Edmonton Catholic Schools is now accepting applications for the position of FAMILY SCHOOL LIAISON SOCIAL WORKER (Existing position) Edmonton Catholic Schools is a large urban school district whose mission is to provide a Catholic education that inspires students to learn and that prepares them to live fully and to serve God in one another. The District is comprised of over 37,000 students and 3,400 employees in 88 schools and other sites. The District requires a Family School Liaison Worker at the School of Alternative Education to provide on-going support to students who have behavioural/emotional disorders in accordance with Alberta Education. The incumbent s primary responsibility is intervention and support to a determined caseload of high-risk youth and their families. The Social Worker will support the social, emotional and academic needs of students and help to create an environment where a student can be successful as well as achieve open communication and consistency between home and school. The position addresses identified psychological issues that have been impacting the student s performance at school. A registered Social Worker is hired for this position because of their professional expertise and comprehensive approach to the multi-dimensional issues facing adolescents such as: mental health, addictions, poverty, family dynamics and criminal issues. Efficacy of support and results will be measured through increased grades, increased attendance, fewer behavioural issues, as well as feedback from students, their families and teachers. This is a 12 month, Out of Scope, Level 5, full-time position with a salary range of $63,998-$79,997 to commence October 1, 2014. Conduct individualized assessments of students in consultation with the parents, guardians and the school to determine the level of service required in each case 2. Establish action plans and implement goals with students to address identified areas using Individualised Program Plans as well as district assessments. 3. Communicate, information pertaining to progress with students, parents, guardians, school staff and other stakeholders through weekly meetings. 4. Provide counselling services to students, families and staff including referral to appropriate resources, program placement and completion of academic intellectual testing. 5. Provide crisis intervention to students and families including involvement of Children s Services, Edmonton Police Service, Alberta Justice and Capital Health Services 6. Refer students and families to appropriate programs and supports to address identified needs. 7. Monitor and document impact of supports, as well as provide a year-end summary and recommendations, including program placement if needed. 8. Liaise with schools and families to facilitate increased positive contact through communication and understanding of individual student needs and circumstances. 13. Participate on multi-disciplinary educational teams to provide a broad range of support to students and families. 15. Ability to assess for or provide interim supports to students and families who are waiting for ongoing service providers. Willing and able to make referrals to appropriate delegated agencies (i.e. Alberta Human Services - Children s and Family Services. or Edmonton Police Services) where deemed necessary. Able to advocate for client services when difficulties regarding accessibility are encountered. Provide and access peer support from other Registered Social Workers within the District. Where appropriate involve leadership teams that include consultants, principals, and School Operation Services in finding solutions.
