school: Team building Prefect training Staff development Short courses Short courses for 16+ students and/or staff: Mountain biking Navigation using GPS units Raft building Canoeing Kayaking First aid (all age groups) All qualifications may be subject to change and recruitment You choose course content We can offer: One day courses Repeat one day or block courses Team building and fun exercises for year group inductions and educational activities Swamp crossing Magic stick All aboard! Shrinking island You choose where course takes place Activities can be taught on the school site or students can be collected and travel to a venue from the school site using our minibuses. We bring the adventurous activities and outdoor sports skills staff to your school. Activities designed to meet school and individual needs. Design your own course Plumpton College provides specially designed land-based courses for schools at any of its centres (Plumpton, Ivyland Farm, Stanmer Park and Flimwell). Length of course, qualification, shared delivery and delivery centre are all features which can be considered. Plumpton College is willing to bring its skills and resources to your school and can provide activities to support your school s educational programme.
