TRANSPORT AND MINING Every industry in Australia depends on transport and mining to some degree. From the everyday family people-mover and the fleets of large businesses to the heavy machinery of the mining and agriculture sectors, the mining and automotive industries are vital to the Australian economy. Whether you want to work in mining, auto body repair and painting or work in the maintenance and repair of heavy machinery, we have a course for you and your passion. The Transport and Mining career area offers a wide range of industry recognised programs that allow you to specialise in the following fields: Mining Automotive TRENT SCHUMI, CERTIFICATE III IN MOBILE PLANT TECHNOLOGY Not one to forgo an opportunity, Trent holds qualifications in three separate trades after most recently completing the in Mobile Plant Technology at Kurri Kurri campus. The father of two started his mechanical career in 2006 as a marine craft construction apprentice and qualified as shipwright in 2008. In 2014, Trent was named as Komatsu s inaugural National Apprentice of the Year and has placed first at each stage of his apprenticeship at Hunter TAFE. AUTO TRADES SCHOOL MINING SKILLS CENTRE If you live, sleep and breathe cars our Auto Trade School has all the latest technology and equipment to help you get a nationally recognised qualification and the skills for an exciting career in Australia s automotive industry. Hunter TAFE s Auto Trades Schools are situated in three locations at our Glendale, Muswellbrook and Wyong campuses. The Auto Trades Schools offer a unique hands-on training facility with nationally recognised qualifications in all light automotive trades including diesel mechanics, motorcycles, panel beating, vehicle painting and vehicle body building and more. Hunter TAFE s Muswellbrook campus is home to the Mining Skills Centre, a unique facility purpose built to deliver practical experience and a thorough understanding of the mining industry to students. Hunter TAFE s partnerships with the region s major mining organisations are a key feature in our intensive training program. Through these strong relationships we have specially designed courses that deliver the skills and knowledge required by the local industry. This facility is utilised in four trade areas, machining, electrical, metal fabrication, and automotive. As well as learning technical skills, Mining Skills apprentices also receive training in financial awareness, health and nutrition, personal fitness, communication skills and road safety awareness. PLANT, HEAVY VEHICLE AND AUTO ELECTRICAL TRAINING CENTRE Hunter TAFE s purpose built Plant, Heavy Vehicle and Auto Electrical Training Centre is located at the Kurri Kurri Campus, with close proximity to the Hunter Valley, many of Australia s large mining companies and just 30 kilometres from Newcastle Airport. The newly upgraded facility features state-of-the-art training workshops and the latest testing, diagnostic equipment and machinery. The facility has been designed in collaboration with industry to replicate the modern workplace, setting the benchmark for plant, heavy vehicle and auto electrical training facilities in the country. You will study in a modern learning environment with new classrooms and learning laboratories and work on late model cars, trucks, tractors, machinery, and plant equipment. Experienced teachers, who are specialists in their field, will guide you through Hunter TAFE s industry recognised programs. Their strong links with some of the largest employers and organisations in industry will provide the assurance you are gaining the right skills and knowledge to set you up for a successful career ahead.
