1. Effects of the Windows Firewall 1-1 1. Effects of the Windows Firewall The Windows firewall is software that checks information (communication) sent from the internet or network, and either blocks or allows that information to pass to a computer. DAQWORX and recorder related software have programs that perform communications that can be interfered with by the Windows firewall. If a program fails to run due to the Windows firewall, you can either disable the firewall or refer to this document to specify to "Allow a Program Through Windows Firewall." PC Firewall Internet/Network Confirm befor setting to Windows firewall If DAQWORX and recorder related software do not work, it may not be only due to the Windows firewall. Check the following before attempting to configure a Windows firewall. Check the internet connection status using the ping command. If the ping fails, check the cables, hub, IP address settings, and other factors to determine the cause. Check that procedures performed on the software are correct. If the problem cannot be solved after taking the above measures, it is likely that there will be problems with the firewall settings.

Click the System and Security. When using the Classic display, use the procedure below. 3. Click the Windows Firewall. The Windows Firewall Settings dialog box is displayed.

Click the tab of the profile appropriate for your operating environment. When the Firewall state is Off, click Cancel to exit. When the Firewall state is On, and Inbound connections or Outbound connections is Block, set the 2.3 Allow a Program Through Windows Firewall.

For Outbound Rules as well. 1. Click the Inbound Rules (or Outbound Rules). 2. Select the Program check box at Rule Type Steps. Click the Next.

2. Settings for the Windows Firewall 2-5 5. Specify the profiles for which this rule applies at Profile Steps. Click Next. 6. Specify the name of this rule at Name Steps, and click the Finish. 7. Set permissions for each program using the same steps.

All programs in your PC environment are not necessarily affected by the Windows firewall. If the problem is not solved even before checking the Windows firewall settings (see chapter 1, "Effects of the Window Firewall") and you suspect that the firewall is causing a malfunction, refer to the following to allow the program to pass the firewall.
