SMART Board Software and Beyond In SMART Notebook software, you can create or open SMART Notebook software (.notebook) files. After creating or opening a.notebook file, you can save it, print it, export it to other formats and complete other common tasks. In addition, you can work with the pages within the.notebook file. Creating and Working with Files When you start SMART Notebook software for the first time, a tutorial file opens automatically. When you start the software subsequent times, a new.notebook file opens automatically. However, you can create a new file at any time. To create a file 1. Select File > New. If you re working on a file with unsaved changes, a dialog box appears and prompts you to save the current file. 2. Press Yes to save your changes, and then follow the on-screen instructions. Opening Files With SMART Notebook 14 software, you can open the following:.notebook files (the default file format for SMART Notebook 9.5, 9.7, 10, 11 and 14 software).xbk files (the default file format for SMART Notebook 8, 9.0 and 9.1 software) To open a file 1. Press Open File. The Open dialog box appears. 2. Browse to and select the file. 3. Press Open. After you open a file, you can save the file as a.notebook or.xbk file. The method by which you open a file is the same for all versions of SMART Notebook software. 2
Tip: You can open a recently opened file by selecting the File menu, and then selecting the file name. Saving Files By default, SMART Notebook software saves your files in.notebook format. Anyone with SMART Notebook 9.5 or later software for Windows operating systems, Mac OS X operating system software or Linux operating systems installed on his or her computer can open a.notebook file. You can also set SMART Notebook software to save your file automatically when you select a different page or after a specified period of time. To save a new file 1. Press Save. The Save As dialog box appears. 2. Browse to where you want to save the new file. 3. Type a name for the file in the File name box. 4. If you want to make sure that your file retains its formatting, select the.notebook format in the Save as type drop-down list. If you want to create a file that you can open with SMART Notebook 8, 9.0 and 9.1 software, select the.xbk format in the Save as type drop-down list. 5. Press Save. If you re saving your file in the.xbk format and there are objects or properties in your file that the.xbk format doesn t support, a dialog box appears indicating that SMART Notebook software won t save these objects or properties if you continue. Press Yes. To save an existing file Press Save. To save an existing file with a new name or location 1. Select File > Save As. The Save As dialog box appears. 2. Browse to where you want to save the new file. 3. Type a name for the file in the File name box. 4. If you want to make sure that your file retains its formatting, select the.notebook format in the Save as type drop-down list. 3
If you want to create a file that you can open with SMART Notebook 8, 9.0 and 9.1 software, select the.xbk format in the Save as type drop-down list. 5. Press Save. If you re saving your file in the.xbk format and there are objects or properties in your file that the.xbk format doesn t support, a dialog box appears indicating that SMART Notebook software won t save these objects or properties if you continue. Press Yes. Saving a File Automatically You can set SMART Notebook to save your file automatically when you display a different page or after a specified period of time. To save files automatically 1. Select File > Timed Saves. The Timed Save Wizard dialog box appears. 2. Select Every time I move to a different page to save your file automatically every time you select a different page. Select 1 minute, 5 minutes, 15 minutes or 30 minutes to save your file automatically after a specified period of time. 3. Press Next. 4. Select Notebook Document. 5. Press Next. The Save As dialog box appears. 6. Browse to the folder where you want to save the new file. 7. Type a name for the file in the File name box. SMART Notebook automatically saves the file with the.notebook file extension. 8. Press Save 4
To cancel automatic file saving 1. Select File > Timed Saves. The Timed Save Wizard dialog box appears. 2. Select Do not save the document automatically. 3. Press Next. Exporting Your File as Other File Formats Export files to share with colleagues who may not have Notebook software installed on their computers. You may also want to export your content to HTML for others to view on the Internet. 1. Select File > Export from the Notebook menu 2. Choose the file format to export your Notebook file to: HTML, PDF, PowerPoint (PPT) or as a series of images (e.g., JPEG, GIF, etc.) N O T E S SMART Notebook software doesn t include attachments when you export files as picture files. To include attachments, you must export your file as either web pages or PDF (Adobe Reader 6.0 or later). SMART Notebook software doesn t export files that you attach to your.notebook file as shortcuts. If you want to include an attachment, attach a copy of the file SMART Notebook software doesn t export some gradient, pattern and image effects. These effects might appear as a solid fill or appear incorrectly in the exported file. You can also set SMART Notebook software to export a.notebook file automatically when you display a different page or after a specified period of time. 5
To export a file as web pages 1. Select File > Export > Web Page. The Save As dialog box appears. 2. Browse to where you want to export the file. 3. Type a name for the file in the File name box. 4. Press Save. To export a file as picture files 1. Select File > Export > Image Files. The Export Image Files dialog box appears. 2. Select a folder where you want to export the files. 3. Select a picture format in the Image Type drop-down list. 4. Select a picture size in the Size dropdown list. 5. Press OK. To export a file as a PDF file 1. Select File > Export > PDF. The Export PDF dialog box appears. 2. Press Thumbnails, Handouts or Full Page. 3. Optionally, type header text in the Header box, footer text in the Footer box and the current date in the Date box. 4. Optionally, select the Show page numbers check box to show a page number on each page. 5. If you pressed Thumbnails or Handouts in step 2, select a thumbnail size in the Thumbnail size drop-down list and, optionally, select the Page borders check box to show a border around each thumbnail and the Thumbnail titles check box to show titles under each thumbnail. 6. Select All to include all pages. Select Pages to include select pages, and then type the page numbers in the box. Separate individual page numbers with commas and separate page ranges with a hyphen (for example, 1,2,4-7). 7. Press Save. The Save as PDF File dialog box appears. 8. Browse to where you want to export the file. 9. Type a name for the file in the File name box. 10. Press Save. 6
To export a file as a CFF file 1. Select File > Export > CFF. The Save As dialog box appears. 2. Browse to where you want to export the file. 3. Type a name for the file in the File name box. 4. Press Save. N O T E: You can also import CFF files To export a file as a PowerPoint file 1. Select File > Export > PowerPoint. The Save As dialog box appears. 2. Browse to where you want to export the file. 3. Type a name for the file in the File name box. 4. Select PowerPoint 2007 Files (*.pptx) or PowerPoint Files (*.ppt) in the Save at type dropdown list. 5. Press Save. N O T E: You can also import PowerPoint files Exporting Automatically You can export your.notebook files to a variety of formats, including web pages and PDF. You can also set SMART Notebook software to export a file automatically when you display a different page or after a specified period of time. N O T E S SMART Notebook software doesn t include attachments when you export files as picture files. Select 1 minute, 5 minutes, 15 minutes or 30 minutes to export your file automatically after a specified period of time. 3. Press Next. 4. Select PDF. Select Time Stamped PDFs, if you want the exported files names to include the time of the export. Press Next. 8
The Save As dialog box appears. 6. Browse to where you want to export the file. 7. Type a name for the file or files in the File name box. 8. Press Save. To export a file automatically as picture files 1. Select File > Timed Saves. The Timed Save Wizard appears. 2. Select Every time I move to a different page to export your file automatically when you display a different page. Select 1 minute, 5 minutes, 15 minutes or 30 minutes to export your file automatically after a specified period of time. 3. Press Next. 4. Select Image Files. 5. Press Next. 6. Press Browse, browse to where you want to export the files, and then press Open. 7. Select the picture format in the Image Type drop-down list. 8. Select the picture size in the Size drop-down list. 9. Press OK. To export a file automatically as a PowerPoint file 1. Select File > Timed Saves. The Timed Save Wizard appears. 2. Select Every time I move to a different page to export your file automatically when you display a different page. Select 1 minute, 5 minutes, 15 minutes or 30 minutes to export your file automatically after a specified period of time. 3. Press Next. 4. Select PowerPoint. 5. Press Next. The Save As dialog box appears. 6. Browse to where you want to export the file. 7. Type a name for the file in the File name box. 8. Press Save. To cancel automatic file export 1. Select File > Timed Saves. The Timed Save Wizard appears. 2. Select Do not save the document automatically. 3. Press Next. 9
Printing Files To print a file 1. Select File > Print. The Print dialog box appears. 2. Press Thumbnails, Handouts or Full Page. 3. Optionally, type header text in the Header box, footer text in the Footer box and the current date in the Date box. 4. Optionally, select the Show page numbers check box to show a page number on each page. 5. If you pressed Thumbnails or Handouts in step 2, select a thumbnail size in the Thumbnail size drop-down list and, optionally, select the Page borders check box to show a border around each thumbnail and the Thumbnail titles check box to show titles under each thumbnail. Select All to include all pages. Select Pages to include select pages, and then type the page numbers in the box. Separate individual page numbers with commas and separate page ranges with a hyphen (for example, 1,2,4-7). 7. Press the Printer Setup tab. 8. Specify other print settings, including the printer name and the number of copies. 9. Press Print. Attaching Files to E-mail Messages You can send your file to others by attaching the file, or a PDF version of the file, to an e-mail message. To attach a file to an e-mail message Select File > Send To > Mail Recipient. Your default e-mail program starts, creates a new message and attaches the current file to the message. If you haven t saved the file, SMART Notebook software saves it as a temporary file called untitled.notebook and your e-mail program attaches this temporary file to the e-mail message. 10
To attach a file to an e-mail message as a PDF Select File > Send To > Mail Recipient (as PDF). Your default e-mail program starts, creates a new message and attaches a PDF of the current file to the message. If you haven t saved the file, SMART Notebook software saves the PDF file as a temporary file called untitled.pdf and your e-mail program attaches the temporary file to the e-mail message. Reducing File Sizes If your.notebook files contain large pictures (pictures over 1 MB in file size), your files could open and run slowly. You can reduce the pictures file size without noticeably reducing their quality. As a result, your.notebook files overall file sizes will be smaller and the files will open and run more quickly. To reduce the size of a large picture when inserting it in a file 1. Insert the picture After you press Open, the Image Optimization dialog box appears. 2. Press Optimize to reduce the picture s file size. Press Keep Resolution to not reduce the picture s file size. N O T E: When you insert a BMP file, SMART Notebook software internally converts the file to PNG format. This conversion reduces the size of the file. As a result, you might not need to export an optimized version of the.notebook file even if the BMP file is over 1 MB in size. SMART Notebook software automatically reduces the file size of pictures over 5 MB or 5 megapixels regardless of which option you choose. To reduce the size of a large picture after inserting it in a file 1. Select the picture. 2. Press the picture s menu arrow, and then select Image Optimization. The Image Optimization dialog box appears. 11
3.Click Optimize. To set your preference for inserting large pictures 1. Select Edit > Preferences. The SMART Notebook Preferences dialog box appears. Select Ask every time I insert a large image to have the option of reducing or not reducing large pictures file sizes when you insert them. Select Never change the resolution of inserted images to never reduce large pictures file sizes when you insert them. Select Always change image resolution to optimized file size to always reduce large pictures file sizes when you insert them. 2. Press OK. 12
To export an optimized file 1. Select File > Export Optimized File. The Export Optimized File dialog box appears. 2. Browse to where you want to save the new file. 3. Type a name for the file in the File name box. 4. Press Save. Undoing and Redoing Actions When you make changes to a file, you can reverse the effects of your previous actions and commands. N O T E: If two people are using your interactive product, pressing Undo and Redo affects the actions of both users. To reverse the effect of the last action Press Undo. N O T E: You can undo an unlimited number of actions. To reinstate the last action reversed with the Undo command Press Redo. 13
Changing the default program for.notebook files If you install a SMART program other than SMART Notebook software that can open.notebook files, you can set that program to be the default for.notebook files. If you want, you can change the default program back to SMART Notebook software later. To change the default program when you open a file 1. Open a.notebook file using SMART Notebook software A message appears asking whether you want to change the default program for.notebook files to SMART Notebook software. 2.Press Yes. To change the default program using the Preferences dialog box 1. Select Edit > Preferences. The SMART Notebook Preferences dialog box appears. 2. Press Make Default. 3. If you want a message to appear when you open a.notebook file and your default program isn t SMART Notebook software, select Tell me if SMART Notebook is not the default program for.notebook files. 4. Press OK. 14
Creating and Working with Pages Displaying Pages You can display any page in the file using the Page Sorter. You can display the next or previous page in the file using buttons or gestures. You can zoom in or out when viewing a page. You can also set the page to fit your display or set the page s width to the same width as the display. To display a page 1. If the Page Sorter isn t visible, press Page Sorter. 2. Press the thumbnail of the page you want to display. To display the next page in a file Press Next Page. Swipe your finger across the page from right to left. A message appears, displaying the current page s number. To display the previous page in a file Press Previous Page. Swipe your finger across the page from left to right. A message appears, displaying the current page s number 15
Changing the Page Display You can zoom in and out using the View Screens button or multitouch gestures (if your interactive product supports multitouch gestures). In addition, SMART Notebook software includes the following views: Full Screen view expands the page area to fill the interactive screen by hiding the title bar, toolbar, taskbar and sidebar. Transparent Background view enables you to see the desktop and windows behind the SMART Notebook software window and continue to interact with the open, transparent page. Dual Page view displays two pages side by side. Zooming in and Out You can zoom in and out using the View Screens button or multitouch gestures (if your interactive product supports multitouch gestures). To zoom in or out using the View Screens button 1. Press View Screens. 2. Select a magnification level between 50% and 300%. Select Entire Page to make the entire page fit your display. Select Page Width to set the page s width to the same width as your display. 16
To zoom in or out using multitouch gestures Drag your fingers in opposite directions to zoom in. Drag your fingers toward each other to zoom out. A message appears, displaying the current zoom level. Displaying pages in Full Screen view In Full Screen view, SMART Notebook software expands the page to fill the screen by hiding the other user interface elements. You can access commonly used commands using the Full Screen toolbar. T I P: Before displaying a page in Full Screen view, select View > Full Screen Page Border, and then select the appropriate aspect ratio for your interactive product. A blue line appears, indicating the portion of the page that will appear in Full Screen view without scrolling. This feature is useful when you re creating content that you want to present in Full Screen view. To display a page in Full Screen view Press View Screens, and then select Full Screen. The page expands to fill the screen, hiding the other user interface elements, and the Full Screen toolbar appears. 17
N O T E S The toolbar displays the current page number and the total number of pages in the file. If SMART Response software is installed, additional buttons appear that enable you to insert questions and administer assessments. If you re using a widescreen interactive product and gray bars appear on the sides of the page, you can change the zoom level to the page s width to hide the gray bars by selecting More Options > Page Width. You can return to Full Page view by selecting More Options > Entire Page. To display more toolbar buttons Press Toolbar Options. The toolbar expand s to include the followi ng buttons: Displaying pages in Transparent Background view Using Transparent Background view, you can see the desktop and windows behind the SMART Notebook software window and continue to interact with the open, transparent page. You can draw in digital ink on a transparent page and save your notes in the file. You can also display measurement tools, take screen captures and more. If an area of the screen doesn t include any SMART Notebook software objects, you can select and interact with the desktop and applications behind the SMART Notebook software window. 18
To display a page in Transparent Background view Press View Screens and then select Transparent Background. The background of the SMART Notebook software window becomes transparent, enabling you to see the desktop and program behind SMART Notebook software, but any objects on the.notebook file page remain visible. The Transparent Background toolbar appears. N O T E S The toolbar displays the current page number and the total number of pages in the file. If SMART Response software is installed, additional buttons appear that enable you to insert questions and administer assessments. 19
Getting Started with SMART Ink If your computer is connected to a SMART interactive product, SMART Ink starts automatically when you start your computer and the SMART Ink toolbar appears in the title bar of each open window on your computer. Note: If the toolbar doesn t appear, ensure your interactive product is connected to your computer. If the toolbar still doesn t appear, manually start SMART Ink. To manually start SMART Ink 1. Select Start > All Programs > SMART Technologies. 2. Select SMART Ink. SMART Ink starts and the SMART Ink toolbar appears in the title bar of each open window. Turning off and Turning on SMART Ink When you start your computer and your interactive product, SMART Ink is on by default for all your open windows. At any time, you can turn off or turn on SMART Ink for any window. Objects and notes on the window disappear when you turn off SMART Ink and are restored when you turn on SMART Ink. To turn off SMART Ink 1. Press SMART Ink on the window s SMART Ink toolbar. The SMART Ink tools appear. 2. Select Turn off SMART Ink. The toolbar turns gray. To turn on SMART Ink 1. Press SMART Ink on the window s SMART Ink toolbar. The SMART Ink tools appear. 2. Select Turn on SMART Ink. The toolbar turns green. Accessing SMART Ink Tools A SMART Ink toolbar appears in the title bar of each open window on your computer. Use the toolbar to select ink properties for that window and to perform common tasks such as capturing your notes. 20
The SMART Ink toolbar includes the following tools: When you pick up your SMART interactive product s pen or select a pen tool, a fly-out shows the ink color and the tool. When you use another tool, the fly-out shows the ink color of all the active tools. You can move the toolbar anywhere along the edge of the window. To access SMART Ink tools Press SMART Ink on the toolbar. The SMART Ink tools appear. To move the toolbar 1. Press the move icon. 2. Drag the toolbar to a new location on the edge of the open window. 21
Writing and Drawing with SMART Ink SMART Ink enables you to write or draw digital ink over open application files, folders, websites and any other open window on your computer. You can write with your interactive product s tools or with the drawing tools in the SMART Ink toolbar. T I P: If your interactive product supports multitouch, two people can work together to write, erase or interact with content anywhere on the interactive surface at the same time. To write with your interactive product s tools 1. Pick up a pen from your interactive whiteboard s pen tray or press an ink color button on your interactive pen display. 2.Write over an open file, folder or website on your interactive product. T I P: The ink becomes an object that you can move and manipulate. To write with SMART Ink pen tools 1. Select a pen color and a line thickness from the SMART Ink toolbar. 2. Write over an open file, folder or website on your interactive product. T I P: The ink becomes an object that you can move and manipulate. 3. Press Select on the toolbar when you re done. Otherwise, your interactive product continues interpreting screen touches as pen strokes. To write with calligraphic ink 1. Select a pen color and a line thickness from the SMART Ink toolbar. 2. Select the Calligraphic Ink check box. 3. Write over an open file, folder or website on your interactive product. T I P: The ink becomes an object that you can move and manipulate. 4. Press Select on the toolbar when you re done. Otherwise, your interactive product continues interpreting screen touches as pen strokes. 22
Highlight Content You can highlight any content on your screen. To highlight content on your screen 1. Select a highlighter from the SMART Ink toolbar. 2. Draw over an open file, folder or website on your screen. T I P: The highlighter ink becomes an object that you can move and manipulate. 3.Press Select on the toolbar when you re done. Otherwise, your interactive product continues interpreting screen touches as highlighting. Manipulating SMART Ink Using the tools on the SMART Ink selection border, you can manipulate objects created with SMART Ink. You can select objects and move them around the window, and you can delete objects. To select an object Press the object once. A border appears around the object. Press another object to select more than one. The border expands to include all objects that you select. To move an object 1. Select the object. 2. Drag the object to a new position on the page. To delete an object 1. Select the object. A border appears around the object. 2. Press Delete on the border. 23
Erasing and clearing SMART Ink You can erase or clear SMART Ink from your screen at any time. To erase SMART Ink from a window 1. Select an Eraser from the SMART Ink toolbar. 2. Erase the SMART Ink with your interactive product s eraser. 3. Press Select on the toolbar when you re done. Otherwise, your interactive product continues interpreting screen touches as erasing. To erase a large area 1. Select an Eraser from the SMART Ink toolbar. 2. Circle the area you want to erase, and then tap inside the circle. 3. Press Select on the toolbar when you re done. Otherwise, your interactive product continues interpreting screen touches as erasing. To clear all SMART Ink from a window Select Clear Ink from the SMART Ink toolbar. Capturing and saving SMART Ink You can save whatever you write on your interactive product s screen by taking a screen capture of your notes. To capture and save your notes 1. Press Capture in the SMART Ink toolbar. The screen capture appears in the drawing area of your SMART software. 2. Save your SMART software file. N O T E: If you want to save your notes but you don t want to take a screen capture of the entire screen, you can take a screen capture of an area or a window using the Screen Capture. 24
Inserting SMART Ink in Applications To insert SMART Ink as text 1. Place your cursor where you want the text to appear. 2. Press the SMART Ink object you want to insert. A border appears around the object. 3.Select Insert Ink on the border. Your SMART Ink object is inserted in the file as typed text. Using SMART Ink after you disconnect your interactive product When you disconnect your interactive product, the SMART Ink toolbar turns yellow You can continue using SMART Ink in Mouse mode, or you can hide the toolbars and erase the ink that was on your screen when you disconnected your interactive product. To continue using SMART Ink 1. Press SMART Ink on the toolbar. A drop-down menu appears. 2. Select Keep On. To stop using SMART Ink 1. Press SMART Ink on the toolbar. A drop-down menu appears. 2. Select Erase and Hide. N O T E: To start SMART Ink after you select Erase and Hide, you must connect your SMART interactive product 25
Using application ink tools Many applications, such as Microsoft Office 2010 applications, have their own ink tools that you can use to write in the application s content. N O T E S: Windows 7 operating system supports application ink tools for Microsoft Office 2007 and 2010. Windows XP operating system doesn t support application ink tools for Microsoft Office. Microsoft Office 2004 and earlier don t include application ink tools. When you open an application that has its own ink tools, SMART Ink is on by default and you can write over your application. If you want to write directly in the application s content, you can turn off SMART Ink and use the application ink tools. Objects and notes on the window disappear when you turn off SMART Ink and are restored when you turn on SMART Ink. Using SMART Ink during PowerPoint presentations PowerPoint has its own ink tools. When you start a PowerPoint presentation, SMART Ink is turned off by default and a SMART Ink toolbar for PowerPoint appears. The toolbar enables you to select the previous or next slide in your presentation, or a specific slide, and to display a pointer. It also enables you to access the PowerPoint menu and ink tools, and to end your presentation. You can move the toolbar anywhere on the screen and you can make it transparent. To move the toolbar 1. Press the move icon 2. Drag the toolbar to a new location. To make the toolbar transparent 1. Press SMART Ink The SMART Ink tools appear. 2.Select Transparent Toolbar. To display the previous slide Press Previous To display the next slide Press Next To display specific slide 26
1. Press the slide list icon on the toolbar. A drop-down appears. 2.Select the slide from the drop-down menu. Using the pointer You can display a pointer during your presentation to draw attention to an area. This is especially useful for remote viewers who are using SMART Bridgit software. To display the pointer 1. Press Pointer A message appears, telling you to touch anywhere to set the location of the pointer. 2. Press the part of the presentation you want people to look at. The pointer appears. T I P S: Press anywhere on the presentation to change the location of the pointer. If you want the pointer to change directions as you move your finger around the screen, press the tip of the pointer, and then drag it where you want it to go. If you want the pointer to follow your finger without changing its orientation, press the tail of the pointer, and then drag it where you want it to go. To remove the pointer Press Close on the pointer. Accessing the PowerPoint menu and ink tools Use the SMART Ink toolbar for PowerPoint to access the PowerPoint menu and ink tools during your presentation. To access the PowerPoint menu 1. Press SMART Ink The SMART Ink tools appear. 2.Press PowerPoint Menu. To access the PowerPoint ink tools 1. Press SMART Ink The SMART Ink tools appear. 2.Press PowerPoint Ink Tools. Ending your presentation Use the SMART Ink toolbar for PowerPoint to end your presentation. 27
To end your presentation 1. Press SMART Ink The SMART Ink tools appear. 2. Press End Show. Import or Virtually Print to Software (Another Addon) Using the SMART Notebook Document Viewer 1. Open PowerPoint presentation 2. Click print to open printer options 3. Select the SMART Notebook Document Writer Once selected, the PowerPoint presentation will print onto the SMART Notebook page. Now you can add text, images, and sounds right onto the PowerPoint pages, just as you would a regular SMART Notebook file. SMART Ink Notes When you pick up a pen and write outside of your open windows, a SMART Ink Note appears and you can write inside the note. Your SMART Ink Note grows as you write, in the direction you write. You can move and resize the note. You can also capture it as an image and save it in your SMART software. You can have up to 20 SMART Ink Notes open at a time. When you log off your computer, your notes disappear. The SMART Ink toolbar appears in the title bar of each note. Use the toolbar to select ink properties and perform most common tasks such as capturing your notes. To create a SMART Ink Note 1. Pick up your interactive product s pen or select an ink color button on your interactive pen display. 2. Write on your desktop. A SMART Ink Note appears and you can write inside the note. To move a SMART Ink Note Press and hold the title bar, and then drag the note to a new location. To resize a SMART Ink Note Press and hold the right bottom corner of the note, and then drag it. You can select, move and delete objects you create in SMART Ink Notes. To select an object in a SMART Ink Note Press the object once. A border appears around the object. N O T E: Press another object to select more than one. The border expands to include all objects that you select. To move an object in a SMART Ink Note Press and hold the move icon, and then drag the object to a new location in the note. To delete an object in a SMART Ink Note 1. Press the object once. A border appears around the object. 2.Press Delete on the border. T I P: You can use your interactive product s eraser or the SMART Ink eraser to delete objects. Capturing and saving SMART Ink Notes You can save a SMART Ink Note by taking a screen capture of it. To capture and save a SMART Ink Note 1. Press Capture in the SMART Ink Note toolbar. The screen capture appears in the drawing area of your SMART software. 2.Save your SMART software file. Deleting SMART Ink Notes You can delete a SMART Ink Note from your screen at any time. I M P O R T A N T: This procedure is not reversible. 29
N O T E: When you log off your computer, your SMART Ink Notes disappear. To delete a SMART Ink Note Press Delete in the SMART Ink Note title bar. The SMART Ink Document Viewer You can use the SMART Ink Document Viewer to view your PDF files and to write or draw over your files. You can navigate your file and magnify pages. You can also save and print your file, including your notes. T I P: When you install SMART software, the SMART Ink Document Viewer becomes your default PDF viewer. If you want to use another PDF viewer, right-click the PDF file, and then select Open With. To start the SMART Ink Document Viewer Select Start > All Programs > SMART Technologies > SMART Ink Document Viewer To open a file 1. Press Open File. The Open dialog box appears. 2. Browse to and select the file you want to open. 3. Press Open. To write with pen tools 1. Pick up a pen from your interactive whiteboard s pen tray or press an ink color button on your interactive pen display. 2.Write over your open file. T I P: You can use your SMART software s floating toolbar to change ink properties. Using the SMART Ink Document Viewer toolbar The SMART Ink Document Viewer toolbar contains all the tools you need your PDF file. to view To move the toolbar 1. Press Move A drop down menu appears. 2.Select Top, Bottom, Left or Right. To zoom in or out 30
Press Zoom In or Zoom Out To adjust the magnification and page view settings 1. Press the magnification arrow. A drop down menu appears. 2.Select Fit Page, Fit Width, Two Page View or a magnification percentage. To display the previous page Press Previous Page To display the next page Press Next Page To save a file 1. Press Save The Save As dialog box appears. 2. Browse to where you want to save the file. 3. Type a name for the file in the File name box. 4. Press Save. N O T E: If you wrote over the file, your digital ink saves as a permanent part of your file. When you open the file again later, you re unable to modify the ink. To print a file 1. Press Print. The Print dialog box appears. 2. Select your printer from the Printer drop-down menu. 3. Optionally, adjust the Page Range, Page Scaling and Print Option settings. 4. Press Print. 31
