RENEWABLE ENERGY SOURCES INSTALLATIONS IN CRETE WIND ENERGY: 15 wind parks of total installed power of 92 MW / Electricity ~ 10% -5new parks under construction of total installed capacity 50,05 MW BIOMASS: (Thermal uses: olive oil mills, bakeries, green houses, hotels, dwellings): 8,5% of the total energy consumption / BIOGAS: 2 combined heat/electricity installations (CHP): Waste water treatment of Heraklion and Chania SOLAR THERMAL COLLECTORS: Central/house solar heating systems > 190.000 m 2 (thermal energy producing ~ 730 TJ ~ 3% of the total energy demand) 20 new pilot central solar heating systems for hotels and SMEs of 8.450 m 2 total surface SMALL HYDRO: 2 installations of 0,6 MW / Total potential: 6 MW

Award by the European Commission of the Region of Crete and its Regional Energy Agency for Renewable Energy Sources The Region of Crete and its Regional Energy Agency is one of the thirty (30) first official partners of the European Commission in the framework of «Renewable Energy Sources Take-Off Campaign in Europe». The Region of Crete and its Regional Energy Agency were awarded in 2001 with the first Award for the Best Regional Renewable Energy Partnership in Europe, for the programming, the promotion and establishing Renewable Energy Sources plants in Crete. 1 2 3
