Steinbeis Business Academy The Steinbeis Business Academy has about 2000 enrolled students and more than 50 seminar locations nationwide. Due to our long-term partnerships with industry and commerce we can offer a wide range of courses. The Steinbeis Business Academy is located in the Technology Region Karlsruhe, Germany and is the largest institute within the Steinbeis University Berlin. Steinbeis programmes combine theory with practice. During their studies our students complete a company project, fully supported by the university. M.A. MASteR of ARtS in MAnAGeMent MBA MASteR of BUSineSS ADMiniStRAtion Our two year Master programmes are international programmes addressing core business disciplines from a global perspective with an emphasis on General Management. The programme is designed in English for students with work experience. Six short stays in four countries help students to expand their international network base. During these stays, classes are taught in English by a faculty from well-known universities around the world. M.A. or MBA? The MBA programme is open to managers from all areas of industry, with a university degree and a minimum of two years experience in leadership. The M.A. programme is aimed at highly motivated and committed junior managers from different areas of industry who already have a university degree. SBA 3

Your benefit - Project Competence Concept Siemens employee and student Bora Yücel The Siemens specific program at Steinbeis creates value not only for the individual s academic development but also for the sector the trainee is working in within Siemens. The General Management program allows the student to write department specific case studies which have direct application into the work environment. The Steinbeis University believes strongly in a concept we call the Project Competence Programme (German: PKS). The key priority throughout: a constant focus on business needs, underpinned by a solid grounding in academic and scientific theory. During their studies, participants work on live projects at the company sponsoring their study. Their project is subsequently implemented within the business. This innovative concept goes way beyond conventional degrees: projects are designed to facilitate integrated transfer, whereby the students gain new skills during their studies and apply their new knowledge in everyday business. Apart from linking directly to vocational requirements, this opens up new avenues to innovation, competitive advantage and improved profitability. The projects offer added value for your company e.g. cost savings or improvements in productivity. They allow students to specialise in specific areas, promoting their individual goals for the programme. topics of PRoJeCt titles (examples) Introduction of a balanced scorecard in a company Establish a financial analysis system for a logistics company Quality control systems for the production branch through a value analysis Diversity management and its implementation in the human resources and organisational development of a service company SBA 4

Added value for the customer/company The study programme allows companies to systematically enable their future managers to handle the challenges of business in the 21st century. Participating employees extend their professional expertise through a combination of solid academic education and practical project work. As a result, the study programme is an investment in existing personnel and a sophisticated recruiting tool for young talents. Course assessments Matthias Zutter, Siemens employee and student The interaction between practice and theory allows me to enhance my knowledge in both areas and the network with other Siemens trainees offers a high potential for knowledge transfer and collaboration inside of Siemens. Siemens benefits from the possibility to offer an attractive trainee program and therefore recruit the best talents in the decreasing and competitive labor force market. The two-year Master Degree programme at Steinbeis delivers interactive lessons combined with basic theory, case studies, colloquia and simulations. The following modules are compulsory: Project Management Strategy Entrepreneurship Leadership & Competencies I & II HR Management Micro-/ Macroeconomics Accounting and Corporate Finance Market Analysis International Management Law Cross-Cultural Management the FoLLoWinG ASSeSSMentS ARe UnDeRtAKen Exams, transfer papers, case studies, project study papers, colloquia and Master s Thesis. Subsequently the knowledge gained from lectures during the study phases can be adapted into the transfer papers, case studies and project study paper (German: PSA). The project study papers are project and company related, and are a key tool for completing the project work. They form an excellent basis for the Master s Thesis due to the scientific approach used and the continual development of the project in the workplace. SBA 6

Proof of academic The following graphic demonstrates a possible way to integrate project study papers in a real project at a company. The students have to write five PSAs from a scientific point of view in order to address a business related issue. In this way the project is looked at from every angle. Social and communications skills operational competence intercultural competence Leadership ability and management ability Creating competent leaders Competence develops in time, from the focused application of knowledge and theory to real business situations. In this programme students acquire the competence they need to become effective managers and leaders through the process of applying what they learn and reflecting on the outcomes in their assessment papers. Layer upon layer of management competence is created as students complete the basic modules and specialised management subjects and gain invaluable experience of how to effectively apply this knowledge.
