1 MaxSea TimeZero NN3D Radar Connection Checklist This TechNote only applies to MaxSea TimeZero Explorer. Description Follow this TechNote if you have any of these symptoms: - The Radar Tab (Radar WorkSpace) and Radar Buttons are not available - The Radar echo does not appear - The Status Bar displays External Demo Mode Resolution 1) If the Radar WorkSpace is not available because there is no Radar Tab a. Check MaxSea Configuration Make sure that MaxSea is correctly activated as MaxSea TimeZero Explorer. To double check, start MaxSea and click on the MaxSea Button then choose About. Ensure the product is MaxSea TimeZero Explorer. If MaxSea is activated as Navigator, the Unlock Code Module must be inserted to properly configure the program as the Explorer version.

2 Note: The Unlock Code can be entered by selecting Activate Module/Data from the MaxSea Menu. b. Check the computer minimum requirement In order for the Radar Tab (and Radar functions) to appear in MaxSea TimeZero Explorer, the PC must meet the TZ Explorer minimum requirements. Please refer to the MaxSea TimeZero Computer Requirement document. c. Check the computer IP and ping the NN3D Master Note: MaxSea TimeZero Explorer will ONLY display the Radar Tab (Radar WorkSpace) if a NavNet3D MFD is correctly detected when MaxSea is opened. If the computer is set up to acquire an automatic IP address, the NavNet3D MFD set as a Master needs to be turned ON before the computer is connected to the network (or before the computer is turned ON if the Ethernet cable stays connected to the computer at all times). If the computer is connected to the network or turned ON prior NavNet, the computer will not acquire a valid IP address and the Ethernet connection must be repaired manually. To repair the connection, right click on the Local Area Connection corresponding to the Ethernet card where the NN3D is connected to and choose Repair : 2

3 Note: Follow these steps to display the Network Adapter list on Windows VISTA or 7: - Click on the Windows Logo on the bottom left and select Control Panel. - Switch to Classic View to display the full list of options. - Open Network and Sharing Center ; and then, click Manage network connection under the Tasks menu on the left side of the window to see the Local Area connection. Right click on the Local Area Connection corresponding to the Ethernet card where the NN3D is connected to and choose Repair. RECOMMENDATION: If the computer stays on the boat all the time (fixed boat computer installation), it is recommended to setup a fix IP address ( / ). This will avoid any problem if the computer is turned ON before the NN3D Master. For a computer that is moved in/off the boat (such as a Laptop), it is recommended to leave the Automatic IP setup in order for the laptop to connect to other Ethernet Network (Home or Office Network) automatically. IMPORTANT NOTE: The NavNet3D DHCP server will not work with some Ethernet Card under Windows 7 (under investigation). In this case, you will have to assign manually a fix IP address to the computer. 3

4 Check the IP address: To check if the computer has a valid IP address, use the IPCONFIG command. Click on Start ; and then, choose Run. Type cmd and click on OK. Note: Under VISTA, click on Start and search for cmd to open the Command Editor: Type ipconfig in the command editor. The 'ipconfig' tool shows a computer's TCP/IP configuration. It displays the IP address, the network subnet mask and the Internet/network gateway address if one is set for that network. 4

5 C:\>ipconfig Windows IP Configuration Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection 2: Connection-specific DNS Suffix : IP Address : Subnet Mask : Default Gateway : C:\> Ensure the IP is compatible with the Navnet network ( X.X / ) Make sure also that the subnet Mask is Ping the NN3D Master MFD: To check the connection between the computer and the Master, ping the NN3D MFD set as Master. Type in the command editor ping If the result is Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss), the communication with the Master is OK. If the result is Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 0, Lost = 4 (100% loss) or if any error is returned, there is a problem with either the IP configuration or the cable. Ensure the IP address is correctly set-up and the correct cable is plugged into the network interface. If the computer is connected to a Hub, ensure that the green light is on and blinking on the corresponding Ethernet cable. 2) If the Radar Tab appears without radar echo or if External Demo appears in the Status Bar First, check that the Radar is transmitting and there is a good radar picture showing on the NavNet3D MFD. Disable Firewall Under Windows XP: Open the Control Panel and choose Network Connection. Double click on the local area connection that corresponds to the Ethernet port that is connected to the NavNet 3D network. 5

6 Select the Advanced Tab ; and then, click on Settings. Choose the Off checkbox. Under Windows VISTA: Open the control Panel and select Windows Firewall. Note: If Windows Firewall does not appear in the list, ensure that Classic View is selected on the left. 6

7 Click on Turn Windows Firewall ON or OFF on the left side of the window. Select OFF ; and then, click on Apply. Note: If another Firewall (Norton, for example), please refer to the manufacturers documentation for the procedure to turn it off. IMPORTANT NOTE: Instead of turning OFF the Firewall, you can add MaxSea to the list of program that pass through the firewall. Some anti-virus or spyware software can also prevent the Radar Echo packet from reaching the computer. It is recommended to temporarily turn OFF any anti-virus program to ascertain if this solves the problem. 7
