General overview of the project Objectives Facilitating the take up of distributed solar energy and energy efficiency in the target regions, by achieving an effective cooperation and by raising public awareness on the benefits for the environment and local development Removing barriers related to the legal, regulatory, economic and organizational framework for distributed solar energy technologies Spreading solar energy and energy efficiency through the definition of innovative financial schemes and market stimulation tools Numbers of partners: 9 Countries involved: Italy, Spain, Tunisia, Egypt, Lebanon Budget: 4.655.007 Duration: 35 months (Jan 2013 Dec 2015)

Key results achieved I Pilot actions 3 innovative tailored financial mechanisms for the diffusion of distributed solar energy technologies in MPC 3 solar ordinances for pilot municipalities (Hammam-Sousse, Tyre, Egypt) 4 pilot training courses on distributed solar technologies, addressed to vocational school trainers in MPC and to professionals in Italy (Puglia Region) 3 pilot training courses on solar ordinances in Egypt, Tunisia and Lebanon and 3 pilot training initiatives on new financial mechanisms in Egypt, Tunisia and Lebanon Capacity building activities 2 study visits to ENEA laboratories (Italy) addressed to experts 3 workshops The quality supply chain of solar photovoltaic in MPC Capitalization events: Seville (Spain), Naples (Italy), Cairo (Egypt), Tunis (Tunisia) Synergies with other projects: Participation to ENPI events and diffusion of other ENPI project news through the MED-DESIRE website

Key results achieved II Main indicators reached 5 capacity building initiatives (3 workshops + 2 study visites) / 65 participants to the capacity building initiatives (ongoing activity) 7 training initiatives (over 10) / 145 participants to the different training courses (ongoing activity) 4 capitalization events (over 6) 12 technical missions in the MPCs involving 50 stakeholders 60 local stakeholders (banks, local or national agencies and technical bodies, universities, training institutions) involved in capitalization and technical activities (ongoing activities) 200 companies and business organizations involved in capitalization events and B2B meetings (ongoing activities)

Impact Applications MED-DESIRE qualification scheme focused on the PV module performance A financial instrument dedicated to medium-size photovoltaic installations in Tunisia A technology-neutral financial instrument dedicated to Municipalities and Union of Municipalities in Lebanon An incentive scheme for Solar Water Heater in the domestic sector in Egypt A tailored solar ordinance for pilot municipalities in Tunisia, Egypt and Lebanon Transferred good practices A certified curriculum for training of trainers on solar PV Successful awareness raising formats to promote energy efficiency and solar energy

Impact Quantified target groups and population involved Central and local administrations, institutions and agencies involved in capitalization and technical activities (ongoing activities): 100 Local SMEs and professionals: 200 Financial institutions: 20 Business support organizations, entrepreneurial associations and industrial districts: 40 Population involved in awareness raising, communication and capitalization activities (ongoing activities): 30,000

Sustainability beyond the project Transferred good practices A certified curriculum for training of trainers on solar PV to be adopted in all vocational schools Awareness raising format to be replicated in all countries and for different kind of topics Local/International Agreements LCEC-LIBNOR / IRI / ENEA /General Directorate of Vocational and Technical Education NREA - AAE Synergies with other initiatives or projects: MED-DESIRE has built strong partnerships with all the local stakeholders that will surely continue even after the project conclusion
