1 UPnP Setup Procedure for AVerMedia Media Player Enabling UPnP on your computer allows your AVerMedia Media Player to access media files in your Windows Media Player library. This documentation describes how to enable the Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) in Windows XP / Vista/ 7 in order to stream media files from your PC to AVerMedia Media Player. Once finished, you can easily share photos, videos, and music from your computer over the same network. Before setting up UPnP, please make sure a wired or wireless home network is properly configured. Enable UPnP in Windows XP You can use Windows Media Player to share digital media content with your networked AVerMedia Media Player. To share media over your home network using Windows Media Player, please refer to the following procedure: Step 1: Right click My Computer icon. Then click Manage > Services and Applications > Services > Universal Plug and Play Device Host and make sure that UPnP service is started. Step 2: Start Windows Media Player and then click the Library tab. From the pull-down menu, click Media Sharing. *Please use Windows Media Player 11 or later version. Step 3: In the Media Sharing dialog box, check on Share my media. Then Press OK. 1

2 Step 4: Within a few seconds, the device name of networked AVerMedia Media Player (e.g., AVerLife ExtremeVision Media Player, AVerLife HD Studio, AVerLife HD Theater, and AVerLife XVision HD) will be displayed in the box. Click on the device icon, and then click Allow. Step 5: The device icon will then be marked with a small green check. Click OK. Now you can browse and playback content from your Windows Media Player library using the AVerMedia Media Player. *Please note that your PC and AVerMedia Media Player must be on the same local subnet. * Please make sure your device is not on the firewall block list of your UPnP servers. * For AVerLife HD Studio, it is recommended not to use Windows Media Player to enable media sharing. Please use other UPnP software instead (e.g. IntelToolsForUPnPTechnology.msi and TVersity). *The original media files must be stored in one of the shared folders. The default directory is C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents. 2

3 Enable UPnP in Windows Vista You can use Windows Media Player to share media content with your networked AVerMedia Media Player. To enable UPnP (renamed as Network Discovery in Windows Vista) and share media over your home network using Windows Media Player, please refer to the following procedure: Step 1: Right click Computer icon. Then click Manage > Services and Applications > Services > UPnP Device Host and make sure that UPnP service is started. Step 2: Click on Start button. Go to Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center. Then click section. to expand Network discovery Step 3: Click Turn on network discovery, and then click Apply. Type your administrator password if required. 3

4 Step 4: Start Windows Media Player and then click the Library tab. From the pull-down menu, click Media Sharing. *Please use Windows Media Player 11 or later version. Step 5: In the Media Sharing dialog box, check on Share my media. Then press OK. Step 6: Within a few seconds, the device name of networked AVerMedia Media Player will be displayed in the box. Click on the device icon, then click Allow. Step 7: The device icon will then be marked with a small green check. Click OK. Now you can browse and playback content from your Windows Media Player library using the AVerMedia Media Player. 4

6 Enable UPnP in Windows 7 You can use Windows Media Player to share media content with your networked AVerMedia Media Player. To enable UPnP (renamed as Network Discovery in Windows 7) and turn on media sharing using Windows Media Player, please refer to the following procedure: Step 1: Right click Computer icon. Then click Manage > Services and Applications > Services > UPnP Device Host and make sure that UPnP service is started. Step 2: Click on Start button. Go to Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center > Change advanced sharing settings. Then click current network profile. to expand your Step 3: Select Turn on network discovery, and then click Save Changes. Type your administrator password if required. 6

7 Step 4: Start Windows Media Player and then click the Stream tab. From the pull-down menu, click Turn on media streaming (this option won't be available on the Stream menu if streaming is already turned on). *Please use Windows Media Player 12 or later version. Step 5: On the Media streaming options page, check on Turn on media streaming. Then press OK. Type your administrator password if required. Step 6: Click on the device name, and then click Allowed. Press OK to confirm. Now you can browse and playback content from your Windows Media Player library using the AVerMedia Media Player. *Please note that your PC and AVerMedia Media Player must be on the same local subnet. * Please make sure your device is not on the firewall block list of your UPnP servers. * For AVerLife HD Studio, it is recommended not to use Windows Media Player to enable media sharing. Please use other UPnP software instead (e.g. IntelToolsForUPnPTechnology.msi and TVersity). * By default, the Windows Media Player Library includes files from your own folder and also the Public folder in Windows 7. You can also add media files stored in other locations into the Library (See tip below for details). 7

8 Tip on Including Folder into Windows Media Player Library To include media files stored in other locations into Windows Media Player Library, please refer to the following procedure: Step 1: Navigate to the folder that you wish to include into the Library and click on it. Step 2: Click Include in library in the toolbar, and then click a category. *You can also drag-and-drop the media file(s) directly into the Library. 8
