2 Financial and Managerial Cooperating Institutions The Master in Financial and Managerial offered by the IMB Institute of Management Berlin at the Berlin School of Economics and Law takes an international approach to combining theory and practice in providing broad business administration skills focused on international financial reporting standards as well as on managerial accounting. It is primarily designed for graduates from Vietnam who have completed a career-oriented first degree (Bachelor) and would like to study for a post-graduate degree awarded by a renowned German university. The programme prepares students for positions as accounting and controlling specialists or executive managers in consulting or auditing firms or in international companies. Berlin School of Economics and Law The Berlin School of Economics and Law is one of the largest Universities of Applied Sciences in Germany offering courses in private and public sector business administration and economics. It can demonstrate over 30 years of expertise and has long established a profile as a leading business school that emphasises the link between management theory and practice. Professors, lecturers and external teaching staff have hands-on management experience in leadership roles. Banking Academy of Vietnam The Banking Academy of Vietnam (BAV), established in 1961 in Hanoi, is a state university, governed by the State Bank of Vietnam and the Ministry of Education and Training. At present, over 20,000 students at all levels can study five training majors, from Banking and Finance to, Business Administratiom, Economic Information Systems, and English. Supported by Ho Chi Min City Open University Ho Chi Minh City Open University (HCMCOU) was founded in 1990 to offer an open training. It provides a variety of training programmes from undergraduate to postgraduate, ranging from on-site to distance learning or learning at satellite academic centers, designed to respond to diverse learning needs. 3 Key Facts Programme Part-time Duration 4 semesters Start 1 December each year (Winter term) Study Location Banking Academy of Vietnam in Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City Open University Structure The Master programme is basically divided into two parts: 1st study term (11 months): Foundation Course 2nd study term (13 months): Specialisation and Master s Thesis The Foundation Course (worth a total of 39 Credit Points) enables students to extend their knowledge acquired during their undergraduate studies to develop further expertise in Financial and Managerial and related subjects. In addition, a range of additional courses are provided by the electives and tutorials. The Specialisation (worth a total of 21 Credit Points) builds on the Foundation Course to provide the specialised skills to meet the challenges in the chosen career sector. A Case Study / Research Project enables students to apply their new theoretical knowledge in practice. Language of Instruction English Mode of Delivery All core modules are organised as blocked courses. Each module (64 contact hours) will be provided by experienced German professors within the time frame of nine days (four framing weekend days, each with 11 contact hours, five working days with four hours each). Tutorials will be more flexibly organised as contact hours are mainly supported via blended learning technologies. Students might expect an average workload of 20 hours per week. MA Degree The Berlin School of Economics and Law awards successful students on this programme the internationally recognised Master of Arts (M. A.) degree. The Master degree is worth a total of 90 Credit Points. Fees The tuition fees for the complete programme total US $ 7,500 (subject to change), payable in two instalments. The fees cover: All study courses / study materials (readers / handouts, e-media), Master events, Cost of registration, assessment and administration. In addition to the completion of the specialisation modules, this study term is scheduled for completing the degree by submitting the Master s Thesis and defending it in an oral exam. 4 Admission Application General Requirements A first degree in Business or Economics (minimum of 180 credit points or a four-year Bachelor). Applicants with a Bachelor in Social Sciences, Economics and Law may be admitted if they can demonstrate substantial practical experience and a solid academic basis in accounting. Students with other foreign Bachelor degrees may be admitted if they are entitled to study a Masters Programme at the Vietnamese Partner University and meet all other admission requirements Evidence of having successfully completed undergraduate courses in Financial and/or Managerial Good English language skills Letter of motivation with Curriculum Vitae in English One year of relevant professional experience preferably in close context with one of the major subjects of the study programme Successfully passed application interview Based on the recommendations of the Vietnamese partners, the final decision on admissions is taken by the IMB admission committee.
