IYDA Mission: IYDA promotes peace among fellow nation s key competences in terms of intercultural understanding through youth participation and civic education. Introduction The "Intercultural Youth Dialogue Association" (IYDA) was established in 2009 by a group of highly-motivated young Egyptians. Since 2009, IYDA has risen to a wellestablished organization, registered at the Egyptian Ministry of Social Solidarity as a non-profit, nongovernmental organization with the no. 7668/09. Our association places the idea of cultural differences at the core of all its activities with a great emphasis on human rights. We believe in the essential value of cultural diversity and are convinced that intercultural understanding is a key condition for a more peaceful world. To this day, the IYDA regularly organizes events and training seminars on leadership and communication skills as well as international exchange programs in order to spread its ideas to as many societies and people as possible. By doing so, IYDA tries to sustain the concept of equal chances among youth, to promote the women's role and to enhance gender equality. Implementing exchange programs with Europe and the MEDA, we aim at improving the intercultural dialogue in order to strengthen the importance of human rights among the Egyptian community and throughout the world. Though we are partners with many well-known organizations in the field of international exchange, human rights and volunteerism, such as Experiment in International Living, we are always looking for potential partnerships and networking possibilities to enhance the understanding between Egypt and fellow nations from around the globe. Together we can contribute to the building of youth capacity on a global scale. IYDA is run by young people and its members are mainly working on a voluntary basis.the age allowed to participate in our activities ranges from 15 to 35 years but the majority of our members are in the age between Most members of IYDA are also actively involved in other aspects of social commitment and had the experience of representing their communities in local and international events. 3

Types of activities IYDA organizes sessions, trainings, workshops, camps, leadership seminars and exchange student programs in order to enhance the intercultural learning competences among the Egyptian Youth, trying to expand their knowledge of intercultural differences. Moreover, we are seeking new aspects regarding the freedom of expression and are encouraging discussions concerning important Arabic affairs as well as youth participation in a democratic reform. We value the understanding of diversity and promote a tolerant atmosphere where we acknowledge cultural and political differences. Longing for an intercultural dialogue with foreign countries, the IYDA stresses the ability of working together and teaching our youth to be increasingly aware of the four international affairs. Therefore IYDA works on achieving its objectives within the following fields: organization of training sessions, workshops and camps for the youth and their families The dialogue between the youth through visits among the fellow nations and the intercultural exchange programs as well technical Internships and trainings Providing youth with the intercultural communication skills in order to be more tolerant Organizing cultural development and human rights awareness campaigns Supporting the intra-cultural dialogue among the vast Egyptian community Promoting the inter-religious and faith to faith dialogue Enhancing the methodology of non-formal education and civic education facilities Developing the sense of belonging among the Egyptian youth by maintaining awareness programs, spreading the culture of peace 5
Encouraging democracy and assisting the youth to play an active role in their communities Promoting gender equality and youth participation Preparing young women for their responsibilities and encouraging them to take action in their societies Structure IYDA consists of a board of directors that has 7 members, who are elected to serve in the association for three consecutive years. They are responsible for the program creation for the youth and the strategic planning concerning IYDA's future. They are selected by the general assembly, which is held annually and is composed of all IYDA registered members and co-founders. Membership IYDA is always looking for fresh blood willing to volunteer in the organization s programs. Our members, along with developing leadership skills, are exposed to an international environment and they have an opportunity to attend local and international events. Members of the IYDA also have the chance to elect the board of directors on a three years basis. For the membership application please contact IYDA and we will foreword you all details concerning the membership and the application fees. Programs and activities Professional Trainings One of the main goals of the IYDA is to enhance the skills of the youth to be able to survive in an increasingly challenging world. This is why we organize training sessions using the most updated training methodologies. Soft trainings are focused on, but not limited to the following areas: - Intercultural Learning - Leadership Skills 6
- Active citizenship - Training of Trainers (TOT) - Communication - Advocating ideas and lobbying for certain purposes - Learn how to learn - Arabic Language courses for foreigners - Foreign Language courses for Egyptians - Life-motivation workshop International Youth Organization Partnerships IYDA administrates long term exchange programs for High School students throughout Egypt and is committed to prepare young people for their responsibilities and opportunities in a changing, interdependent world. Maintaining partnerships with governments, corporations, foundations, schools, and educators worldwide, the IYDA promotes international understanding and world peace while trying to create global learning opportunities. IYDA and their international counterparts have a long and successful track record. Many students and their host families have benefited from the exchanges. These people are joined by the belief that complete cultural immersion is the most effective means to acquire the skills needed to thrive in an increasingly multicultural, interconnected, and competitive society. IYDA is organizing these long term programs with one of the oldest youth exchange organizations in the world: "Experiment in International Living. " 7
Egyptian Swedish Dialogue for Active Citizenship The Intercultural Youth Dialogue Association (IYDA), in partnership with the Swedish Institute in Alexandria organized the peace building program for Active Citizenship Egyptian Swedish Dialogue for Active Citizenship, where Swedish and Egyptian participants had inspiring experiences, which united the different points of views. The first part of the program consisted of four days activities in Cairo and two days in Alexandria, where a mixture of activities were conducted. Part two took place in Sweden, mostly in Stockholm. The participants held workshops and visited cultural, political and religious places, which helped in promoting the intercultural understanding. The focus of the program was to achieve a cross cultural dialogue in order to promote peace and tolerance. Through discussions and workshops the participants learned about active citizenship and how to advocate peace in society, about identity, gender issues, consensus building and conflict resolution. Furthermore they got to know about how to establish and lead a movement, as well as about interreligious dialogue. Technical Internship programs An internship offers trainees the opportunity to apply knowledge and skills learned in the classroom and to gain experience related to a specific career. The aim is to assist interns in making the transition from school to work by providing hands-on, real world learning experiences and a practical application of the theory gained in university. Essentially, an Internship is the placement of an intern in a new work 8
situation on a temporary basis, for the purpose of developing the trainee s overall understanding and professional competence. It is an intensive, short term placement from which the trainee gains valuable work experience, information and new ideas on how to enhance his/her work performance by means of being exposed to another, usually more challenging working environment. The intention is that these new ideas will be adapted to the intern s work situation. The internship stimulates the interest and enthusiasm of an individual and prepares him/her to take up greater responsibilities. The internship is uniquely tailored to the needs of a particular intern and fully takes the professional or training needs of the candidate, as well as his or her particular learningcircumstances into account. The IYDA Internship program is specialized in the fields of architecture, constructions, management and business administration, art and design, mass media and many more. The traineeship lasts for one month, with the date of the program depending on the time of the university vacation. Hosting countries are mainly in Europe such as Italy, Portugal, Germany, Spain and France. Groups and individual applicants are invited to participate according to a certain criteria set by IYDA. Young People's voices for democracy & Justice Despite the decreasing interest in political participation shown by many young people all over the world, the youth in North Africa and the Middle East display a strong passion for the aforementioned. The youth demands the right to be part of the process of building a modern democratic society. Looking at the occurrences Egypt has witnessed in the past two years, one can see that the youth is much stronger and more determined than the world expected. We, thearabic youth must start attaining our own liberality and dignity. Thus, we are seeking new opportunities regarding the freedom of expression and are encouraging discussions concerning important Arabic affairs as well as youth participation in a democratic reform. We value the understanding of diversity and promote a tolerant atmosphere where we acknowledge cultural and political differences. With the programs "Young People's voices for democracy & Justice" we want to imply an intercultural dialogue with Sweden to teach our youth to be increasingly aware of the four international affairs. The European Voluntary Service The European Voluntary Service (EVS) provides young Europeans with the unique chance to express their personal commitment through unpaid and full-time voluntary 9
activities in a foreign country within or outside the EU. In this way, it seeks to develop solidarity, mutual understanding and tolerance among young people, thus reinforcing social cohesion in the European Union and promoting young people s active citizenship. Open to all young people from age 18 to 30, EVS is a true learning service. Beyond benefiting the local communities, by participating in voluntary activities young volunteers can develop new skills and thereby improve their personal, educational and professional development. We are proud to say that we hosted the first EVS volunteers to Egypt since the establishment of the program. Since August 2012 our team has been joined by five ambitious German volunteers, who will, for one year, be involved in the organization of activities with the local community (educational workshops, seminars, training courses), the implementation of exchange programs and even the writing of European and International proposals. Proof for the aspiring work the IYDA has done, we will be able to host four more Italian volunteers, starting in May We are glad to announce that we have also sent a member to the organisation ijgd in Magdeburg, Germany. He will get involved in social projects and will stay there for one year. Social Entrepreneurship The Project Social Entrepreneurship is about the issue of youth entrepreneurship and how to inspire and enhance it. Group of 5 people from IYDA in the beginning of May, went to Madrid, Spain, where they experimented with other young people with different cultural backgrounds, the ideation of several entrepreneurship projects, aligned in purpose with the people and 10 00

Renewable Energy Project 15 IYDA volunteers attended a really interesting seminar in Bonn, Germany, which was focused on environmental issues, especially the topic of renewable energies.
