Regulatory and Administrative Provisions Faculties New version of the study and examination regulations for the Master s programme Innovation Management and Entrepreneurship at Faculty VII Economics and Management at the Technische Universität Berlin dated 15 October 2014 In accordance with Section 18 paragraph 1 no. 1 of the Constitution of the Technische Universität Berlin, Section 71 paragraph 1 no. 1 of the law on higher education institutions in the state of Berlin (Berlin Higher Education Act: BerlHG) in the version of 26 July 2011 (GVBl. [Law and Ordinance Gazette] p. 378), the Faculty Council of Faculty VII Economics and Management at the Technische Universität Berlin adopted the following study and examination regulations for the Master s programme Innovation Management and Entrepreneurship on 15 October Contents I. General provisions Section 1 Section 2 Area of application Coming into force/going out of force II. Aims and structure of the study programme Section 3 Section 4 Section 5 Qualification aims, content and areas of professional activity Start of studies, usual duration and scope of studies Structure of the programme III. Requirements and conduct of examinations Section 6 Section 7 Section 8 Section 9 Section 10 Aim of the Master s examination Master s degree Scope of Master s examination; how the overall grade is constituted Master s thesis Examination forms and registration for examinations IV. Annexes Annex I: Annex II: Module list Sample study plan I. General provisions Section 1 Area of application These study and examination regulations apply to the aims and structure of the study programme and the requirements and conduct of examinations in the Master s programme Innovation Management and Entrepreneurship. They supplement the general regulations on study and examination procedures at the Technische Universität Berlin in relation to specific study programmes. Section 2 Coming into force/going out of force (1) These regulations come into force in the summer semester (2) The study and examination regulations for the Master s programme Innovation Management and Entrepreneurship of 15 July 2009 (AMBl [Gazette] TU p. 193) in the amended version of 13 April 2011 (AMBl TU p. 18) still apply for students who are already enrolled, if they are not merged with the new study and examination regulations; however they go out of force in the winter semester 2018/2019. Students who have not completed their studies when the regulations go out of force in accordance with clause 1 shall continue their studies in accordance with the regulations set out here. (3) Students who were enrolled on the Innovation Management and Entrepreneurship programme at the Technische Universität Berlin before these study and examination regulations come into force shall decide under which regulations they would like to continue their studies when they register for the next module examination. This decision may not be revoked and shall be documented at the relevant central university administration office.
4 II. Aims and structure of the study programme Section 3 Qualification aims, content and areas of professional activity (1) The academic content of the Innovation Management and Entrepreneurship study programme are intended to equip the students with the more profound theoretical and relevant practical knowledge and skills necessary for a successful professional career, to reinforce their power of judgement by practice in scientific thinking and to expand their awareness of the responsibility of individuals in society. (2) These aims are to be achieved through an interdisciplinary internationally-focused programme which takes as its starting point social, economic and social science issues relating to theory and practice. (3) Students on the Innovation Management and Entrepreneurship programme will learn above all the fundamental principles of innovation management and entrepreneurship. This includes all issues on operative, tactical and strategic levels relevant to founding new businesses and in R&D. Graduates of the programme are able to tackle issues independently, assess research positions and findings competently and in detail and apply them to their own research. This is achieved by linking a range of topic areas from economics and social science. (4) The theoretical aspects of the programme include teaching principles and interrelationships in the relevant academic disciplines, independent logical and analytical thinking and the ability to examine new research-oriented issues independently and critically. (5) The practice-related aspects of the programme include among other things - gaining knowledge of structures, processes, legal provisions etc., putting theory increasingly into practice through relevant projects and developing the ability to prepare sensible solutions using incomplete information and under time pressure. Team work is also increasingly promoted. (6) Graduates of the Innovation Management and Entrepreneurship study programme are employed in many areas of the economy and in public service. The programme s wide range prepares them for a wide variety of professional fields. Some typical professional fields include: - Research/development - Innovation management - Teaching and research/the academic field - Marketing - Organisation and company planning - Human resources - Resource management and environmental management - Management consultancy - Corporate management These professional fields also offer a range of starting points for setting up one s own company later, e.g. in management consultancy or through partnerships with other companies. Section 4 Start of studies, usual duration and scope of studies (1) The programme starts in the winter semester. (2) The usual duration including writing the Master s thesis is four semesters. (3) The scope of the programme is 120 credit points. (4) The teaching programme and all examination procedures are structured so that students can complete the programme within the usual duration. Section 5 Structure of the programme (1) Students have the right to plan their study schedule individually. However they are required to comply with the provisions of these study and examination regulations. The recommended module sequence is shown in the sample study schedule in the annex to these regulations. Irrespective of that, some constraints also arise from the definition of admission requirements for the modules. (2) A total of 120 credit points must be achieved, of which at least 90 credit points must be achieved in the modules and 30 credit points in the Master s thesis. The structure of the required credit points may differ for students taking dual degree programmes; this is regulated in the conditions for the relevant dual degree agreement
5 (3) Teaching units are principally held in English. (4) The compulsory area comprises 24 credit points. The compulsory modules may be seen on the module list (Annex 1). (5) The compulsory elective area comprises 36 credit points. The compulsory elective modules may be seen on the module list (Annex 1). Modules at other universities and equivalent higher education institutions within the area of application of the German Framework Act for Higher Education (HRG) may be recognised if they are of equal value. (6) The elective area comprises 30 credit points which are to be completed during a stay abroad except in cases of particular hardship. They must be in the fields of management, innovation management, entrepreneurship, business administration, economics and industrial engineering and management. Faculty VII advises and supports students in selecting the university and planning their study schedule. a) Students who are studying under a dual degree agreement gain equivalent credits at the partner university abroad as regulated in the relevant agreement. b) Students who are not studying under a dual degree agreement may gain equivalent credits at recognised foreign universities and HEIs. The examination committee decides on the equivalence of the credits and how they are allocated. c) In cases of particular hardship, student who cannot complete this part of their studies abroad for particular health, family, disability-related or social reasons may complete their credits at the Technische Universität Berlin or other universities and equivalent HEIs within the area of application of the German Framework Act for Higher Education (HRG). The examination committee decides on whether a case of particular hardship exists. III Requirements and conduct of examinations Section 6 Objective of the Master s examination The Master s examination determines whether a candidate has achieved the qualification aims in accordance with Section 3 of these regulations. Section 7 Master s degree (1) Students who have passed the Master s examination are awarded the degree of Master of Science (M.Sc.) by the Technische Universität Berlin through the Faculty of Economics and Management. (2) Students who take their Master s examination within a dual degree agreement are awarded the degree of Master of Science (M.Sc.) by the Technische Universität Berlin through the Faculty of Economics and Management. The partner university will award the relevant academic degree of their university. Section 8 Scope of Master s examination; how the overall grade is constituted (1) The Master s examination comprises the module examinations listed in the module list (Annex 1) and the Master s thesis in accordance with Section 9. (2) The overall grade is constituted in accordance with the principles of Section 47 paragraph 6 of the general Study and Examination regulations (AllgStuPO), whereby in each of the three areas in accordance with Section 5 paragraph 4 the module with the lowest grade will not be taken into account. Section 9 Master s thesis (1) The Master s thesis is usually completed in the fourth semester. It comprises 30 credit points; the time required is 20 weeks. The chair of the examination committee may grant a postponement of the deadline of up to 12 weeks for sufficient reason. (2) To apply for admission to the Master s thesis at the TU Berlin, the candidate must submit proof of all completed module examinations comprising at least 48 credit points at the TU Berlin and 30 credit points at recognised foreign HIEs and universities to the responsible Central University Administration office. (3) The Master s thesis topic may be returned once, but only within the first twelve weeks after it was issued by the responsible Central University Administration office. (4) The procedure for applying for admission and for the assessment of final theses are set down in the version of the AllgStuPO applicable at that time.
6 (5) Under dual degree agreements, the Master s thesis can be completed at the foreign partner university. The requirement is a stay in accordance with Section 5 paragraph 6 no. a. The partner university s relevant conditions apply, which have been recognised by the Technische Universität in the agreement. Section 10 Examination types and examination registration Examination types and the procedure for registering for module examinations is set down in the version of the AllgStuPO applicable at that time.
