ASSISTANT SUPERVISOR, ELECTRONIC PROJECTS (New position) Edmonton Catholic Schools is a large urban school district whose mission is to provide a Catholic education that inspires students to learn and that prepares them to live fully and to serve God in one another. The District is comprised of over 39,000 students and 3,500 employees in 89 schools and other sites. The job supports the delivery of electronic services to the district by planning, diagramming, scheduling, conducting on-site inspections, and facilitating and coordinating project participants. The job s main focus is to manage requests from all district sites pertaining to electronic maintenance projects, or modernization projects from start to completion by implementing cost effective measures. The job is also responsible for documentation of electronic systems, projects and will assist with the installation and maintenance of electronic systems as required. The job directly supervises ten staff members and oversees the work performed by multiple private sector contractors. This is a 12 month, Out of Scope, Level 5, full-time position with a salary range of $65,534- $81,930 to commence as soon as possible. Note: This job will work a 40 hour week; as a result, a modifier of $9, to $11, will be applied to the annual base salary. Primary Duties and Responsibilities: Coach, train and mentor ten subordinate staff including; assign, delegate and evaluate work of team members to ensure it is completed correctly and within established standards and timelines; Monitor contractor s progress and prepare records and reports to document and track project cost, schedules, quality assurance tests and materials approvals; prepare documentation and make recommendations; Ensure work is done incompliance with Occupational Health and Safety legislation, standard operating procedures and building codes; Monitor and track project budgets, including manpower and materials, to ensure accurate and responsible use of funds within timelines and project estimates; Participate as a member of a project planning and design team; utilize independent judgment and input from team members to develop plans and resources; implement and evaluate projects on completion; Work with Information and Infrastructure Technology Services to prepare schools for the configuration and operation of a wide-range of technology; Produce systems documentation and infrastructure diagrams; develop, update and maintain paper and computerized files, record and databases for electronics systems; Identify problems through on-site inspections and determine alternatives for corrective action and present recommendations to supervisor for resolution; Assist with department projects and other duties as assigned. Qualifications: High school diploma, plus valid qualification as a journeyman electronic technician, or a graduate in electronics/communication from a technical institute with indenture as an apprentice electronic technician; Five years of directly related experience including project management and team leadership; Knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety Legislation, and regulations, Workplace Hazardous Material Information System, Transportation of Dangerous Goods, building codes and architectural practices; Knowledge of tendering process, inventory control principles and practices, basic accounting and financial policies and procedures; Strong supervisory and leadership skills; Strong assessment skills with proven troubleshooting techniques with the ability to work with minimal service information. The incumbent has the authority to make approximately 90% of decision independently. The job has the authority to determine if work is being done outside of OH & S regulations and to issue a stop work order. Overall, decisions often require innovation and creativity to resolve problems. The incumbent has the authority to negotiate electronic project costs and identifies inconsistences in invoicing and service provided. The job also works with project budgets and has the authority to allocate resources to obtain the desired outcome. The incumbent has contact with principals, administrators, teachers and staff in providing services to meet their respective needs. If the request isn t possible or financially feasible the incumbent identifies alternatives and advises the principal of options. Included in this responsibility is the direct supervision of nine tradesmen, as well as numerous contractors performing a variety of construction related tasks on numerous sites (104). The job collaborates with Facilities Services staff on the coordination of work schedules, school up-grade projects, Infrastructure and Maintenance Renewal (IMR) Projects, modernization and specialty projects. The job also collaborates with I & ITS to ensure technology is operational and accessible.
