1 Tech note Description Adding IP camera to DVR670 General The service note describes the basic steps to install a ip camera for the DVR670 Steps involved: 1) Configuration Manager application 2) Camera IP address assignment 3) Camera streaming property setup 4) Change DVR670 analogue camera to IP camera 5) Selecting the camera after scan 6) Configure the camera connection details 7) Connect and review status 8) Limitations 1 Configuration Manager application The process of network camera detection and configuration is supported by the Configuration Manager application that is included in the Bosch Video Client installer application. This application includes a Wizard option for IP setup. The use of this Wizard is NOT supported by the DVR. When the Wizard is started press cancel to exit the Wizard. When the Wizard continues to start up this is an indication the Configuration Manager is used in Basic mode. We recommend to use the Configuration Manager in Advanced mode. To switch to Advanced mode select File, Advanced Mode. Configuration Manager continuously performs network scans. After a while these result in the DVR and camera to be found on the network tab. 2 2 Camera IP address assignment Cameras that come out of the box have a default IP address assigned For an operational system all network devices need to be configured to a unique available IP address. To configure the IP address of the camera: select the device in the device list and use right click to show the context menu that lists Device Network Settings In this dialog the IP address can be changed to an address that is with the address space of the PC and DVR. Press Ok to apply network settings. This will result in the camera to be reset. Some minutes later the Configuration Manager will discover the camera and will list it in the Network device tree. 3 3 Camera streaming property setup Some Bosch camera s have streaming capabilities beyond the capabilities of the DVR. DVR670 does not manage the settings of the camera that result in video streams that are expected to be viewed and recorded. Therefore before assigning ip cameras to the DVR670 the camera settings need to be configured manually so that compatible video streams are provided. Only camera streams that provide a compatible resolution (144p, 288p, 240p, 480p) will be supported by DVR670. For the most optimal balanced video experience on all remote clients and local on the dvr unit, the recommended camera encoding parameters are: - GOP structure: IP - I-frame distance: 3 IP Cameras usually can offer more complex encoding parameters. These however can result in problematic display behaviour on client or dvr local display due to system limitations. Page 3 of 7

4 4 Change DVR670 analogue camera to IP camera DVR670 supports a total of 16 cameras. By default every camera in the system is configured as a analog camera (Enable property On ). To install a IP camera change the Enable property to IP cam. The DVR670 allows configuration of maximum 4 network cameras Once a video input is configured as IP camera then the analogue input connector at the backside of the unit is disabled. Video signals at the connector will be ignored resulting in no recording and no display. To configure IP cam details click auto detect or connect the camera., this will result in a screen that enables to manually setup, Page 4 of 7

6 5 Selecting the camera after scan The easiest method for camera assignment is to use Auto Detect. That will present a dialog that lists all cameras on the network that are scanned by dvr670. This screen example shows one device. In practice this can be a list of devices. Based on Mac and IP address Select the camera to be assigned. Press Assign to Assign. Page 6 of 7

7 6 Configure the camera connection details Once assigned the camera connection details can be configured. Press OK when finished. 7 Connect and review status After completion of the connection details, Press the Connect button to apply configuration and to review the status of added camera. Now the system is ready to view and record the configured IP camera. 8 Limitations Since DVR670 is not in control of the IP camera and its streams, the application of IP cameras does introduce limitations to the available dvr670 feature set. Unavailable features include: Motion detection, Alarm recording, Live streaming. Page 7 of 7
