Calendar of Musical Events - Spring Term 2016 January Wednesday 6 th Tour rehearsal, 16.00-17.45, RR All those on the USA rehearsing the music for the concerts abroad. Thursday 7 th All musical ensembles re-commence at regular times beginning with Junior Orchestra, Tour Choir, and Chamber Choir today. Friday 8 th College Orchestra, 16.15-17.30, RR String sectional this week only; full rehearsals commence on the 15 th January. Tuesday 12 th Tea Time Live XI, 16.30, RR The tea-time live series kicks off this evening; further dates for this term below. Tuesday 12 th Vocal consultation sessions The children will have an opportunity to have a consultation lesson with voice expert, Bronwen Mills Monday 18 th Choral Society recommences, 19.00, RR The first rehearsal of season X; this year s repertoire is Monteverdi s epic 1610 Vespers. The choir is open to anyone without audition and rehearsals take place on Mondays during term time, 19.00-20.30 in the Recital Room. If you would like to join the choir for this event or have any further questions please email the music department or see the website. Rehearsals this season will take place on the following Mondays: Jan 18 th & 25 th, Feb 1 st, 8 th, 29 th, March 7 th. Music is provided and the performance will be a collaboration between the SGC Choirs, St Mark s Consort, and the choir of Charters School, all accompanied by Baroque ensemble. Wednesday 20 th Matilda, Cambridge Theatre, 19.30 Culture Club an evening visit for pupils in years 1-3 to enjoy the spectacular show, Matilda at the Cambridge Theatre, WC2H. For tickets please contact Mr Barton or Ms Chahal.

Thursday 21 st Pre-California tour meeting, Recital Room, 18.30 An opportunity for parents and children to find out more about the 2016 USA choral tour. All on the trip must attend, along with a parent. Thursday 28 th Chamber Music supper, 19.30 A lovely evening of music by candlelight embracing all styles of repertoire from classical to pop via jazz. Bring your supper and wine to enjoy with friends at the same time. February Wednesday 3 rd Portsmouth Cathedral Evensong (tour choir), 18.00 Those involved in the 2016 USA tour will enjoy the opportunity to sing some of their repertoire in the stunning surrounding of Portsmouth Cathedral. Tuesday 9 th California Pre-tour concert, 19.30, St James, Weybridge A super opportunity to hear what the singers have been working on in preparation for their West-Coast USA tour. Friday 12 th Sunday 21 st February USA tour California The choir will represent St George s singing engagements in LA, Santa Maria, and San Francisco. For further details of venues, visit the department website. Saturday 27 th Monday 29 th BBC Songs of Praise School Choir of the Year Competition 2016 Having been selected as semi-finalists, the College Chamber Choir will compete for a place in the finals of the 2016 competition, with episodes of Songs of Praise broadcast on BBC television later in the Spring. The competition and recording takes place on Sunday 28 th February at Sheffield City Hall. Audience and supporters very welcome further details to follow on the department website regarding how to get tickets and timings for the day. Thursday 3 rd March Lunchtime Live: ABC, 13.35, RR An opportunity for pupils to try out pieces in readiness for the forthcoming music exam series. Monday 7 th Final Monteverdi rehearsal, 19.30-21.00 All SGC choirs involved in the 2016 choral project join together for the final choral rehearsal. Wednesday 9 th March Culture Club Cadogan Hall, 19.30 An opportunity to watch the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in concert perform Sibelius violin concerto, and Beethoven s Seventh Symphony under the baton of Eduardo Portal. For concert tickets, please see Mr Mann or Ms Chahal. Friday 11 th March ABRSM exams, all day, RR Sunday 13 th March Monteverdi, Vespers (1610), 19.30, Chapel This year s annual choral concert is the incredible setting of the Vespers by Monteverdi accompanied by a period instrumental ensemble. Rehearsals from 14.30. Thursday 17 th March RE in Primary School Mass, 09.00-11.10 A brilliant celebration of Mass including our UVI pupils and the children that they have been teaching in various local primary schools. Thursday 17 th Spring Concert, Chapel, 19.30 Come and enjoy festive favourites from all the SGC ensembles and choirs. There ll be something for everyone in this concert which will showcase musicians from all years and lots of different styles of music. Friday 18 th St Joseph s Day Masses The school joins together to celebrate mass on this feast day. Monday 21 st March House Music, 19.00-21.00, Recital Room Come and enjoy watching members of Kilmorey, Petre, Southcote, and Stirling battle it out in front of a guest adjudicator to see which house offers the best evening s entertainment.

Musical events at St George s College All evening concerts and musical events at St George s are open to the public and seats are unreserved so we advise arriving in good time. Tickets are not required and generally doors open 15-20 minutes prior to events commencing. Retiring collections are usually taken at evening events and funds are shared between advertised charities and the music department to assist in the staging of future events and projects. Concerts during the school day are open to parents who must sign in at reception before making their way to the advertised concert venue. Masses and services during the school day are for pupils only and not open to the public. TEA-TIME LIVE! The second season of TTL concerts starts on Tuesday 12 th January. All concerts begin at 16.30 and last for between 40-50 minutes; they take place either in the Recital Room or Chapel. No tickets are required and tea & biscuits are available from 16.15. After school rehearsals usually finish at 17.30 or 17.45 though pupils should check at the start of each term. Ensembles are open to all pupils regardless of where they undertake their instrumental / vocal lessons.

Sunday 13 March 2016 Monteverdi Vespers (1610) All are welcome to join the choir for this concert which begins at 19.00 St George s College Choral Society is open to anyone who would like to participate in this concert. The Choir rehearses on Monday evenings from 18 th January 2016, 1900-2030 in the College Recital Room. No experience necessary just plenty of enthusiasm! Music will be available.
