1 IntraVUE Plug Scanner/Recorder Installation and Start-Up The IntraVUE Plug is a complete IntraVUE Hardware/Software solution that can plug directly into any network to continually scan and record details for diagnostic analysis. The system is has an automatic scanner function that once an IP is given to the unit it will start to immediately scan the network it is connected to with minimal configuration. The unit can be fully managed over the web with the only physical connections being the network cable(s) and power. 1. Powering the IntraVUE Plug: There are two options to provide power to the IntraVUE Plug. The first option is to use the direct wall mount connection with the ports facing down. The second option allows a power cord to be installed to the unit. In this option the unit should be placed with the IntraVUE logo facing up. 2. Configuring the IntraVUE Plug: To initially configure the IntraVUE Plug you connect Port 1 to a network that has a DHCP server. This can be any network that will allow a Windows based computer to run the discovery tool. The computer will be used to configure either or both ports. Port 1: The initial configuration of Port One (Port closest to the front of the unit) is set for DHCP and used for initial configuration. Port 2: This port is intended as the port which will scan the target network. It is initially configured to have DHCP disabled. Port two can be configured to have a static address or allowed to respond to a DHCP server. In most cases having a static address is preferable. Configuring the IP address can be accomplished through the Discovery tool. Once configured with a static IP address the unit can be turned off and moved into a network to scan. Port two has an automated scanner function. When the unit is added to the network it will automatically scan the class C subnet of the address range of port 2. If the unit has an enterprise license the scanner can be adjusted to add additional networks.

2 3. Locating the IntraVUE Plugs when connected to a network: Once port 1 of the IntraVUE Plug is connected to a DHCP network you can discover its IP address using a discovery tool. The discovery tool is on the CD shipped with the unit and can also be downloaded at Load this software on any PC on the same network as the IntraVUE Plug. The discovery tool will have one line for each Plug placed on the network. This allows multiple units in a distributed network to be managed and configured. In the image below, 2 Plugs have been discovered and the top one is selected. In this display you can identify the IP address of the unit if DHCP were enabled on the network. To verify you have selected the proper unit (if multiple are displayed) verify the MAC address on the bottom of the Plug. Once configured, you can use this tool to identify and manage multiple IntraVUE Plugs connected over a management network as well as open the Browser to configure and manage the IntraVUE software running on each system. 4. Configuring the IntraVUE Plug Selecting one of the lines in the Plug Discovery Tool and then selecting the Adjust Configuration button will open the Update IntraVUE Plug IP Settings display. In this display the IP addresses, Subnet Mask, and DHCP settings can be adjusted for both ports In addition a global Default gateway and DNS server IP address can also be configured if required. In many applications where there are isolated networks these would be left all zeros. To save the settings enter the password which is intravue (case sensitive) and select Submit. 5. Browsing to IntraVUE from the Plug Discovery Tool You can open a browser to the IntraVUE Software for the currently selected Plug by clicking on the Intravue Browser button of the Discovery Tool. The IntraVUE Plug can normally accessed by other computers via a browsers in the same manner as the standard IntraVUE software loaded on a PC. The URL uses the same extension (:8765) after the IP address of the IntraVUE system address. For example if the IntraVUE plug had an address of the Weblink would be 2

3 6. Automatic Device Discovery By the time you can browse to the IntraVUE software, devices should already be discovered as shown below. If IntraVUE comes up and only has the Scanner box without any other boxes additional configuration may be required. The IntraVUE Plug has an automatic scanning adjustment that is enabled on port 2. Once a IP address is set for Port 2 the class C subnet will be automatically set in the scanner and the unit will start scanning. Many applications are limited to a single class C subnet so this eliminates any need for additional configuration of the IntraVUE Software. If there are multiple IP address ranges (such as IP addresses of the switches not in the range of the connected device) to be scanned the user can configure the IntraVUE software in the same fashion as a standard package. Once the layer 2 switches have been discovered the IntraVUE display will change as devices are moved under the ports of the layer 2 switches. If this does not happen and the devices stay in a 'half circle' under the top parent one of the following may be true. The switches do not have the same SNMP community as the default. The switches are in a different IP address ranges. The switches are not layer 2 managed switches. Managed Switches respond to RFC 1493, which will be mentioned in the specification. The switches have additional security, such as an Access Control List, and the IP of the IntraVUE host must be added to the list. 3

4 7. Configuring the IntraVUE software To configure the unit you will right click on the background image. This will bring up a system menu and you will need to be in the Administrator mode. Select Login as admin and a window will appear requesting an Admin password. The password for the Admin is intravue (all lower case letters) If successful you will see the display get a black outline. Once in Admin mode you can again right click on the background of IntraVUE and additional selections will appear. To make changes and adjustments to the scanner selecting System configuration will bring up a display that will allow management of the IntraVUE software. Two tabs are of most importance. Database tab is where Backup, Restores, and Clearing of the main database takes palce. Scanner tab is where you can add or modify the scan ranges. It will be where you will add the managed switches that may not be in the same scan range of the connected edge devices. 4

5 8. Types of Networks There are two types of network configurations which a majority of IntraVUE plugs will be connected to. 1. Single Class C Network. This is where all the connected devices and switches will have the first three numbers in the IP address be the same. Only the last number will vary. For Example all devices on network X in which X is between 1 and Switches in a different Subnet. In this case all of the edge devices (PLC s, I/O, Cameras, Drives, etc.) are in the same Class C subnet, but the switches are in a different subnet (network). These are commonly found in applications where the switches are managed by a corporate IT group or if multiple applications or VLANs are sharing the same switches. 9. Configuring a single Class C Network In a single Class C network there is nothing to configure if Auto-Scanning is enabled. When the IntraVUE Plug gets an IP address in this network it will automatically scan all devices. This is common for isolated PLC or OEM networks. If the network is not mapped properly or if the IP addresses of the switches do not have a green outline, you need to check the SNMP read community. The default Read Community is 'public' and it is set as the default in IntraVUE. IntraVUE Screen in which all IP devices are in a single Class C subnet /P> 5

Configuring Switches in a different Subnet than the IntraVUE Plug In this application IntraVUE will already have the IP addresses of the edge devices and if Auto- Scanning is enabled will start to find all the devices. Without the switches added all the devices will be connected to the Top Parent (the IP address of the IntraVUE Plug) In this display all devices are displayed without any network topology because the switches have not been entered into the Scan range of the Plug. There is still value in understanding the connection status and even bandwidth usage of devices that support SNMP. To add the switches you will need to Login as Admin and open System Configuration. Under the Scanner tab you will select the Edit button to add the IP addresses of the switches that are used to interconnect the devices of the network. Edit allows the editing of a single network. The Add button adds another completely new network and it not what is desired for this application. When Edit is selected a new display will open in which you can add additional IP address ranges or edit an existing range. 6

7 Selecting Add will allow the IP addresses of the switches to be added. They can be added as a range with a starting address and ending address or individually added if one IP address is desired. Individual IP addresses are entered by using the same address for the starting and ending address and then hitting OK. To add the next address repeat this for each individual address. Once all the editing has been completed the next step will be indicating the SNMP Read community of these switches. The read community is added in the scanner tab in the box labeled Default SNMP Read Only Community. Once the correct Read community is selected you will then select Apply and Close to finish the editing operation. The added devices will then appear on the graphic initially under the Unresolved box. This indicates the device responded but the scanner has not determinded where to place it. Once the SNMP is discovered the switch will get a green outline to indicate support for SNMP. After several minutes the end devices will start to move under the switches to their correct locations. In order for the switch to be placed, the scanner must be able to get the MAC of the switch, read the SNMP from the switch, and the switch must claim the mac of the IntraVUE top parent. Once that is done, the switch will move out of unresolved and be connected to other devices. If you have problems obtaining the MAC address of the switch you should Right click on the Switch and select configure (make sure you are in Admin mode) and select the bottom checkbox that will use SNMP to obtain the MAC address of the switch. NOTE: This ONLY works for Layer 2 Switches. This dialog also allow individual configuration of the SNMP read community if it has not been used in the System Configuration dialog. 7
