Now we are going to prepare intensively the next conference in Cyprus offered by Mrs. Soula Christou of the Collective Mosaic Group in Limassol to the General Assembly at the last meeting in Athens. This proposal found a unanimous joyous agreement by the present members of the AIMC. Once more we shall come in a country with a strong ancient Greek and Byzantine heritage whose monuments we can see and admire especially at the planed sightseeing tour. But the admiration of these old relics are one thing, the main task however for us should be the presentation of contemporary mosaic works, a trend which is highly wanted by people who are interested in contemporary mosaic art, a mission which might be a permanent artistic challenge of our times. Herewith I want to invite you to this 13 th Conference in the hope to get a great resonance of participation in the joyous anticipation to come together as an international mosaic family under my last presidency. Concept: Topics: Oral presentations, visual show, panel discussion. poster exhibition Contemporary mosaic as art form, Contemporary mosaic in architecture and urban environment, Antique and traditional mosaic as far they are significant as a meaningful transition from antique /Byzantine stile to a modern interpretation Poster exhibition: Instead of shipping any mosaic works to Cyprus we prefer to make print expressive posters of 100 x 70 cm of executed mosaics as art works, mosaics in architecture or urban environment. These poster must be produced by the mosaicist self and forwarded to Cyprus in a square package (less costs), not in a roll. Patchwork: All participants are invited and kindly requested to create a small contemporary mosaic piece in mostly white colours of any kind of material which should be assembled to a major patchwork, and be installed in a public location in Limassol at a festive inauguration. The dimension should be 21 x 30 cm (!) set onto marine plywood or honeycomb support of 1 cm thickness. This small piece everybody can bring along in his hand luggage. Approximate congress program depending of the numbers of people who want to make a contribution: Arrival day: September 27 th Conference days: September 28 th /29 th /30 th October 1 st morning : AIMC General Assembly afternoon: Pick up from the hotel to start the sightseeing tour On 30 th with the closure of the conference the mayor of Athienou will host a Cypriot evening in honour of the conference guest with traditional music, dancing, and of course good food and wine! Sightseeing tour: October 2 nd /3 rd /4 th /5 th October 6 th Departure day home. Language: Participation fee: Expenses: Flight to Cyprus: The official congress language is English. The speaking time is limited to 15-20 minutes depending of the number of speakers. For the arrival it is suitable to arrive in Larnaca = next to the venue. For the departure is possible also Paphos. ( From the hotel in Limassol to Larnaca or Paphos Airports is roughly the same distance, a 40 minutes drive.)

October 1 st : Morning: AIMC General Assembly at the hotel Afternoon: Pick up from the hotel to visit the Angelochtisti Church in Kiti. Visit to the Chirokitia village which is an archeological site on the island which dates back to the Neolithic ages. Lunch break Tour to Amathuntia, a sanctuary of the goddess Aphrodite, one of the most ancient seats of her worship. Her temple remained famous also in the Roman times. Drop off at the hotel in Limassol where we shall stay 4 nights. October 2 rd : Visit to the Kykkos Monastery in the near of the Troodos Mountains Coffee break on the way there at the Troodos Square The monastery houses has the biggest mosaic work ever done on the island in the last century. Lunch at the Monastery, visit the Markarios tomb and the Byzant. Museum. Coffee break at the Trimiklini Village on the way back to Limassol. October 3 rd : Tour to Old Limassol City Centre. Visit to the Medieval Castle which is one of the most important castles in Cyprus. Then to the Folk Museum which provides a very interesting collection of Cypriot >Folk Art. Walk through the Historical Centre and Old Market Place. In the evening we will have the inauguration of the patchwork wall and the opening of the poster exhibition followed by a cocktail party. October 4 th : Paphos tour: Visit to the Curium city where our guests will see the old amphitheatre and mosaics. Visiting Petra tou Rhomiou the birth place of Aphrodite, but also the location where our ancestors collected the stones for their mosaic creations. Lunch at the Paphos harbour at the castle. Mosaic tour of Paphos: House of Dionisos, house of Aeon, house of Thesius October 5 th : Nicosia Tour: Visit to the archeological Museum, St. John Cathedral and Byzantium Museum.
