2. Connections The following is a quick guide on how to activate DNA Broadband subscriptions using different technologies. For more detailed, vendor-specific instructions, see the user guide included with the terminal device and also the vendor s Web site. 2.2. Wireless terminal devices (WLAN) Define the settings according to the device manufacturer s instructions. Also remember to set up the security features. Note: An open WLAN base station is an information security risk if appropriate security settings have not been made. 2.1. Installation of ADSL and VDSL terminal devices 1. Connect the cable included with the device to the modem s WAN port (RJ11, the smaller connector) and the other end to the tele socket. If a landline tele is used for the same line as the broadband subscription, connect the tele to the socket via a filter. 2. Connect the LAN cable (RJ45, larger connector) to the modem s LAN port and the other end to the network interface card of your computer. 3. VDSL only: Plug in the filters included to all tele sockets in the apartment. 4. ADSL only: Plug in a filter between all s and sockets in the apartment. 5. Plug the power source in to an electrical socket, with the other end attached to the modem s power connection. 6. If necessary, switch on the power to the modem from its power switch. 7. Check the modem s indicator lights to see whether the broadband connection becomes active, following the manufacturer s instructions. 8. Start your computer. 9. Your broadband connection is now ready for use. 2.3. Installing a cable modem 1. Connect the antenna cable (coaxial cable) included with the device to the cable modem s CABLE port (threaded connector at the end of the cable). 2. Connect the other end of the cable to the antenna socket s TV connection. If a television set or other device using the TV antenna connection is to be connected to the same socket, a Y adapter must be connected to the socket. Then connect the cable modem s and TV receiver s antenna cables to this. 3. Connect the LAN cable (RJ45) to the cable modem s ETHERNET port and the other end to the network interface card of your computer. 4. Plug the modem s power source in to an electrical socket, and attach the other end to the modem s power connection. 5. The modem s indicator lights begin to flash. This phase may take several minutes the first time. 6. When the CABLE or CABLE LINK indicator light is on continuously, your broadband connection is ready for use. 7. Start your computer. The modem s ETH indicator light should turn on. 8. Your broadband connection is now ready for use. 2.4. Activating DNA Broadband in housing companies where a terminal device is not needed If your subscription contract includes a note that you do not need a separate terminal device for your broadband subscription, you can activate your subscription as follows: Connect your flat s cross-connection board (apartment MDF) to the room in which you wish to use your broadband connection. If you wish the connection to be operable in more than one room at a time, you will need a separate switch and network cables. Bedroom1 Bedroom2 Living room Entrance 3. Connect the network cable(s) from the terminal device s LAN port to the cross-connection board, to the desired room. 4. Connect the terminal device s power cable to a socket. 5. Turn the terminal device s power switch on. 6. Check the terminal device s indicator lights to see whether the broadband connection becomes active according to the manufacturer s instructions. 7. If necessary for example, if the terminal device s lights indicate a problem in the WAN connection move the connecting fibre to the next available blue fibre port in the optical fibre cable s terminal box. 8. Your broadband subscription is now ready for use. 2.5. Installing a fibre Ethernet terminal device in detached houses 1. Cross-connection board. Network cables to the rooms. 2. Cable. TV cables to the rooms. 3. Terminal box for the optical fibre (delivered by DNA when DNA Access Cable is connected). 4. Cable TV media converter (delivered by DNA when the DNA Cable TV subscription is connected). 5. Power cable (included with the terminal device). 6. Fibre Ethernet terminal device (to be acquired by the customer). Installation instructions for a fibre Ethernet terminal device 1. Install the terminal device in the cabinet in the property s electrical room, at which the DNA Real Estate Cable connection was terminated (a fixed installation is recommended). See the device s user guide for detailed installation instructions. 2. Connect one end of the connection fibre to the terminal device s WAN port and the other end to an available blue fibre socket in the optical fibre s terminal box. 3. Troubleshooting and solutions If you experience problems in the installation phase or with the operation of the broadband connection, check the following: Check that the connections have been made according to the instructions. Also take the instructions included with the terminal device into consideration. Make sure that the power cord has been plugged in to a live socket correctly. Make sure that the Ethernet network cable is correctly connected. Check that the cable connections are correct. Make sure that all landline s are connected behind a filter. When using a VDSL connection, make sure that all sockets are equipped with an interference filter. A socket without a filter may cause interference in broadband operations. If your flat has more than one tele socket, test the functioning of the connection through all of them. If the problem persists, check everything once more. Keep the terminal switched on, and call our technical support line. Keep the service agreement to hand; it will expedite solving the problem. For more information, visit www.dna.fi. NOTE: Handle the connection fibre carefully. Do not make sharp bends in the fibre, and try to keep the ends of the fibre clean. Avoid direct visual contact with the ends. 8 9
