Helping MSPs protect Data Center resources Due to shrinking IT staffing and budgets, many IT organizations are turning to Service Providers for hosting of business-critical systems and applications (i.e. web hosting, email hosting, and database hosting) as well as providing a secure remote facility for offsite data protection and disaster recovery. However, when a company elects to use a Service Provider instead of housing a server internally, the onus for the protection and availability of those services falls firmly on the Service Provider s head. A Service Provider may commit to certain availability SLA s that invoke penalties if not met and, as such, the servers in the data center will warrant varying degrees of protection. To this end Service Providers need a robust set of tools in order to comply with these varying requirements. In addition to SLAs, there are retention issues that a hosting provider needs to consider. For example, just because an end user has moved their email system from on-premise to the cloud does not mean that they don t still need to adhere to any legal, industry and internal retention period standards. A hosting provider needs to factor this into their service. However, many current platforms in the market were never designed to be used by a Service Provider. Taking just any solution and making a service out of it ignores the many design considerations that have to be taken into account. With CA arcserve Unified Data Protection, Service Providers benefit from a wide set of features for protecting virtual environments, including the ability to support cross hypervisor migrations. While virtual systems are pervasive, many hosted environments rely on physical servers, which are also supported by CA arcserve UDP. Also, with CA arcserve UDP, Service Providers can leverage disk and tape (for longer term retention) and replication for business continuity, including high availability. And you can also offer replication to a second data center for disaster recovery purposes. Technology is as critical as having the right partnership program in place. With CA arcserve s Managed Service Provider Program, an outsourcer benefits from a licensing model whereby software is billed on an as-used basis. This utility-based licensing model enables the Service Provider to optimize their costs in line with the services as they are needed. arcserve UDP datasheet 1

REMOTE SITE S APPLICATION RECOVERY POINT SERVER S WAN WAN OPTIMIZED REPLICATION WINDOWS OR LINUX RECOVERY POINT SERVER S DESTINATION S TAPE BACKUP WINDOWS WORKSTATIONS GLOBAL DEDUPE MSP/PRIVATE CLOUD arcserve UDP topology Fast backup Fast Recovery CA arcserve UDP is a powerful data protection solution that delivers block-level Infinite Incremental (I2 Technology ) and true global deduplication for fast and frequent backup to disk. Our technology not only speeds backup to help you meet your customers backup windows, it can significantly reduce backup storage requirements, the impact to the production server and the amount of data transmitted across the network. And since backups are stored on disk, data recovery can typically occur far faster than recovery from tape, delivering better recovery time objectives (RTOs) to help address demanding service level agreements (SLAs) in both Windows and Linux environments helping improve their productivity while reducing costs. Tape option for long terms storage Want migration of disk images to tape, with granular restore from disk or tape? We have it! In some customer environments, image-based backup may be preferred but tape support is required too. With CA arcserve s tape option, Service Providers can leverage tape devices and media for clients who demand tape support for long-term storage and compliance, and provide granular rehydration directly from tape. arcserve UDP datasheet 2

Cloud Integration CA arcserve UDP also has cloud integration built-in. In this case, hybrid-cloud data protection enables Service Providers to perform onsite image-based backup and then migrate and archive critical files and data offsite to Amazon Web Services (AWS/S3). If local storage is lost or unavailable, Service Providers can recover data directly from the cloud. Continuous data protection Some customer file servers and application or database servers may be considered mission critical where periodic backups or snapshots don t deliver the recovery point objectives (O) needed. These environments require continuous data protection and Service Providers should use CA arcserve UDP in those situations. This solution protects data on Windows and Linux systems and supports both physical and virtual server environments. Whether data is stored on DAS, NAS or SAN, you can offer your clients real-time data replication to another server/storage device whether located in the data center or any remote location and offer this as an additional data protection service and charge an additional fee. CA arcserve offers Service Providers remote, non-disruptive deployment along with centralized management and reporting. You also get automated, non-disruptive recovery testing that adds another level of protection and strong competitive differentiator. System Protection and Recovery Hosting Service Providers need more than just data protection; they need ways to achieve fast system recovery and even high availability depending on the SLAs to which they agree. CA arcserve UDP offers Service Providers three different solutions for system protection and recovery. Each solution is designed to meet specific RTOs and Os. This flexibility enables Service Providers to offer different service levels, each with their own value-based pricing. Bare Metal Recovery (BMR) CA arcserve UDP offers two key system recovery technologies. The first is hardware-independent Bare Metal Recovery (BMR). This solution copies image recovery points to removable media like a USB drive or DVD and after a system failure, this image is used to restore a complete physical server or virtual machine (VM), including operating system, application and data, to the same or dissimilar hardware. BMR can slash system recovery time by 80% over having to re-install a complete operating system and application from scratch. Virtual Standby The second is Virtual Standby, which offers a faster system recovery solution for which Service Providers can charge a premium fee. The virtual standby capability automatically converts periodic recovery points (from physical and virtual server backups) into VMware and Hyper-V virtual disk formats and installs and registers those virtual disks with the appropriate virtual server hypervisor. This solution includes system monitoring and offers both arcserve UDP datasheet 3

FAILOVER S VIRTUAL STANDBY PROXY RECOVERY POINT SERVER REPLICA GLOBAL DEDUPE LOCAL & REMOTE USERS Virtual Standby Near continuous system and data availability with High Availability For clients that require near continuous system and data availability for file, application and database servers, Service Providers can leverage CA arcserve s UDP High Availability options. This solution works with Windows, Linux servers, and select UNIX environments, and supports both physical and virtual server environments. The solution includes real-time system and application monitoring, automatic and push-button failover, and pushbutton failback after the production server is repaired or replaced. This solution delivers continuous protection and near-instantaneous failover, helping keep business going even after a system outage. This premier system recovery solution offers Service Providers a strong competitive advantage allowing them to command a higher service fee. arcserve UDP datasheet 4

AUTOMATED APPLICATION AWARE FAILOVER NETWORK REDIRECTION & FAILBACK SERVER HEARTBEAT MONITORING REMOTE SITE STANDBY LAN/WAN WAN OPTIMIZED REPLICATION FILES DATABASES APPLICATIONS WINDOWS, LINUX & UNIX ON PHYSICAL OR VIRTUAL LOCAL & REMOTE USERS USER TRANSPARENT FAIL OVER & FAIL BACK High Availability Cloud Integration CA arcserve UDP also includes integrated cloud support for Amazon Web Services (AWS/EC2). The process includes full system replication to the cloud where the image is kept offline until needed. The system performs system and application monitoring and can be configured for automatic or push-button failover. If a system or application fails, the last full system image replicated to the cloud is applied to a virtual machine and stood-up. End-users are automatically redirected and failover is near-instantaneous, keeping clients productive while data center resources are repaired or replaced. Licensing CA arcserve MSP Program allows Service Providers to use data protection technology as part of a service or to protect back-end systems that deliver a service (hosted services). It is a true pay as you go licensing model where the MSP pays only for software that is used the month after usage thus reducing risks and costs to the MSP. Summary CA arcserve technology provides the foundation for system and data protection, recovery and availability of your hosting services data center resources. It offers Hosting Service Providers depth and breadth of technologies and capabilities to offer a wide range of added-value services. These solutions include centralized deployment, management and reporting to help reduce support efforts and costs to help improve your profitability. CA arcserve provides unique solutions so you can gain a competitive advantage in the market while expanding your opportunities to address a diverse set of customer environments and needs.
