Setting up Home Media Server (UPnP) to work with Dreambox Installation To get started, you must download a program for Home Media Server (UPnP) and install it on a Windows PC. The software in Russian language can be found here:http://www.homemediaserver.ru, in English here: http://www.wildmediaserver.com. For the english translation of this guide version 0.72 of Wild Media Server is used. photo Nr.1 (About) At the moment of writing this guide there is already version 1.10 of this software available. This version also works with Dreambox and the settings are almost the same. 1
First steps, setting up Media Resources After you installed and launched the program you see the main windows (photo Nr.2), on the toolbar click the button [Settings]. In the new window you must specify the location of your media resources on your PC for music, movies and photos (photos Nr. 3-7). Photo Nr. 2 (Main Window) All the options mentioned in this manual assume the use of Wild Media Server in combination with the Dreambox. Sharing media content with other devices require additional settings which are specific to the profile settings for each devices macand ip address. For more information contact the developers of the software. The settings for Internet radio-and television services are not part of this guide. Tab [ Media Resources ] > [ Service ]. You can configure additional servers here. These items appear in the Dreambox interface when viewing the Media Server (photo Nr. 7). Photo Nr. 7 (Setting up the directories / Service) The current version of the Dreambox browser does not support DLNA with password protection. 5
Setting the playback device for media resources When you setup the device you have to configure which files are supported by your Dreambox. All types of files extensions which are not on this tab (photo Nr. 8) will automatically be transcoded to a supported format, configures on the appropiate tab. Photo Nr. 8 ( Embedded file support) This tab shows the setup for DM800 PVR. For DM8000 you need to add, to [Movies]: [avi,divx]. To ensure compatibilty with Dreambox it is not recommended to change the [Chunked Transfer Mode]. 6

Configuring In the settings for the server (photo Nr. 11) you have to specify the name of your media server. The name you can find in the DLNA menu of your Dreambox (photo Nr. 21). Photo Nr. 11 (Server) 8
Configuring Transcoder In the transcoder settings you have to specify each type of media format which is supported by your Dreambox Photo Nr. 12 (Transcoder settings / Movies) For each type of media you can set up multiple profiles for transcoding. Which can be chosen in the DLNA menu of your Dreambox. 9

In the transcoder settings, [codecs,fame] tab (photo nur. 15), the used video compression format should be MPEG2, and for audio AC3. It is recommended that you set the number of channels to zero (automatically). Photo Nr.15 (Codecs, frame) Please be careful when modifying the settings on this tab because the performace of your Dreambox or your network are affected. If your Dreambox doesnʼt perform good you can try to change the parameters on this tab to get a better performance. 11

Additional settings In the Additional settings you can use the settings as shown in photo number 17. It is recommended to pay attention to the [ Autoload ] settings. These parameters can be configured individually. Photo Nr. 17 (Additional settings) Finalizing the configuration After all configurations are done click [ Ok ] to save the settings. Then you will be returned to the main menu (photo Nr. 18) where you have to click [ Start ]. In the [ Sources ] menu you will see a list of all available DLNA server on your home network. Here you must select your Home Media Server (UPnP) name which you specified earlier in the settings (photo Nr. 11). Next you will see a list of all available media types (photo Nr. 21). Photo Nr. 21 (List of available media servers) The next menus are similar to the ones of the Media Library of your Dreambox, although there are some small differences as you can see in the photos 22-27. The layout of this and the following menu may be different then the ones shown here because they depend on your settings of the Home Media Server (UPnP). 15
Photo Nr. 22 (Movies) Photo Nr. 23 (All Movies) If there is a (T) at the beginning of the line it means that this media content will be transcoded. The following menu has options for further steps. 16
Photo Nr. 24 (More actions for movie) The first line indicates that this media file can be played with the original encoding, only if your type of Dreambox supports this type. (If your Dreambox supports the encoding this option appears). Photo Nr. 25 (Menu when selected movie with original encoding) Now you can press [ Ok ] to start the movie. 17
