Job Title: Lead Practitioner Science KS4 Salary: L3 L7 Position Overview Responsible to: Director of Science. Teacher of Science Key purposes: a) To carry out the professional duties of a teacher as described in the most recent School Teachers Pay and Conditions Document. b) To undertake the duties of form tutor and a member of a House team Key responsibilities: a) To deliver consistently outstanding teaching b) To fulfil a leadership role in developing, implementing and evaluating policies within the Science department and across the school in practical ways that contribute to school improvement. c) To assist other colleagues in raising standards and improving the standard of teaching and learning d) To lead the development of good practice across the school Teaching To fulfil all the requirements and duties set out in the current Pay and Conditions Documents relating to the conditions of employment for teachers, as well as the relevant standards for teachers. To teach and ensure exceptional progress for all pupils assigned to him/her in the allocated classes. To follow all school policies in relation to teaching, learning and assessment and the care and management of students and health and safety, and to contribute to this development. To undertake pastoral duties as required with due regard to all policies and procedures relating to: attendance, progress, pastoral welfare and management. To take part in Appraisal procedures. To maintain continuous professional development. To be a form tutor and carry out the duties of this role if required. To attend and contribute to subject department meetings. To work with teachers from other departments to share good practice. To contribute to writing scheme of work and developing resources as directed by the Head of Faculty.

Curriculum To lead and support the development of teaching and learning in Science in conjunction with the agreed aims and policies of the school, particularly at KS4 in general Science A and Additional. To lead staff development in modelling verbal communication and its importance. To promote teaching and learning styles which stimulate learning interest and student involvement in Science and other subjects. To ensure that teaching and learning methods are inclusive within Science. To investigate, research and respond to initiatives in Science teaching and learning at national, regional and local levels and to disseminate findings to this Curriculum Area. Staff Development To be an exemplary practitioner of teaching skills, and to lead the improvement of teaching skills. To model outstanding planning, assessment and teaching to enable all staff within the school to achieve high quality teaching, effective use of resources and the highest standards of learning and achievement for all pupils. Lead the Science Department in developing using and assessing the impact of in class/general interventions. To liaise effectively with colleagues and SLT to ensure consistency of approach in teaching and learning across the school particularly at KS4. To work with the Deputy Head (Professional Practices) to ensure that staff development needs are identified and addressed. To work with the Director of Science to ensure that staff development needs are identified and addressed. To contribute to Appraisal processes, acting as a reviewer for staff as appropriate. To support trainee teachers and NQTs where requested by the headteacher. To assist with the recruitment and appointment of staff within Science. To deputise in the absence of the Director of Science, if required. To assist and support staff who are experiencing difficulties within the classroom across the school. Prepare and run professional development courses for staff. Design programmes of support for individuals at KS4. Provide model lessons both in terms of being observed and in terms of lesson plans. Support colleagues in developing strategies to improve outcomes for pupils having difficulties, including individuals/groups that are under attaining or are at risk of doing so. Be proactive in seeking out networks and research in order to identify best practice and keep colleagues up-to-date with the latest developments.

Self-Evaluation and Planning To support the Director of Science with self-evaluation procedures and development plan processes related to teaching and learning in line with school procedures within Science. To develop exemplar portfolios of student work, lesson plans and other teaching and learning resources. To contribute and adhere to the school procedures for lesson observations and learning walks. To evidence the impact of interventions used in Science, particularly KS4. Leadership To support the Director of Science in addressing teaching and learning issues that arise from the monitoring and analysis of student performance data and ensure that action is followed up. Motivate, challenge and inspire colleagues to provide outstanding provision for our pupils, leading to outstanding outcomes. Be an outstanding role model for pupils and for staff, by classroom practice and behaviour that sets a standard for others. Work with colleagues to develop an innovative and creative curriculum designed around the particular needs of our pupils. Develop a coherent, shared vision for learning through teamwork, collaboration and sharing of best practice, ensuring a consistent approach to teaching. Use data analysis to identify trends in attainment and to identify individuals/groups that are under attaining or are at risk of doing so. Identify patterns of attainment. Use data analysis to identify areas where individuals/groups of colleagues or the whole school may need support in order to improve outcomes for pupils. Support or lead strategies for accelerating the progress for particular individuals or groups of underachieving pupils. Communications To ensure that all members of the Curriculum Area are familiar with the teaching and learning aims and objectives of the Curriculum Area and the school. To ensure effective communication as appropriate with Science staff and the wider staff. To contribute to the development of effective links with partner schools, colleges, external agencies and the community; attending necessary liaison events to promote the school at Open Days/Evenings and other events in the wider community if required. Essential Job Functions

To undertake the teaching of Sociology as laid down by the Assistant Head Learning Experience and the Head of Sociology To have a clear understanding of the English National Curriculum To ensure that schemes of work are covered as appropriate to the individual class. To inform the Head of Sociology where problems arise. To ensure that appropriate and varied teaching styles are utilised with each group. To carefully monitor the progress of students on the special needs referral process, notifying the Additional Educational Needs Department and Head of Sociology of any problems. To adhere to the policies set out in the Staff and other relevant handbooks, especially the Teaching and Learning policy. Promote AfL through all teaching ensuring that students are receiving concise guidance on how to improve their learning. To adhere to and implement, according to school policy, all required reporting of student progress and attendance at relevant Parents Evenings.
